YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND THE
ANCILLARY TEXTS?
2. SYNOPSIS
• Our film follows the main character (Ross) going through a troubled time in his life
as he finds out that his girlfriend had cheated on him with his boss, who he cannot
stand. After finding out this information Ross decides that he is going to attempt
suicide before a passing psychiatrist stops him before he achieves it and helps him
plan to get revenge on his boss.
4. In our poster we included the main conventions that we found almost all
movie posters have from research into different posters, such as a main
image, usually with the protagonist in the centre, the Title so that the
audience would know what film the poster is advertising, release date so that
the audience knows when the film is coming out, a rating to persuade the
audience that they should go and watch the film and a social media link so
that the audience can communicate with others about what they think of the
film form the advertisement.
We also included a web address so that people would be able to find out
more information about the film and we included a billing block to give extra
information about who made the film. An age certificate was included so that
people knew if they would be able to watch the film.
5. POSTER INSPIRATION
With posters being the easiest way to promote a film due to there not being
any need for technology we decided that we needed to make the poster
have all of the necessary information about the film. We chose that our main
image would be of the three main characters ( Ross, Hooper and Dr Parkes)
with Ross sat at his desk, Hooper stood behind ross in a higher positioning
in the image to show that he has a higher rank than him, and Dr Parkes
stood outside looking in on them to connote that he has a different
perspective on the situation.
Due to the proliferation of the internet, particularly social media we decided
that we would include a hashtag of “YouBetcha” the tagline of our film to
allow the audience to use social media to further promote our film.
6. RADIO TRAILER
Through research into various radio trailers we discovered that every radio trailer
contains the same features:
• Voice over – to provide information about the films release
• Quotes from the film
• Music from the film
• Sound effects from the film

• To ensure that we created successful ancillary texts, such as a radio advert and film
poster, we carried out research of real media texts to find out what conventions
made a text successful. From this research we set out a plan of what we needed to
include in our ancillary texts to successfully advertise our film.
• We used synergy to ensure that the story and genre of the film were portrayed in
both our poster and radio advert, which was effective in promoting our film.
