1. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
What did my intended audience think of the magazine and how well suited to them was it?
2. COLLECTING INFORMATION
I asked three rock music fans to evaluate my magazine by pointing out
what they liked and disliked about it, inclusing some constructive
criticisms and compliments. This will determine how appropriate the
magazine is for its intended audience.
Two of the fans were female and one was male, each person was a
different age ranging from 15 to 19, as this is the age of the majority of
the audience, and the gender ratio was 3:2, which was why I included
more females in the evaluation.
3. PERSON ONE
“I like the masthead, I think it stands out quite nicely
and it suits the genre too.”
“It’s good that there’s a list of bands along the side
because it lets you know who’s going to be in it. There could
be a few more though.”
“I think the main picture looks good. It’s quite
conventional as well, since most rock magazines have pretty
simple pictures on the front.”
“The yellow could be tied in with the colour scheme a
bit more.”
Overall rating: 7/10
4. PERSON ONE
“The design of this is quite simplistic which
I like, especially for the rock genre.”
“Having more than one picture was a nice
touch, the second one could be made bigger
though.”
“The article is interesting, and I think it
shows the musicians in a positive light which
would obviously please their fan base.”
“A background might be useful though. Just
so it seems a little less empty.”
Overall Rating: 7/10
5. PERSON ONE
“I think this is an effective contents page. It’s easy to
navigate and the pictures make it seem more illustrative,
which is nice”
“I like the colour scheme, the dark colours suit the
genre.”
“The editor’s comment makes it more personal, which
I like.”
“The numbers on the pictures could maybe be a bit
more noticeable.”
Overall Rating: 9/10
6. PERSON ONE
Is the magazine something you’d be interested in reading? Why?
“Yes, the article seems interesting and there was a good range of bands.”
What would you change if you could?
“Only small things, like spacing or maybe some of the colours here and
there but nothing major. I liked the writing itself though”
Do you think the magazine is suited to its audience?
“Definitely! Yeah it’s quite similar to the ones I’ve read before.”
7. PERSON TWO
“The choice of fonts is good, it’s simialar to the ones
they use in the more popular rock magazines I’ve read.”
“The colour scheme is interesting, the yellow stands
out well for the flashes and stuff but maybe there should
be some more blue so it blends in better.”
“The pictures at the side could maybe be a bit bigger
but I like that they’re there, it helps distinguish the bands
that have main features about them from the others who
won’t feature as much.”
Overall Rating: 7/10
8. PERSON TWO
“I like the title, it stands out from the rest
really well.”
“The pull quotes are really noticeable,
too.”
“I think that if the background was
different it’s look a bit more full, I like that
there’s some empty space but there might be
a bit too much, like between the two people
for example.
Overall Rating: 8/10
9. PERSON TWO
“I like the columns, having them on a white background
makes it stand out a lot more.”
“It could do with having one main picture, but I like
that there are a few because it shows you who’s doing to
be in the magazine before you even read any of it.
“It’s look a little bit better if the editor was cut out
rather than having a frame around the picture. The fact
that it’s there is good though.”
Overall rating: 8/10
10. PERSON TWO
Is the magazine something you’d be interested in reading? Why?
“Yeah, if there were bands in it that I was interested in I’d be happy to read it.
What would you change if you could?
“Small things, like the layout of some of the pictures maybe, or the text size
on the front page . I’d leave the writing though.”
Do you think the magazine is suited to its audience?
“Yeah, the colours and stuff make it seem right, it definitely seems like a rock
magazine and it’s not too mature either so it’s suited to a teenage audience.”
11. PERSON THREE
“I like the read and the black for the colours, but the
yellow looks a bit out of place. Maybe if it was more spaced
out rather than all on the left it would look a bit better. It’s
not a major problem though.
“I like the black around the headline, it’s a lot better than
just a plain outline, it makes it look more attractive.”
“I like the style of the main picture, it’s pretty simple but
it suits the genre. It might look better slightly bigger though.
Overall Rating: 7/10
12. PERSON THREE
“I like how the article is written, it seems quite positive
and shows the personality of the band, which is what I
think makes interviews most interesting.”
“I like the pictures, because one is quite serious and
the other one is more light-hearted. It’s a nice contrast.
The main one could be a tad bigger to take up some of the
white though.”
The title is good since it’s really obvious, and I like
how different parts of the article are in different colours,
it’s a nice touch.”
Overall Rating: 8/10
13. PERON THREE
“I like this page best, it’s well organised and
the colours are well suited to the genre because
they’re quite dark.”
“I think it might look better with a couple
more pictures at the top, just to show more
people who’re in the magazine.”
“The editor’s message is good, it makes it
seem more authentic.”
Overall Rating: 9/10
14. PERSON THREE
Is the magazine something you’d be interested in reading? Why?
“Yes, judging from the main article it would be an interesting read.”
What would you change if you could?
“I’d make the pictures bigger and add a bit more yellow on the front page.
Other than that I really like it.”
Do you think the magazine is suited to its audience?
“Yes, the colours and photography are pretty typical of the genre so yes.”
