Emphasis is defined as an area or
object within the artwork that draws
attention and becomes a focal point.
With the use of color and background,
the photographer is able to make the
white bulb stand out against the solid
red room, therefore emphasizing the
bulb.
3. Hines use emphasis by
photographing the man
at the center of the
image, making the man
the dominant figure in
the photo. Also, the
background in the photo
is either black or grey,
whereas the bag the
man is holding is white,
which adds emphasis
to the bag.

4. Steve Fine
'60s Revisited
Steve fine used emphasis in
this photo by creating the
piece of paper as the focal
point. Though it is smaller
than its surroundings, it is one
of the few points in the photo
that is not blurred. Another
aspect of the picture that
draws focus to the paper is
the mans eyes. They are
directed at the paper causing
our eyes to do the same.

Emphasis in photography is the area,
subject or object that first attracts attention
in the photo.
With the use of color and black and white
it allows the boy to stand out and it makes
him as if he is “popping out of the
“picture.” That expresses the element of
emphasizing

By blurring the background, it make
the tennis ball, which is at a closer
angle, stand out with a more
sharper image that lets you focus
on it. Also, the neon green puts
more emphasis on the tennis ball
because it is brighter and more
vibrant than the rest of the picture.

In my photo, the main focus
is the hand playing the
instrument. This is because
the background is almost
completely black and the
hand is the brightest part of
the picture. Also, the
instrument in the picture is
naturally a dark color so it
does not draw attention
from the hand playing it.
