2. Learning Objectives
I will be able to…
• Understand what a service model is
• Identify a variety of service models
• Create a wall demonstrating what I have learnt
so far
3. What is a service model?
Cloud computing can come in many forms
which is dependant on the type of service it
will provide. Therefore they are specifically
named relating to what they achieve.
There are 3 different service models…
SaaS
PaaS
IaaS
4. SaaS – Software as a Service
Software as a service, otherwise known as
‘SaaS’ provides a software through the use of
the internet. The software has been developed
and maintained by the designer, therefore they
user cannot have access to control it.
5. PaaS – Platform as a Service
Platform as a service otherwise known as ‘PaaS’
gives a platform for the building and hosting of
the application. Therefore this is implementing
cloud infrastructure.
6. IaaS – Infrastructure as a
Service
Infrastructure as a service, otherwise known as
‘IaaS’ represents the combination of the
computer and cloud storage. This takes into
account power, cooling and networking.
Therefore what does the application need to
work?
7. Task 1
You are going to evaluate and discuss what you have
learnt so far within the module, using padlet!
Using the link on Moodle under session 2, you are to
create your own wall.
Simply open the web page and click on build a wall –
the rest is self explanatory!
If you need any guidance on using padlet refer to the
help document in the session 2 resource folder.
8. Task 2
You are to upload your wall onto Moodle under the
session 2 forum.
Once you have submitted your work, review your peers
that they have also submitted.
Consider the following:
• The use of colour and style?
• Is it clear and readable?
• Can see that they have made progress and learnt
something from the module so far?
9. Well Done!
You have completed session 2…
You have in this session achieved the following:
Gained a clear understanding of what a service model is
Identified different types of service models
Discussed what each service model does
Created your own wall exploring what you have learnt so far
Uploaded it to Moodle and peer assessed your peers work.
That’s a sure lot…well done and keep you the hard work!!!
