Racism In The Sports Industry
1. Racism in the Sports Industry
Living in 2014, we would like to believe that we have made great strides to eliminate racism within
the United States. Through history we are able to see how ugly our nation was as it judged people by
the color of their skin and in extreme cases killed them for it. Through law, we have been able to
advance from such an ugly time, but yet we still see racism show its ugly head quite often. A great
way to see such a transition is through sport. Sports have been around through segregation and very
dark moments of racism in the United States. Sports have played an important role in the
advancement of the Civil Rights Movement and have been our nation's largest source of pastime and
entertainment. Because of the exposure of sports through media and events for its viewers, sports
have a large influence on our children and us. Today we see racism with sport as it seems that it has
come to full circle with our history.
The presence of racial minority professional athletes in the United States has long been an
interesting dynamic of American social culture. Our group's project sought to dissect examples of
the interaction between the American mass media and its depiction/characterization of minority
athletes. Although a plethora of established and peer–reviewed research exists in myriad of
disciplines spanning communication to sociological theory covering this phenomenon, for the scope
of this project, the authors decided to focus on anecdotal conveyances to offer the reader

3. Intermittent Fasting Essay
A major part of Intermittent Fasting is eating. Yes, that sounds self–explanatory, doesn't it? Let me
explain. Eat– ing is very important in our day–to–day lives and we must consider what we consume
very carefully. With Inter– mittent Fasting, you can consume higher calorie foods like that six–dollar
burger from Carl's Jr or that pasta from Olive Garden without worrying too much about excessive
fat gain, but you do have to ensure that your body gets its proper nutrients. Even though you are
using Intermittent Fasting for some flexible dieting, lower calorie foods with a high nutrition profile
will help you feel full longer. It is that fiber that fills your stomach! And well, fiber also gets your
system moving, if you know what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If your body does not perform well starved, do not work out fast– ed! It works for some but not all.
If you do train fasted, though, you should make sure to eat a proper meal sometime after you train.
Make sure that your meal is balanced so you have protein or muscle repair and carbohydrates for
energy. While I do not truly believe that your muscles can be– come "catabolic," it is important to
eat to restore your en– ergy. I hate when I feel completely fatigued the rest of the day after working
out! I did state earlier that I do train early mornings before work, but still continue to fast after. I
have not noticed a large amount of muscle loss at all unless my intake decreases drastically. I prefer
to work out in the mornings because the gym is less crowded, I can just get my work– out out of the
way and go on with my life. Also, statistics show that if you schedule your workouts in the morning,
you will most likely perform them compared to if your workouts are in the evenings, which, through
experience, I can attest to. Anyway, I fast until later in the day to prevent myself from binge eating.
Training fasted also makes my cardio sessions easier since there is nothing to hinder me

5. Primetime TV Censorship
Radio and Primetime TV Censorship
Media Censorship vs. Non Media Censorship, Censorship and Non Censorship is about what
information the public will have access too. What is "Censorship"? (Restriction, suppression, control
cutting, editing, bowdlerization, and expurgation) basically it is the lack of freedom to do or say
what you choose to express about a particular topic of interest. The Media is censored by the
government, our Laws and supposedly by ordinary people but they have limited access or power.
What does the word "Media" mean? ( Broadcast, spread, proliferation, circulation, transmission) My
position on this topic is that I believe it is necessary to have Media Censorship.

This is one example where the media should not but can sway the public opinion to trust a candidate
by not sharing pertinent information about that candidate's character. Media was use to help
Mussolini, Hitler and a few others gain control. There is good media where censorship is not
necessary. Shows and media that the purpose is to educate, Some shows that are geared toward
children like Walt Disney Classics, Cooking Shows, Health and Welfare TV. The media does have
ratings to help gauge the content, this is not always effective but it is better than nothing. Censorship

9. Howard Stern Essay
.
Howard Stern has been labeled as many things, such as offensive, obnoxious, discussing
and by the majority of his listeners a genius. He grew up in a suburb of Manhattan in the early
sixties. His father, Ben Stern, worked at radio station WHOM where the was the engineer. His
father commuted every day about 40 miles to and from work. Howard would spend little time
with his father but on occasion he would get to go to work with him. This is what interested
Howard to being on the radio.
At the time, the area Howard lived in was going through a racist change. His mother told
his friends who were making racist comments about the negros that she and Howard ... Show more

Fred ended up in the same bubble bath. Brittany needed her shoulders rubbed while she was
relieving stress in the tub. Alison found his wet underwear under the car seat the next day. He
thought he was safe until she revealed this to him while eating lunch the next day.
On April 21, 1980 Howard started work at a Detroit radio station, WWWW. He was the
morning man. He presented a morning show that Detroit never experienced before. He did it his
way. The manager told him he talked too much but he continued to talk "too much". After all

15. Essay on Freedom of Speech
Our forefathers worked to ensure we could enjoy civil liberties that they were unable to under
British rule. In the First Amendments one of the liberties detailed is freedom of speech, specifically
in that Congress will not enact a law that is "abridging the freedom of speech." In 1925 the Supreme
Court ruled that the First Amendment applies to each state ensuring that the constitutional right to
free speech is protected from interference by the government. Freedom of speech can only be upheld
so long as the content of which does not violate the law. In 2002 a high school senior, Joseph
Frederick, revealed a banner for the Olympic Torch Relay while it was in town on it's journey to the
winter games. The banner read "Bong Hits 4 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was because the banner's pro–drug message contradicts the school district's own drug policy. It's
easier to agree with censorship when it's to hinder a message encouraging illegal behavior, but what
about legal behaviors? Religion in school has been a legal issue since 1948 in the McCollum v.
Board of Education case in which a nonreligious student was punished and singled out during a
religious instruction. Why does the First Amendment state "Congress shall make no law respecting
an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" and yet student–led prayers at
school functions are banned by court order in the Santa Fe Independent School District? Annie
Laurie Gaylor wrote, "It is dishonest to call any prayer 'voluntary' that is encouraged or required by
a public official or legislature. By definition, if the government suggests that students pray, whether
by penning the prayer, asking them to vote whether to pray, or setting aside time to pray, it is
endorsing and promoting that prayer" (Gaylor 680). A government that endorses the religious
activities of one religion over another aids in the segregation of the student body and opens the door
to discrimination, much like in 1948. Freedom of speech isn't exactly perfect. If allowing prayer in
school leads to discrimination, then what does vulgar language lead to if our media is saturated with
it? In

17. Limitations that Freedom of Speech Should Have Essay
Freedom of speech should have some limitations. The American people should have the right to say
whatever they want, but to an extent. Whether it is on signs or verbally some things should not be
expressed. The United States is well known for being "the home of the free," but some people take
their freedom a bit too far. People can burn flags, protest at military funerals, even use the "n" word
and watching pornography in libraries. To start off, our country has come so far since September
11th, but right after caused a state of confusion with the entire nation. While it has only been 12
years since it has happened, it had caused my husband's family to move away from their home in
Oak Lawn. During that whole week after there was a bunch ... Show more content on

Every day there are new threats, and it is hard to tell which ones are real and which ones are not.
One of the most certain things is, when people are in a fragile state do not make anti–American
remarks. If someone hates the United States, he or she can leave and move to some other country.
Every person has a right to his or her own opinion but to bash on a country that gave you such
liberty is a disgrace. There will always be a window where people can say whatever they want and
most people will not get offended. There are also times where comments are so inappropriate, that
they should never be said, and that is how making anti–American comments and burning of the flag
is never appropriate while on US soil. Next, when a soldier dies, a family has to prepare a funeral
and all that goes into laying his or her daughter for an eternal rest. Sadly, military funerals are one of
the more common targets that Westboro Baptist Church protests. Members of the Westboro church
can hold up signs at military funerals that say, "Don't Pray for the USA," and "America is Doomed"
(Biskupic Protest). One of the funerals that the Westboro Church protested at was Matthew Snyder's.
Matthew was 20 when he died. Matthew's father Albert states that, "A man who dies for his country,
for peace, should not have a father who has to fight to bury him in peace" (Biskupic). When any

19. How Does Rap Music Cause Racism
Title "There will never be an N word at SAE" these are the words that were chanted by a frat group
on a bus earlier this year. After hearing these racist words many were quick to point the finger and
blame it on hip hop. For years this particular genre of music has been the target for the numerous
acts of violence, and racism throughout the country. Could the explicit rap lyrics that describes
living in low income housing, poverty stricken neighborhoods, and violent communities really
promote such vicious acts? Or are their lyrics a form of art that is simply expressing the eerie
lifestyle many of them have lived before success? Although many believe hip hop is to blame for the
racism and violence in our country, the real source that should be held accountable are the media
and corporate executives of record labels.. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, many American's knowledge of this is void due to mainstream media's incompetence of
not promoting social issues. Companies like Black Entertainment Television (BET), and radio
stations that promote themselves as the biggest brands in hip hop fail to mention the positive
characteristics because they don't have America's youth best interest at heart. Their primary focus is
to spend a ton of time marketing, advertising, selling product, and then pushing it to the consumers
to buy their merchandise. Due to the media only promoting the negative aspects of hip hop, it is up

21. The Debate of Censorship
The United States Bill of Rights guarantees its citizens the freedom of expression, but how far does
that freedom extend? Does the right to express yourself include the right to observe the expressions
of others? According to pro–censorship view holders, it does not. But to those who feel strongly
against censorship, the freedom of information, or the "right to know," should be an absolute right
granted to the American public. Censoring material is the responsibility of the individual, not the
institution itself, and certainly not the job of a separate institution. Also, the definition of what is
censor–worthy is by no means clear. Exercising the freedom of speech has two sides: the speaker
and the listener. Censorship is unfair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some places, censored material printed in periodicals is simply marked over with a black line, but
in America we sometimes do not know that information is being withheld (Thom). This practice of
censored censorship is unethical and unconstitutional. If we don't know what is being censored, can't
we at least know that something is being censored? The FCC (Federal Communications
Commission) has certain standards for material to be considered as profane, indecent, or obscene
("Obscene, Indecent"). Unfortunately, not everything can be fit into these cookie cutter categories,
and sometimes an object of controversy overlaps into two or more of these classifications. These
requirements are tested against what is considered to be an "average person," but who is this
mythical, completely normal individual who decides what is offensive and what is acceptable
("Obscene, Indecent")? Most of the time, the parameters for censorship are not compared to the
views of John Doe, but to an impressionable child. In fact, the FCC only prohibits "profane" and
"indecent" broadcasts between the hours of 6a.m. and 10p.m., when a child is less likely to be
listening ("Obscene, Indecent"). The FCC also upholds double standards. In recent years, popular
"shock jock" Howard Stern was removed from six stations that previously broadcast his show
because of his sexual references that

28. What Do Cigarettes And Baby Shampoo Have?
What do cigarettes and baby shampoo have in common? They both contain carcinogenic chemicals.
Unbeknownst to most of us, personal care and beauty products contain a host of disruptive
chemicals that can potentially cause cancer, infertility, neurological conditions and other harmful
physiological issues (Bray, 2013). We often scold smokers for puffing on "cancer sticks" generally
classifying them as people with little regard for their well being but, what about all of us who
routinely use products to maintain our appearance and hygiene? We're mindlessly exposing ourself
to harm, too. Think about your morning routine and what it consists of. Typically, you will shampoo

The worst part about that finding is the fact that manufacturers are allowed to put whatever
chemicals they desire in these products because of legislative loopholes. These days, we're a lot
more conscious of what we ingest but, we tend to put little emphasis in deciphering the items we
apply on the surface. The skin is our largest organ that absorbs a substantial amount the items we put
on it. If you care about the harmful ingredients lurking in your food, you should care about those
hiding in your most frequently used personal care products, too. I'm not here to convince you to stop
showering or applying deodorant, that would be absolutely foul but, I'm urging you to be more
mindful about the products you use on your body strictly because there isn 't an agency out their
assuring their safety, and they've been linked various health issues. According to
consumerreports.org, "Americans are expected to spend more than $70 billion this year on shampoo,
baby lotion, mascara, and countless other products" (2014). That comes as no surprise considering
that most of us use personal care products everyday and have been using them for decades upon
decades. What comes as the real shocker is the fact that there isn't an entity that is in charge of
reviewing these products for consumer safety. The current law governing the personal care industry
dates all the way back to 1938. Just think about how much has changed in the world of cosmetics
