1. Casting Document
Reason for Casting: I chose Sophie for
my video because she is a white female
homosexual which is not astereotypical
lead character role in any media text.
My aim for the video is to subvert
stereotypes, so Sophie is a perfect fit
for the role. With her short, dyed hair
and unusual jewelry, Sophie represents
a more ‘masculine’ identity, which is a
conventional personality trait for a
mainstream pop video. By choosing
Sophie in the casting stages, I have
ensured that she is within the age
bracket for my target audience (16-25),
so that the audience can personally
identify with her when she faces
obstacles and overcomes barriers in the
visual element of the music video. I
have also made Sophie the artist of the
video since she is the main actor and
hold the lead narrative in the video.
Although she is on the younger end of
the age bracket, lots of new and up
coming artists that make it in the
industry often start their music career
from a young age, and Sophie has an
amiable niche which I think people
would come to like very much.

2. Casting Document
Reason for Casting: I decided to cast
Tia in my music video since she comes
from an Asian background. When
Asian individuals are represented in
the media it is often as a minor role.
They are frequently used to flaunt the
pathologized stereotype that they are
all naturally clever and hardworking. I
have therefore taken on the simple
challengeto rid her of this stereotype.
To do this I have represented her as a
somewhat ‘normal’ individual who is
not afraid to state that she is smart
due to her continual hard work,
rather than give into stereotypes and
feel depreciated as it is seen as an
expected norm for an Asian girl to be
academically gifted. Tia is also within
the target audience bracket so will
again act as a character the viewers
can possibly identify themselves with
on a personal level.
