1. A. My second grade class is made up of 24 students; 10 boys and 14 girls. There is an
almost equal amount of black and white students. All of the students come from lower SES
backgrounds and most read below grade level. Being that the students are younger, they will
learn better through movement and participation. Before the lesson, students will participate
in a review of the different place values between the ones place and the millions place.
S. My second grade students will learn the place values of the following: ones, tens,
hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions with 90% accuracy by
the end of the day due to the use of YouTube videos, a podcast, a poster and picture that depict
place value, and Facebook and Twitter; students will be assessed through observation and
participation.
S. The lesson will begin with thestudents watching and participating along with three
videos: The first is a YouTube video, a song about place value for the students to sing-along to,
the second is my storytelling video about place value, and the third video is my podcast about
place value. The song will allow the students to sing and dance, the storytelling video will give
the students a chance to listen to instruction and watch a demonstration of place value, and
the podcast will encourage the students to participate by writing the place values. Next, the
students will be shown a place value poster made in PowerPoint and a picture made in
Photoshop that shows place value. As homework, students will be assigned to join and review
the material on the Facebook class page and watch my Twitter for information that they might
need.
U. This is a primarily teacher centered lesson because the teacher will be directing the
education. However, students will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss what each task
means.
R. Students will be required to participate in the YouTube song about place value by
singing along and dancing to it, they will be required to watch the digital storytelling video
about place value, and they will be required to participate along with the podcast. Students will
be expected to pay attention to and discuss the poster and picture about place value, and will
be required to join the class Facebook page and participate in a class discussion about the
information offered as well as encouraged to follow the teacher’s tweets on Twitter.
E. This lesson plan might be a little difficult for second graders to follow, but with extra
help they should be able to complete the lesson. The Facebook and Twitter homework may
best be completed with the help of a parent since the students are so young.
