1. A. My second grade class is made up of 24 students; 10 boys and 14 girls. There is an
almost equal amount of black and white students. All of the students come from lower SES
backgrounds and most read below grade level. Being that the students are younger, they will
learn better through movement and participation. Before the lesson, students will participate
in a review of the different place values between the ones place and the millions place.
S. My second grade students will learn the place values of the following: ones, tens,
hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions with 90% accuracy by
the end of the day with the use ofa blog and a Voki; assessments will be given on participation
in class discussion and completion of the assignment.
S. The students will create a blog where they discuss what they have learned about
place value and add any questions that still remain about place value. The teacher will post a
blog with one specific question that students must answer along with their other information.
Students will also create a Voki programmed to tell the class what the student knows about
place value and its importance. The class will have a discussion about the blogs and present
each student’s Voki to the class.
U. This is a primarily student-centered lesson. Students will be given the freedom to
discuss whatever they deem to be important information about place value after answering the
assigned question. The students will have the freedom to program their Voki however they
choose.
R. Students will be required to write a blog that at least answers the teacher’s assigned
question and participate in the class discussion. They will also be required to create and share
their Voki with the class.
E. This assignment could be difficult for students with lower grade-level reading and
writing skills, and might require a lot of help from the teacher.
