4) In terms of clothing, which conventions
should rappers predominantly wear?
For this response,I got an array of different
interpretations and ideas from my target audience,
which enabled me to ascertain whatlook I should aim
to attain for my magazine’s front cover, contents page
and double-page spread.SinceI have to have a
minimum of six photographs in my magazine, I can use
the variety of different looks that my target audience
prefers, which is why I let this question be an open one,
so I could garner enough ideas to create different
looks. Some of the examples that were given to me
followed the standard conventions of the genre, such
as:baggy clothingand comfortable clothing (in the
picture of Drake for my third question, he is seen
dawning this sort of clothing), a few people
emphasised in the use of caps and beanies to make the
rappers look more ‘ghetto’ and to emphasiseon them
being ‘laid back’.There was a wide amount of answers
that involved clothingthat is expensiveand even used
a variety of brands to explain whatthey wanted, such
as a grey suitfrom Raymond’s and a Louis-Vuitton tie
etc. which they sawas a vastconnotation of the rap
genre and see that rap has integrated into more of a
cultureabout wealth then about injustice.

6) Which style of font do you think can
portray the genre of rap explicitly? (E.g.
Specific font? Graffiti?).
There were only a few people who mentioned specific
font. One person mentioned that I could use “Arial
Black”for my headings and text becauseit connotes
the strength of a rapper’s songs and there strength
againstthe likes of injusticeand italso shows the
boldness of the rappingindustry.Another person said
to usecopperplate in relation to the design of my
magazine and stated that ‘it would look nice on the
front cover’. The majority of the people who answered
the questionnaire, however, were more in favour of a
font that coincided with the rap genre. They said I
should consider usinggraffiti fonts or ‘old school’
graffiti fonts for the titles and the mastheads of my
magazine, as itwould feature standard rap conventions
in my magazine and itwill even aid towards emblazing
the design of the magazine.

9) What would you prefer tosee as the
basis of my article for my double-page
spread (E.g. interview)?
The majorityof the audience predominantlychose the
interview option, as theywantedto explore the characters
of mymagazine that I have created. Thoughthis essentially
contradicts myinitial idea about having a feudbetweento
rappers andwritinganarticle about an event that sparked
their battle, I am willing to integrated this intomyideafor
the double-spread. I couldperhaps make both characters
answer similar questions that I create andI can show the
traits and personalityof eachcharacter inthe text. One of
my audience members stated that he wantedto see
something ‘out of the ordinary’, what he meant is he
wantedto see something unique inthis magazine that
shows rap conventions but yet differentiates it from
stereotypicalrapstars today. He brought Macklemore as
an example. Macklemore is not affiliatedwithdrugs nor
does he rapabout wealth or he doesn’t rapabout women.
He is something out of the ordinary;I will consider it.
