both gender.
Frequency of release;
My magazine will be released monthly,
the price determined this because it is an
expensive magazine to pay for every
week. Also, it will be hard to find
information to put in the magazine to
release weekly.
Colour Schemes; The colour scheme for my
magazine will be black with white writing
but will have partly gold words throughout
the magazine to math the gold title. I have
chosen this colour because it signifies the
reader that the colours match the music
artists life in which it is fulfilled will
expensive jewelry.
Brand Identity; On the front of

On the front cover of my magazine I will have a picture of
the music artist that is going to have the biggest amount of
information inside the magazine. This will be someone
who is extremely big in this music business of this genre.

will give the effect on the reader that my magazine has
exclusive photos of this artist because not many photos
are like that.

6. Inspiration Slide
Strapline.
‘The Chosen One’ in all capitals shows how
successful XXL magazines stories have been
throughout the years and beats any
competitor.
Artists Picture.
This is a mid-shot photo of the successful
artist Kendrick Lamar, the photograph
shows him looking up, this could
metaphorically mean that Kendrick is
showing XXL magazine is at the top of the
scales.
Writing.
The white writing on the red background
signifies that he is different to every else
and metaphorically sticks out from all the
other artists.
Cover Line.
The cover lines signify what the
magazine covers in that issue. It has the
artist in big so it catches the audiences
eye to see if they are interested in that
artist.
Masthead.
The letter ‘XXL’ is in a modern
font which makes it look smart
and different to other
magazines.
Main Headline.
The front cover is a picture of Kendrick who is an extremely
successful artist looking up at something. This matches the
heading ‘The chosen one’ the picture matches because
Kendrick Lamar is looking up (almost like he is thinking about
his stories and dreams he’s told XXL)

8. Front Cover deconstruction
The Strapline.
‘Hip-Hop on a Higher Level’ signifies to
the audience what the genre of the
magazine is before they buy it from a
shop. It also signifies that XXL has the
best information on the hip hop genre
and over rules all of its competitors with
its high quality information.
Cover Lines.
The lines connotes all of the
important stories that are going
to be included in the magazine.
By XXL using these cover lines
they will attract more customers
because
Masthead.
The use of the red contrasting
with the white writing signifies
that it stands out to the reader
that they are picking up an XXL
Magazine and none other. The
masthead also stands out
because it is put in front of a
grey background.
Main image.
The main image is of the successful
rapper Jay Z. The use of him being
as tall as the empire state building is
a metaphor showing how big he is
in the music culture. The use of him
wearing all black on a grey
background connotes that he
stands out from the rest. He also
denotes ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) Barcode.
This contains the date, issue and price and also
sometimes contains technological convergence
such as Facebook and Twitter.
9. Deconstruction of DPS
Main image
The image is of a very successful
rapper (Wiz Khalifa) who is taking
drugs in the picture suggesting that
XXL is for the older generation rather
than the younger as they wouldn't’t
show this in a magazine for the young
generation as they wouldn't’t want to
prevent drugs. Also the picture takes
over 1 page, this connotes his
importance as he's got a whole
double page spread and one page is
just a picture of him.
Background
The use of the black background and
wiz khalifas hat which is yellow
connotes his most popular single
which was named ‘black and yellow’
which he is most known for because
of the success.
Stand first
This speaks about Wiz Khalifas rise
to fame and how he's got there. It
also gives information on his track
‘black and yellow’ and how that
helped his success.
Drop Capital
This connotes to the reader where to start
reading from. Also the use of the colour
yellow for the font suggest it stands out from
the white background.
10. Contents Page
Main Image.
This is a photo of a very recognisable
music artist (Lil Wayne) that the
audience would know and therefore
will want to read about this rap artist.
By XXL using this rapper as a photo on
their contents page connotes that this
is the genre of music that they have
information on throughout the
magazine. Also, with the use of Lil
Wayne's bright green sunglasses and
bright orange watch suggest that he
has parts of him that stand out with
the grey background.
Background.
The background used by XXL is a
light grey background. They have
used this because it makes the
rapper (Lil Wayne) stick out
because he has a darker grey top
on making the reader see the
rapper before they start reading.
Sub Headings
The sub heading denotes where Lil
Wayne’s section is in the magazine
is a lot more bigger than the rest of
the information that is throughout
the magazine. This is because most
of the readers would've bought the
magazine because of the rapper
that is on the magazine.
Contents title
The use of he phrase ‘ The a-side’
suggest that these artists are the best
of best and nothing is above them
because they are in the ‘A class’
which means the best.
11. Genre and
Frequency
XXL magazines genre is based hugely on Hip-Hop but they occasionally have issues that
feature a Rap artist. For example some of the hip hop artists they have included are;
A$AP Rocky, Soulja Boy, Dr.Dre,Jay Z and 50 cent. All of the artists shown are known
across the world which signifies how huge XXL magazine is for the genre they produce.
XXL is a quarterly magazine.
12. Form and Style
The form and style of the magazines is like every other music
magazine to do with the genre hip hop or rap would be. The logo
‘XXL’ is very similar to ‘VIBE’, the chosen magazine signify that they
are more serious about their issues and want their magazine to
have the best quality and be the best magazine in the world/ All the
XXL issues always have their lay out the same or very similar, this
includes the mastheads being behind the front page star, the
masthead is usually the same size, also, the main headline is always
in the same place, the same goes to the barcode. The colours used
on the magazine are the same throughout the issue, it is usually a
simple background cover and the headlines used normally match
the colour of the mastheads. The language used throughout the
magazine is the same as the type of language that would be used by
the artists themselves. This is proven when XXL used the slogan ‘the
dopest music’. This is very stereotypical as it shows the audience
that the issues of the magazine, music and artists that they come
across uneducated.
13. Front Page Analysis
Masthead
The letters ‘RWD’ are written in a modern font, this could signify
that because its modern it means its up to date news and is
covering the most favourite genre of music at the moment. The
word ‘RWD’ is clearly an abbreviation for ‘rewind’. This is clever
because the magazine is covering what has happened in the
previous month and therefore is metaphorically ‘rewinding’.
Main Headline
On the front cover they have used An
upcoming rapper called ‘Joey Bada$$’ he is
extremely popular and successful artist with
the teenage generation so this is the type of
target audience this magazine is trying to
appeal too. By using the words ‘Boy wonder’ it
signifies how just a ‘boy’ can be so talented
and successful which makes people wonder
due to just how good he is. The use of the
colour red on the grey background shows that
this ‘boy’ sticks out from the crowd and that is
why he is here today. The colour red also
contrasts well with his jacket due to the fact
that his jacket has many red or red-like colours
on it.
Artists Picture
Firstly, the picture used contains a background in which
the tents contrast with the colour of the background to
make them stand out, the use of tents being included
show that people are queuing up just to see him do a live
performance. It also interacts with the fact that this is the
‘festival issue’ and most festivals you will need to sleep in
a tent for. The use of the colour of the jacket also conveys
that the artist stands out from all the mainstream which
in this case would be the plain background and offers
something new and different to the rap genre.
Social Media
The bar at the bottom of this front page shows
all the different logos of social medias that this
magazine uses. This signifies to the reader that
they don’t just have to keep buying the
magazine order to see what the latest news is.
More so, they can use the social media services
to see what's going on lately and instant.
Writing
The writing used is very strange, this is because they have
chosen to make it white on a very light grey background
making it difficult to see, maybe this was used to give a
smart and classy look. Also, for the writing ‘festival issue’
they have changed the two ‘ss’ in issue to ‘i$$ue’ this is
clever as the artists who’s on the front cover puts two
dollar signs in his name which is ‘bada$$’.
Additional Research
14. DPS
Writing
The writing used is just a classic
black font that has been put
onto a white background. The
magazine may have used this to
make the pictures on the right
stand out because if the
background on the writing with
bright and colourful then it
wouldn’t make the photo of
‘Joey Bada$$’ stand out. This
signifies that the artist is the
main reason people are reading
this magazine so they need to
make him the person that is
different and stands out within
the magazine.
Picture
This picture used is the artist that they
have chose to be on the front of the
magazine ‘Joey Bada$$’. The picture is a
normal photo of him in front of a
colourful crowd that are obviously
watching him at a festival, this could
signify that he is just an ordinary person
who has this side to him that is
colourful which he expresses within his
music which is why the crowds have
took note of that while listening to him
and when they turned up to the festival
they are giving of happy emotions and
lots of colour, instead of no colour and
looking sad.
Title
There is no title for this double page
spread. This could show that because the
magazine is very well known and has a
unique feel to it, they haven’t put a title
ion to give it a qwerky and unfinished
look. This could signify that because the
target audience the magazine is kids, they
have made it look like a kid has made it.
This could then build an even bigger
relationship with the reader as they can
see that the magazine is very similar to
themselves.
Copyright
To the bottom left of the picture side
there is writing. This is where the
photographer and writer would put
their information as they are the
people that have made that article
and therefore should receive
recognition for. It is also [put in place
so that people know that, that is the
photographer and journalists piece of
work and no one else should be able
to copy it.

16. Form and Style
The title for my website will be white writing with gold trimmings.
The font will be the same simple writing throughout the magazine
but will sometimes have a word highlighted like the title if that
certain word is important (such as the sub headings that are in the
contents page).

magazine.
