2. QUESTION ONE: WHAT DO
THEY WANT TO SEE?
Many of those who answered my questions would like the see what is expected of
the rock genre , they look for aggressive colours and large statements .
They comment on the necessary feature of a bold font and large lettering, they
look for posters and extra pieces of information from the magazine .
Popularly stated , the all look for a main story advertised on the font cover.
Some have expressed the need for the figures to be masculine as the would help
portray the genre to the audience better.
3. The ages of those who answered my questions are mostly 16 to 17 years of age.
This means my target audience consists of teenagers and slightly older
adolescents who are interested in the rock genre , to sufficiently adhere to their
needs and requirements , the magazine should also consist of things that would
relate teenagers.
This should be done with the use of young models , who look the part of the genre.
Despite the age of my target audience they should look mature , so that the
audience can relate but also admire the slightly older figure on the cover . There
should be a relaxed style of writing that is balanced between the chatty language
of a pop magazine and that of an intellectual topical magazine, because my target
audience is between those ages of their individual target audiences.
4. QUESTION THREE: WHAT
DO THE EXPECT FROM A
FRONT COVER? My target audience look for a very stereotypical type of rock magazine , they look
for dark colours and an informal house style to the magazine that speaks with an
attitude .
They want covers with “large images of the artists and bold fonts “ they look for a
standard layout on the cover of a magazine , this means that other magazines
have a working formula which appeals to them , so I will try to recreate this in my
cover whilst trying to explore other types of presentation.
5. The target audience express a heightened interest in music , which is helpful as
they enjoy many genres such as Pop, Rock , Indie and Rap . However they mainly
mention an explicit liking of rock music with varying interests in bands like
Bring Me The Horizon , Blink182 , Panic!AtTheDisco and many more alternative
groups .
Some prefer popular music and dance and express this excessively …“I love Justin
Bieber .”
6. QUESTION FOUR:
REVIEWING KERRANG!
MAGAZINE. In the fourth and final question I asked my target audience what they thought of
the popular rock music magazine Kerrang! , I asked them what they liked about
the front cover so that I could get a rough idea of what they wanted from me when
I create my own magazine cover.
Many of them liked the large fonts and the close up images of the band members ,
the liked the spacing between the band and the text presented ion the cover .
Only a few had holes to pick , slight criticisms on the brightness of the fonts, they
feel that maybe they are too bright. With one of them saying “.” Rock doesn’t really
appeal to me, so there’s not much I like about Kerrang! , sorry.”
