2. I have chosen to do “The Source” magazine
as I feel the artists that they use a wide
variety of artist within the Hip Hop genre of
music. Their main images on the front
covers are very creative and clever and the
colours used are very vibrant and attract
the readers eye. The front covers main
images are usually a medium close up of
an artist or a group shot, all the covers that
I have looked at are male artists as they are
the gender that dominate the hip hop
genre.
3. The contents page of the source magazine are all
completely different and do not follow a certain
structure, although on both the examples I have
found, there is a logo in the top right corner, a main
image and subheadings with a small explanation
underneath. The covers are simple but get across all
the information you need on a contents page telling
you the main articles in the magazine and the things
they feel the reader is most likely to want to read.
4. The articles in “The Source” use quite a lot of imagery and less text as it
tends to be a lower class magazine with quite a low average reader. The
articles usually cover a double page and one article will focus on one artist
from the hip hop genre of music. This article above is about a famous
rapper called Tupac Shakur who was murdered and so this article is a
memorial article talking about his life and the things that he achieved
throughout his life and his career.
5. For 20 years, “The Source” has been the leading international voice for the
ever-evolving world of Hip-Hop music. The Source’s coverage is dynamic
and remains committed to their growing and diverse audience. Under new
ownership, The Source’s new era will see the brand hitting even larger
audiences through a wide-ranging multi-media platform that utilizes
traditional methods like TV and radio as well as the famous magazine.
The Source was founded as a newsletter in 1988. The target audience of
the magazine is very vast, although the audience is mainly males aged
between 16 and 25, the magazine focuses on hip hop the magazine is
released10 times a year and sells magazines internationally.
