Music Magazine Planning

My music genre
I have decided to chose the Hip Hop genre of music as my magazine as it is regarded by
many: as a very popular genre of music by the participants that partook in my
questionnaire . With its unique sounds, Hip Hop is commonly based on concepts of
looping, rapping, free styling, DJ-ing, scratching, sampling and beat boxing. The music
is used to express concerns of political, social, and personal issues.
Also I chose this music genre for my magazine because I personally love Hip Hop and the
messages that it portrays especially those that are of a positive nature. As well as
the artists that produce the music controversial or not. Hip Hop is a a unique, popular
and entertaining genre of music.
The source Magazine was first established as a newsletter in
1988, the president of the magazine is Jeremy Miller. The
source has grown into one of the largest and most influential
hip-hop publications in the United States. It has be said to be
“The Bible of Hip-Hop.“ The readership of the magazine is…
The source magazine targets all hip hop lovers of all ages that
have a thorough interest in the genre and all that it has to
offer.
This edition of the Source Magazine has “Lil Wayne” in big
letters emphasising he is a major superstar of Hip-Hop. His
photo is a close up shot as the front cover advertising it to the
target audience of hip hop lovers that he will be main feature
within the magazine, which will appeal to them as currently he
is the top man in Hip-Hop. Also along the right side it shows
the other musicians that feature in the magazine to appeal to
the readers of hip hop magazine. Also it says “The Bible Of
Hip-Hop music, culture & politics” this shows that the
magazine or more than just about the music but the culture
and politics in the Hip-Hop industry also because it is called
“The Bible Of Hip-Hop music” it shows that its better than any
other Magazine so buyers would be getting the best
information from this magazine.

The vibe magazine was founded by
Quincy Jones who is a music
producer the publication in 1993, in
partnership with Time Inc. The
magazine features Hip- Hop and RnB
as well as actors and entertains
around the Hip-Hop industry.
The readership of the magazine is…
The magazine predominantly young,
urban followers of Hip-Hop culture.
As it is a revamped magazine which
is trying to target a young audience
however older people can still read
and enjoy.
This edition of ‘Vibe’ has “Drizzy-Drake”
on the front cover who is an up and
coming artist who is said to be the
best new comer and received the
award for “rookie of the year”. This
would appeal to target audience as
they should know him as he is very
famous even at this early part of his
career. His appearance would make
people want to read in order to find
out more about him and what he
thinks. Also an ‘EXCLUSIVE’
interview with ‘Chris Brown’ would
also appeal to people as he is in a lot
of media speculation with the Rhiana
scandal. therefore people will want
to know what he has to say about his
actions, this being exclusive would
entice them more so. Also the other
artists that will be feature in the
magazine will appeal to the target
audience as they are apart of the
industry also.

School Magazine
Evaluation of preliminary
task: School magazine
In evaluation of my magazine, I would say it has turned out well and is of a
standard that would attract my target audience and also competes in the
professional market of magazines. I feel this because based on my market
research I did via a questionnaire on www.surveymonkey.com by following the
basis of it I have come out with something that I feel people will appreciate as
a school magazine based on what they wanted. My target audience being
those that are in year 11 at school or in Post 16/college.
Originally, I started off with another magazine cover design which has been
changed dramatically in order to get where it is now. It first started off with a
different colour scheme but after careful deliberation I decided to change it so
it appealed to my target audience which is year 11 students that go to Harris
Crystal Palace; this is why I decided to change the colour scheme to the
Harris colours of green. After this I changed the title of my magazine which
was previously going to be named the student voice this is was then in my
view intelligently changed to S-Vox which means the same thing except I
changed the word “Voice” to “Vox” as it is diverse to many other magazine
names but means the same thing “voice” and S stands for “student” which as
a result makes “S-Vox”. Following my title change, I then changed my
pictures which were: headphones with the core running down the middle with
speakers at either side emphasising sound because of “voice” and then school
equipment, Harris tie and the Harris lunch card. This was done to appeal to
the Harris students.
