How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Those highlighted in
yellow are the main
target audience for my
magazine.
4. The most famous rock bands/ artists
include:
• The Beatles.
• The Rolling Stones.
• The Doors.
• Bob Dylan.
• Elvis Presley.
• Jimi Hendrix.
• Led Zeppelin.
• David Bowie.
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Anybody who listens to
rock music frequently
(usually heavy rock music)
is referred to as a ‘rocker’.There are different types of rock
music such as: rock & roll, metal,
heavy metal, hard rock, industrial
rock, rap rock, indie rock etc.
‘Rockers’ are an appropriate
audience for my magazine as
they listen to the type of music
which my magazine focuses on.
5. Types of Indie music:
• Indie Pop.
• Indie Rock.
• Indie Hip-Hop.
• Indie Dance.
• Indie Electronic.
• Indie Folk.
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
‘Independent Music’,
known as ‘Indie’ Music is
music produced
independently from major
commercial record labels.
Indie bands include: Awolnation,
Bastille, The Cardigans, Foster The
People, Fountains of Wayne, Arctic
Monkeys etc.
6. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Types of Audience
The type of audience which my
magazine aims to attract is:
• People who are interested in
Indie/ Rock music.
• People who go to concerts/
festivals.
• People who enjoy listening to
music frequently.
• People who want to know
exclusive information about
their favourite bands/
upcoming artists.
I have included a cover
line which attracts
people interested in
rock.
I have used some of the
top rock/ indie artists
on the front cover.
I have included an
upcoming artist ‘VEX’
who the audience will
be interested in as they
want to know exclusive
details.
7. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Social Class, Age, Disability
In my magazine, all of the people featured are white
meaning that my target audience will most likely be
targeting white people. This is because rock/ indie
fans are usually white- however it does not exclude
other races/ ethnicities from my target audience as
non-white/ non- British people exist in the
subcultures of rockers/indie.
8. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Social Class, Age, Disability
There will be no dominant gender of the audience of
my magazine. Most of the artists featured in my
magazine are male- this could attract both genders
as other males will aspire to be like the artists and
females could be attracted to the people featured-
therefore they would pick up the magazine.
9. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Social Class, Age, Disability
My magazine mainly targets the middle class people as
they are more likely to be able to afford a weekly
magazine. Also, the rock/ indie cultures mainly consist
of middle class people who purchase albums/
download music. This does not rule out the working
class/ other social classes, however as rock/ indie
cultures also contain many other social classes who
would be interested in purchasing this magazine.
10. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Social Class, Age, Disability
My magazine represents teens and young adults of
both genders- this is because the artists used in my
magazine are young- therefore my particular
magazine would most likely attract young people-
from the ages of about 14-25 years old. This does
not exclude people under or over this age- as a wide
range of ages enjoy listening to rock or indie music.
11. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Social Class, Age, Disability
My magazine does not address whether or not it is
aimed at people with disabilities/ without
disabilities. People either with or without disabilities
listen to rock music and indie music- therefore it is
aimed at both. People with disabilities could have an
issue with going to concerts/ festivals if they are in a
wheelchair but usually these big events provide
facilities for people who need them.
