The document describes how the media product uses and challenges conventions of real magazines. Key points:
- The title is large and centered at the top in a quirky bold font to catch the eye, as is common.
- Cover lines provide good information as in professional magazines.
- Pictures are included to give sneak previews of articles, again following real magazine conventions. However, the color scheme is reversed from the typical white text on black background.
How my media product uses and challenges conventions
1. In what way does your media
product use, develop or
challenge conventions of real
media products?
By Abbie Field
2. Here I have taken this idea
from Kerrang magazine
and made it my own, I
have made it more sticker
like and it goes against my
colour scheme to make it
stand out.
The title of the magazine
is big and at the top
centre of the page with
a quirky bold font to
make it eye catching.
The cover lines are small
but readable and include a
good amount of
information.
The main cover line is in
the centre of the page to
make it the most appealing
and it almost anchors the
main image.
Kerrang have used a
banner to mention
artist included and I
have taken that idea
but used it to
advertise something.
3. Here I have made my title for
my contents page bigger to
make it more noticeable but
it is still in the standard place
(at the top).
I have used a picture for
advertisement to show my
readers what kind of bands will be
inside.
Putting the page
numbers and content on
the left is common so I
also did this to add some
normality to my
magazine.
Here I have added pictures to
my magazine to show who the
little sneak preview of an
article is about this is also
done in professional
magazines.
4. Backgrounds are normally the
complete opposite colour to the
text in order for it to be
readable, it’s normally a white
black ground and black font but I
turned it around and did the
opposite.
Magazines often use a main image for
articles to show the reader who the article
is about.
Colour schemes will follow
throughout the article, often
following the house style .
Articles are often put in columns but
I have taken this and used lines to
split them instead of just leaving
space.
Drop caps are used to make the font look more
interesting and to bring attention to the beginning of
the article itself, it is often used to start an important
paragraph.
