The magazine uses conventions of real magazines such as a colorful cover with the magazine title, date, artist images and coverlines to entice readers. Inside, it includes contents listing artist features, subscription details, editorials, page numbers and bold text for easy reading. However, it challenges some conventions by placing the artist name below rather than beside the image on double page spreads, and arranging content differently with pictures above text. The goal is to engage readers while experimenting with traditional magazine design.

1. Q1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media product?
My music magazine uses all the conventions that
magazines use out there today. It has a cover image which
uses eyes contact which draws the audience into the
magazine. It also covers the title GNBM which is what
most magazines are like. The name of the magazine is
bold and catches peoples eye, along with the bold yellow
and electric blue colour scheme.
I have also included another picture on the magazine to
add variation to the front cover so its not just one big
picture and text. I have used a variation of fonts, but not
to many, to keep the style of the magazine interesting.
Every magazine has a date and price of the magazine, so
this is included on the front cover along with a barcode in
the corner. I wanted to make this 1st Edition to stand out
so I chose the colour red to do this, which doesn’t come
into category with my colour scheme but this is why it
stands out. I have added a banner at the top of the page
to engage the reader.
All of the artists names are bold and big to stand out and
to let the reader know what information is in the
magazine. I have added coverlines below the artists name
revealing what it is about, but I haven't revealed to much
so the reader has to buy the magazine to find more about
the artist.
2. Q1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media product?
On my contents page it has a big title saying if it’s a
weekly or monthly magazine. It also includes a date so
the reader knows where they are up to. It includes
several pictures of artists and bands which feature in the
magazine and the coverlines tell you what its about
which will make the reader want to read the magazine.
The colour scheme follows through on the contents page.
I have made sure there is a subscription in the magazine
as most magazines have them in there to make money
and to keep the readers happy. An editorial is used to
open the new music magazine. Heading are used and are
bold to make the magazine clear to the reader. I made
the headlines so that they were right at the bottom of
the black box so it creates a quirky effect to the white
text. Page numbers are included along with what will be
on them so the reader can easily find what they want.
Also page numbers are included on the pictures so they
can quickly read the information about that artist or
band.
3. Q1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media product?
I have used bold text to clearly state who the
artist/band is, along with a big picture of the artist
which is what every double page spread needs. I
have used drop capitals and small font size. In
most of the double page spreads I researched
they had quotes that were in the article copied
and then made bigger to gain interest for the
reader. Also theres anchorage normally on the
picture; I changed this and put it where the
writing is so it doesn’t hide the picture as I think
pictures are important to the reader if they are a
fan of the band/artist. I also wanted to add
another picture of the band so it added variation
to the page. Normally on double page spread the
left hand side is a picture then the right hand side
is the article, however I wanted to add a twist and
half the article in a different way; the picture is at
the top and the writing is at the bottom.
