1. Q1. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms
and conventions of magazine products?
My Front Cover
Most mastheads of music magazines
are short so that the audience can
recognise them. I wanted my masthead
to be big and bold to make it eye
catching. And stand out. Music
magazines usually have a line of writing
that would make the reader want to
choose the particular magazine. I have
kept to my colour scheme and made it
bold so that people will be attracted to
reading it.
Puff advertising competitions, this
draws people to the magazine .
The main feature that is in the

the magazine i.e House music.
The smaller features are also

2. The main headings at the top

stand out so people know
what this page is, also I have
used the same font and my
main heading on the front
cover.
The headings on the contents
page are just as important as on
the front cover. I have wrote
subheadings underneath them to
give a bit more information to
what they are about.
The photographs that I have
used are connected to the
theme of the magazine and the

my colour scheme so it is the same and
these are the colour people said were On my front cover I have
best on the questionnaire. I have written advertised that you get free
in an informal way so the headlines are earphones with the magazine
short and the audience will want to read and on the contents pages I

article I have interviewed a fan of
David Guetta, this will interest other
fans to their different opinions.
My Double Page
I chose a plain background
colour to make the headline
stand out. I have carried on my
colour scheme to make the
magazine look more
professional. These colours grab
your attention because of the
grey background and I wanted
to make sure it was eye catching
for the readers.
I have used a simple image which I then photo shopped
to make It black and white, I did this because it goes
better with my background than the colour image. Also
the picture relates to David Guetta because he is a DJ
and in the picture she is wearing headphones.
On the same page I have written a catchy
line this is so that it is memorable to people
and will stick in their heads, and because it
is the name of one of his albums, it fits in
with the article.
4. Q2. How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
Social groups are recognised by their appearance and the types of music they listen to. Fans of House music
are represented in my magazine because on my front cover and contents page I have used features, such as
festivals and gigs that fans of this type of music would be interested in. people that wouldn't read this type of
magazine would be people that enjoy rock or jazz music, this would be because House music would not
interest them and it is a very different style to what they are normally used to listening to, therefore people
that enjoy this type of music would not buy my magazine. The age of my magazine is for 15-25 year olds. This
is represented because on the contents page there are features which would appeal to this age group, for
example competitions and features about festivals and gigs which are suitable for this age range also my
double page spread would appeal to all o f this age range. Both genders are represented in the magazine. For
example I haven't used certain colours or images that would be associated with just one gender I have used
colours that on my questionnaire people said they would relate to house music this is from both boys and
girls so The article that I have chose to write about on my double page spread is David Guetta, you wouldn’t
just associate on gender with his music style. Music magazines are not just based on social class. My magazine
would be suitable for both middle class and working class people. The type of magazine I have made does not
represent just one race or sexuality. Both gay and straight people would enjoy this magazine because there
are events that would appeal to both. On my contents page there are many different features for festivals and
gigs this would not only appeal to one type of sexuality. The region in which people live is not a particular thing
that is represented in the magazine, this is because different people in different regions would still enjoy this
magazine because they would still be interested in festivals and gigs that would be held around the country.
5. Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
Bauer and IPC are both publishing companies for magazines. I think that Bauer
would be more suitable to publish my magazine, this is because even though they
already publish music magazines they don’t publish a House style music magazine
and therefore I think that it would be good because this is where they have a gap
in their publishing.
The retail outlets that I would expect my magazine to be sold in are supermarkets
news agents and music stores.
