1. Bauer Media
1875-
Bauer Media was founded in 1875 and is now
accountable for the publication of 600 magazines,
over 400 digital products as well as 50 radio and TV
stations around the world. This shows their diversity
within the media and their capability to produce
successful media products in many different
formats. When publishing my music magazine they
could also offer support into creating successful
website and radio links to increase marketing.
20th Century-
Bauer was one of the first companies to ever
publish a free advertising paper in Germany when
they released “Rothenburgsorter Zeitung”. This is
much more of an informative publication than a
specialised magazine I would like to focus on
however it shows they are open to new ideas and
investments and are successful in releasing new,
unknown publications.
1950s and 1960s
Bauer became much more established, expanding
and building it’s name with it’s release of popular
Programme and Youth magazines. This shows how
they can cater to different target audiences and
direct correct advertising to the desired niche
markets.
1980s and 1990s
As a company Bauer expanded away from just old
media publications, taking shares in private
television broadcaster RTL II, the private radio
station Radio Hamburg however they kept loyalty
with their old media publications and also went on
to take over and release the largest daily
newspaper in northern Saxony- Anhalt,
Magdeburger Volksstimme.
1981-
The company began to expand internationally by
launching “Woman’s World” in the US. From the
beginning it was the best seller of millions of copies
due to the fact it was the first magazine of it’s kind
over there. The German company was very quickly
a market leader in kiosk sales due to it’s excellent
marketing and popularity. This could be very
beneficial to the launch and initially advertising of
my new magazine.
1990s-
The company successfully took digitalisation in it’s
stride, expanding concepts and successful
magazines to the internet and online world. Current
old media publications continued to grow in
popularity as they worked in correlation with online
portals providing new outlooks and interactive
accessibility. This could be very successful to
adding a new dimension of interest and accessibility
to my magazine, thus, increasing popularity.
