2. BAUER MEDIA GROUP: THE BEGINNING
Bauer media is the largest magazine company in
Europe and publish over 600 magazines in atleast 20
different countries.
It began in 1875 when the founder Ludolph Bauer set
up a printing plant in Hamburg to create business
cards.
This quickly developed and soon he was releasing the
local advertising newspaper “Rothenburgersorter”
followed by other papers. In 1926 he managed a huge
success by publishing “Rundfunk-Kritik” as it
reached sales of over half a million selling weekly.
3. SUCCESS
Quickly realising his success, Ludolph’s printing
company climbed its way to the top after the second
world war by releasing listing guides, youth
magazines and much more.
His TV guides reached over a million readers and
releases of the magazines Quick, Revue and Bravo
meant they had a place in every German's home as
they became increasingly popular.
4. TINA AND BELLA
In the early 1970’s women’s weekly magazines began
to be released starting with Tina and Bella.
Soon after, Bauer is able to buy a share in the TV
broadcaster RTL II and Radio Hamburg which
further broadens their horizons and oppurtunities.
The Madgeburg daily Volksstimme is then added to
the portfolio.
5. INTERNATIONAL
Bauer takes a leap across the pond and in 1981 the
company releases Woman’s World as the first
women’s weekly magazine in the USA and it was a
huge success! Bauer then decides to take on British
and polish markets.
Successful German magazines begin to be adapted
for readers abroad and Bauer media extends to radio
business.
6. MOVING ON
Yvonne Bauer builds on the Bauer empire in 2012 by
acquiring the publisher ACP in Australia and New
Zealand and purchasing the scandinavian SBS group
making Bauer Media Group Europe’s number one
radio station operator.
7. ONLINE SUCCESS
Bauer media moves online in the 1990’s expanding
its successful magazine concepts onto the internet.
2009- Wunderweib, the brand for german women’s,
lifestyles and peoples magazines goes online.
The polish search engine interia.pl has belonged to
Bauer since 2007
Bauer’s digital segment is still growing in all areas
and expanding for more audiences everyday.
