Q.2 how does your media product represent particular
1.
2. My Target Social Group…
My target social group is hip hop
dancers…
3. Front Cover
Relevant Images, fonts, colours, costume…
On my front cover I have used this image as it reflects the social
group of hip hop/street dancers. This is because I have made the
model wear headphones, this makes the model look very hip
hop/R&B orientated. Therefore, the image represent the particular
social group meaning that they can relate to the image. The fonts
on the front cover are block fonts and most of them are in capital
letters. This represent the social group as they are all about loud
and bold music and have big, bold personalities when they do
street dancing. The colours on the front cover represent the
particular social group as streets dancers like to vary the coloured
clothing they wear. They like to go for dark colours with the odd
bright coloured accessory. Also, the model is wearing a baggy t-
shirt. This represents street dancers as they prefer to wear baggy
clothes.
Music genre…
The social group the magazine is aimed on all depends on the
music genre chosen orientate the magazine around. My chosen
music gene is R&B/Hip Hop. Therefore, I have used features to
suggest the hip hop/R&B genre. This mean that the social group
attracted to the magazine will be the group which favours hip
hop/R&B music.
4. Front Cover
The contents of the magazine…
The pages I have chosen to add to my magazines reflect
the music genre and therefore reflect the specific social
group. For example, by adding a page called ‘2012’s
biggest performances’ this appeals to the specific social
group of street dancers as they will be able to relate to
the performances and it could help them with their
dancing. Therefore, it represents the social group
because features in the magazines reflect the lifestyle of
the social group.
5. Double Page Spread
The Article…
The article I have used represents street dancers because they may be able to relate
their lifestyle to the way of ‘Vick-tori’s life. They can relate to the way she used to
busk to show off her talent just like a street dancer could.
6. Feed Back
I know that my media product represent the target social group well
because of the feed back questionnaire I did and the Focus group I
conducted.
In the focus group I asked the question ‘is it clear that the magazine is hip
hop orientated?’. The response was ‘yes because of the headphones
(props) and the clothes the models are wearing (costumes)’.
Therefore, from the feedback I can see that my media product represents
the target social group well through the way that the focus group has
identified the way I have aimed to attract the social group.
On the questionnaire I asked ‘it is clear the magazine is hip hop
orientated’. 60% of the people who took part in the questionnaire agreed
with this statement. This means that my magazine represent the target
social group well because if the magazines is clearly hip hop orientated
then it will attract the right target audience meaning that it represents
them well.
