2. How Does Your Music
Magazine Represent
Particular Social
Groups?
3. Ways I Have Tried To Represent
Particular Social Groups
Throughout my magazine, I found that the
social groups that are represented in my
magazine was a very important factor. I tried
to use multiple features to develop and
construct these representations. The things
include;
Style
Clothing in Images
Photo backgrounds/areas
Mise-en-scene
4. The Sunglasses are a popular
accessory which reinforce the
social group I am targeting
The branded polo shirt is
something that could create a
fashion statement which would
appeal to the social group who
my magazine is aimed towards
I chose my artist to pose in
such a way because it
presents the impression that
he is a typical hip-hop/pop
artist.
His clothing is quite
mainstream which would not
associate with many other
artists of other genres
5. The Image in the top left represents an indie audience.
This is due to the clothes; because the coats that both
artists are wearing are typical of indie artists. The facial
expressions also look quite ‘Ignorant’ which is what I
wanted to represent what is stereotypical of indie
artists.
The Image in the top left represents the social group
that would listen to dance/dubstep music. This shows
how I have tried to make my magazine appeal to
multiple social groups. The image shows the DJ on
stage with a complete set up ./ Whilst he is holding his
headphones with one hand, this is a typical ‘DJ’ image.
The main feature image reinforces the main image on
the front cover., The background shows the backdrop
of a town, which connotes that the artist has made it to
the top. This is a kind of area that you would expect
people who listen to hip-hop and R&B to hang around,
therefore this is a way of appealing to those people.
Once again, the clothing of the main artist is quite
mainstream and popular fashion.
Finally, the image at the bottom of the page, would
appeal most to people who listen to pop music. This is
because the clothes worn are quite mainstream as
well as the haircuts of the artists represent a
popular, fashionable social group.
6. I believe that this image that
features on my double page
spread is one of the most
reinforcing of all the images I have
taken. The accessories of the
beanie and the headphones are
both things that are socially
fashionable. This represents the
idea that he is a popular guy,
which is something that people
would expect from a famous
singer; however this can also be
used as fashionable inspiration for
people who believe that this
fashion would suit their own social
group. I have tried to represent this
through all of the items seen in the
picture.
7. On this image, I have tried to
represent a particular social group
through multiple aspects of the
image. I believe that the background
is one of the key things. The graffiti
represents where the artist came
from; this is something that a lot of
people in the same situation could
relate to and aspire to become.
Therefore the social group
represented would be the one that
the artist himself could be
considered to be part of. The pose
of the artist and the clothes he is
wearing reinforce this social group.
The clothes are once again
mainstream fashion which a lot of
popular social groups would be
seen wearing.
8. CONCLUSION
To conclude; I have tried to represent
multiple particular social groups through
all elements of my images. These social
groups include people who would enjoy
dance, dubstep, indie, pop, hip-hop and
R&B music. As well as including people
who have multiple different fashion styles.
I believe that I have used these features
effectively to reinforce these groups.
