Ethics Of Care-Giver
Ethics of care is to maintain relationships by compromise and accommodation for the well–being of
a care–givers and care–receivers in a network of social relations. The meaning of care involves
meeting the needs of ourselves and others. Which refers to the ideas of concerning both the nature of
morality and normative ethical theory. But does this mean that the care receiver does exactly what
the care–giver desires in all situations? What if I keep the money instead of returning it back? Then I
wouldn't have to work twenty hours a week. And I will be able to focus in school better because I'm
not working as many hours. I know the car dealership owner doesn't need the money because he is
an owner of a car dealership and he has more than enough

Ethics Of Care And Relativism
Ethical System Reflection Everyone has their own system for determining what is right and wrong
based on certain principles. This can be categorized as an ethical system, which is defined as "a
structured set of principles that defines what is moral" (Pollock, 2015). Ethical systems have a
variety of characteristics, which create a blue print to how individuals make critical decisions. The
two ethical systems I relate to are, ethics of care and relativism. Ethics of care is an ethical system
which focuses on preserving and enriching relationships while also meeting the needs of others
(Pollock, 2015). While relativism is an ethical system explains how what is deemed right and wrong
changes based on an individual or groups belief (Pollock, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Applying Ethics of Care An example for ethics of care within the justice system is the concept of
restorative justice. Restorative justice highlights mending the relationships between an offender and
the victim; additionally, it brings the victim and offender together throughout this process (Alberta
Government, n.d.). Restorative justice supports ethics of care, as it focuses on the interpersonal
relationships versus a punitive approach, which is a key characteristic to this system. Moreover, the
offender, victim, and family members are involved in this process, supporting that all parties' needs
are considered. A personal example for ethics of care was when I was working at Park Place Mall
where there was an individual who was extremely emotionally distraught. This individual was
exhibiting behaviours, which are consistent with someone who was going to steal something, and
was acting out towards the staff members in that store. I walked up to this individual and began to
talk to this person building rapport. After some time, this individual wanted me to pay for their
clothing items because they were embarrassed by the situation. I paid for the items, and met them
outside the mall, where this individual started explaining how they wanted to commit suicide. Due
to these triggers, I stayed with the individual ensuring their safety, while also listening to their story.
Once I was confident this individual would not commit suicide, I

Care Ethics Case Study
Care ethics focuses on the idea "to maintain relationships by contextualizing and promoting the
wellbeing of caregivers and care–receivers in a network of social relations"(Staudt, Care Ethics).
For example, in a mother–child relationship the mother would be the caregiver and the child would
be the care–receiver. Then the roles would switch when the mother would become elderly and the
child is grown up. Care ethics is known for being a moral theory from the work of psychologist
Carol Gilligan and philosopher Nel Noddings.
Gilligan did an experiment called the Heinz dilemma. This is where children are asked whether a
man should steal a drug for his dying wife. The boy said he should while the girl said he should not.
Gilligan speaking from a male perspective deemed that women did not mature as quick as men did.
Noddings rejected this and stated that there is a female perspective to care ethics which worked
around relationships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noddings argued "that caring should be a foundation for ethical decision"(Staudt, Care Ethics). All
humans fall under two categories: caregivers or care–receivers. From the beginning we enter that
mother child relationship. By being in that caring relationship we want to remain and preserve that
relationship. Thus that will be our motivation to be moral in order to remain in the caring relation
and to enhance the ideal of ourselves as one–caring (Noddings 1984: 4–5). She also rejected
societies universal viewpoints of genders. She claimed that everyone has the right accept, reject or
change characteristics about themselves. Noddings believed would actually put limitations on us
because we had to be specific characteristics. And if we do not we would not be considered as a
"man" or "woman". Although most of her work was from the feminine point of view in some cases
it could be applied to men as

author starts with the definition of caring, and its relationship with nurses and nursing care

theory has evoluted throughout the years. It is important to mention the analysis presented by the

The Theory Of Feminist Care Ethics
A moral theory determines what is right or wrong based off a structured set of statements. There are
many different moral theories each obtaining their own set of guidelines for determining whether an
action is morally right or wrong. In this paper I consider one objection against feminist care ethics.
First I will outline the theory, and then discuss in detail the aspects of the theory that the objection
targets. Next I will explain what the objection states. Lastly I will describe why it is a serious
problem with the theory.
Feminist Care Ethics is a moral theory that is mainly focuses on emotions and caring for those we
are responsible for. There are many features within this theory. First, the main focus of feminist care
ethics is attending to whom we are responsible for. The theory acknowledges that throughout a
lifetime there are times where people will need to be cared for whether it is in their early years or
later. Those who are responsible for a person in need of care have an obligation to care for them. For
example a mother to her dependent child or a daughter to her ill mother or father (Held, 2006, p.
478–9). Second, what is considered to be moral or immoral should be based off of valued emotions.
Valued emotions are sympathy, empathy, sensitivity, and responsiveness. These are valued because
they are considered kind and moral. I support this part of the theory because other moral theories
rely on reason and rationalistic deductions and calculations in order

Nietzsche Care Ethics Analysis
Care Ethics, a Nietzschean Response.
|It has been argued that the "different voice" Gilligan, Held and Tronto posit in response to ethics
may not be as authentic or empowering as it would seem (Paley, 2002; Pukka, 1990). These
critiques draw consensus by utilising Friedrich Nietzsche's thoughts in Towards a Genealogy of
Morals (1887) to suggest how, in periods of oppression, the underrepresented and disempowered
have a tendency to promote morals systems that advocate inferior attributes as exhibiting increased
moral capital. In this respect the negative externalities associated with their work can be revalued as
a positive, empowering, authentic voice of the oppressed. Following from this idea, the case has
been made that care ethics fits the criteria of a salve morality, albeit one that specifically emerged
from the consequence of labor divisions enforced by patriarchy (Sander–Staudt, 2001). It is the view
of this paper that this claim is erroneous― based on an inaccurate impetus, the proposal of care
ethics exhibiting slave morality represents a fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this vein the concern that care ethics may not represent as an authentic and empowering voice as
it may suggest is motivated by statistics which expose the vast socioeconomic, sex and ethnic
discrepancy between those whom receive and those whom conduct care work and the possibility
that care ethics must then present a will to power focused through the concept of ressentiment . That
it is the disempowered, marginalised and underrepresented in society whom take on the majority of
care aligns to Nietzsche's suggestion that when under coercion, the feelings of the oppressed
towards their masters becomes focused on reaffirming the traits and value held endogenously to the
oppressed as virtues (Nietzsche,

Work Ethics In Care
Work ethics in a long term care facility is important because when employed, your co–workers and
supervisors need to know that they can count on you to do your job well. Being dependable is a very
important work ethic because you have to be at work on the time you were scheduled and you have
to be able to keep promises and stay on task. People that are not dependable in a care facility tend to
give fewer people care and the quality of the care they are giving tends to suffer. Also when
someone is not dependable for showing up on time it takes time away from the patients and
residents because someone has to cover for the absent employee. When working in care facilities
you not only work in a building but you also do home care visits you should

I've always been interested in the intersection of psychology, ethics, and work. Early in my career,
after completing an undergraduate degree in psychology and then an MBA with a focus on human
resource management, I began teaching and consulting in the areas of executive and organizational
development. A turning point for me was while I was teaching a course on business ethics and
discussing the 'value' of business with my students. Organizations (for–profit, non–profit, etc.) have
such potential to do good in our world – to go beyond simply 'do no harm' to actively providing
value to others both within the organization and for society and the natural environment – to

in the book Developing Leaders for Positive Organizing (to be published later this month) that
discusses the role of care in scaling social enterprise organizations, based on the data from the
environmental social enterprise that I'm studying. This book is meant for not only to academics but
also practitioners who are searching for ways to have a positive impact on their organizations and
beyond. Thus, I hope that my research will provide an example of the ways in which caring can be
incorporated into effective business models and add value not only to the work life of employees but

Define Ethics In Health Care
Ethics can be described as being a concept or principle that describes human behavior. The meaning
of ethic's is hard to define; people have their own thoughts about what ethics is about. The word
ethics often times is a link with law or religion. Both of these have more to do with society standards
than one's own behavior. Ethics is based on grounded values of right and wrong that advise what
people should do. Moreover, you can relate ethics to fairness or specific virtues. Ethics can also be
designated as values that impose the rational responsibilities to refrain from harming, stealing or
killing. Ethics is the study of universal values that consist of equality, natural rights, obedience with
the concern of health and safety. Additionally, ethics is a study of one's own standards with the
development of one's own values and moral beliefs. Ethic's means unremitting struggle of ... Show

When we talk about health care ethics involving patients, it brings upon challenging principles in the
health arena. There are four main principles that define the ethical duties within healthcare they are:
autonomy, beneficence, non–maleficence and justice. These principles are in effect at all times
within the care of the patient in any health care setting. (Health Care Ethics: Overview of the Basics,
2011) The most important of those principles is non–maleficence, which means do no harm. It is the
foundation of medical ethics and part of the physician oath. In all situations, a provider should not
cause any harm or put a patient in harm's way. The principle of "non–maleficence" entails the
purpose of circumventing needless harm or injury that can happen through acts of commission or
omission. In simple language, it can be thought of as act of "negligence" if you enact a careless or
arbitrary risk of harm upon another. (Runzheimer & Larsen,

Utilitarianism, Virtue And Care Ethics
The three ethical theories I will discuss from Chapter 1 include: utilitarianism, virtue and care
ethics. First, the utilitarianism is moral standard and a theory of action by humans that are morally
right in action. Utilitarianism is an action that is morally right if its consequences are more
favorable. One way for businesses', as our reading suggests (Fieser & Moseley, 2012), is make a list
of all the good and bad for any particular act. If the good outweighs the bad then that action should
occur. If the bad outweighs the good, then the action should stop. Utilitarianism theory attempts to
keep things on the positive, happier side of the spectrum. A company using this theory is probably
functioning well due to their morale analysis of actions related to safe products, good quality
products and customer care, a fair price, and fair and equal treatment to their employees. In addition,
because utilitarianism is a morale standard, a company would be environmentally conscious and
find ways to help the community and the world. A company would work at making their products in
an environmentally safe way, recycle surplus and make their products within the United States to
support the economy. A company would also look at balancing goods over harm produced to the
environment or people. Lastly, if a company were to be very successful, they should donate some of
their proceeds back into the community (environmentally or local community support) or employees
(bonuses,

Values In Ethics Of Care
Values and ethics are vital to any organization, Personal values can be defined as concepts or beliefs
about desirable end states or behaviours that transcend specific circumstances, guide selection or
evaluation of behavior and events, and are ordered by relative importance (Schwartz and Bilsky,
1987). Values convey what is important to us in our lives. We as individuals hold numerous values
with varying degrees of importance. Conflicts between personal and professional values are
common. Social workers are often faced with situations that bring them face to face with a conflict
between their personal values and professional values. Most professions aim to provide basic ethical
rules that professionals apply in decision making. These are usually derived from various traditional
ethical theories. This essay will be discussing and reflecting on some of these theories and how my
personal ethical values, shape and impact on my professional practice, using a case scenario.

relations, such as compassion, sympathy, empathy, and loyalty (Budd, 2004). Perspectives of the
ethics of care does not see ethical dilemma as an abstract problem with only one ethically correct
solution which is agreed on by impartial observers and by applying universally accepted principles.
Rather, solutions emerge from relationships of mutual care and from the context in which the
problems are rooted (Jones et al., 2007). This theory gave me the option of approaching James,

Virtue Ethics and Ethics of Care Aristotle and Rita Manning both have different theories when it
comes to ethics. Aristotle uses virtue ethics to answer questions about morality whereas Manning
uses what is called ethics of caring to do the same thing. Virtue ethics claims people's actions aim
towards the highest good of happiness. From happiness, moral virtue stems from reasons governing
the desires of the soul. Manning on the other hand believes that moral actions extend from people
caring for one another on a personal level. By developing the ability to care for others, people
become morally aware of how to act in certain situations. When the question of: "how ought I live
my life?" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then there are the two extreme ends of the states of character which is superhuman virtue and
brutishness. Superhuman virtue is displaying virtuous character in every case including extreme
situations. On the opposite end, brutishness is absent of reason and the desires are so morbidly
wrong that the actions are morbidly wrong as a result. Aristotle feels people should strive for the
superhuman virtue state, yet because being superhumanly virtuous is incredibly difficult, being
virtuous or continent is seen as good as well. Rita Manning's approach to ethics is referred to as
ethics of caring. She claims that ethics of caring has two elements, the first being disposition to care.
Disposition to care "is a willingness to receive others, a willingness to give the lucid attention
required to appropriately fill the needs of others" (Manning 477). The disposition deals with a
commitment to caring for the needs of others. Manning claims that humans are obligated to care for
not only the needs of others, but also what is required for the needs of others. A great example is
sending beef to India after a natural disaster. By sending provisions, people are showing they care
but they fail to realize that Hindu people do not eat beef. Instead, people should learn more about the
people they are helping so that they can send provisions that will do the most good. Manning states
that we need to be aware of the individual needs of certain people in

classroom teachers lacks significantly, especially when the child is in some inclusion classes
(Costley, 2013). Therefore, using the Ethics of Care framework, this solution would not allow Mrs.
Miller to be responsible, competent or responsive. This article demonstrates specifically the
responsiveness deficit in educational systems.
Although Ethics of Care is the most appropriate framework to use when assessing this situation, a
consequentialist may argue that this could be an acceptable solution because it provides the greater
good for the greater amount of people. Mrs. Miller will benefit her entire new class along with her
own family by bringing in a larger income. She will be able to provide her experience and
knowledge towards her new class who will most likely succeed in school and advance to high–end
universities and further provide for her family. Yet, consequentialist solutions do not acknowledge
the needs of all stakeholders. The Special Education students will be at a disadvantage in the
classroom, because Ms. Smith is not fully prepared to teach them.
The decision to have Mrs. Miller teach solely the special education class does not allow her to meet
the criteria of all four elements of care. If this solution is chosen, Mrs. Miller cannot guarantee
sufficient salary to support her four children on her own. According to the Ethics of Care
framework, this would not allow her to abide by the four elements of care. She would recognize her
children's need for care and

The Ethics Of Care, And Virtue Ethics
I am currently a computer science major and plan on becoming a computer programmer. My love
for technology including video games is unique along with my morals. Through the course we
covered five moral philosophies which can fit into my life. There is not a perfect moral philosophy,
which is why I will be taking bits and parts from the five different one to make one which fits my
life style and morals. The five I will be dissecting are, Utilitarianism, Social Contract Theory, Kant,
The Ethics of Care, and Virtue Ethics. Utilitarianism is a theory which I can agree with, mostly. I
would like to do what makes the majority of people happy, however, it might not always be the
correct decision. An example would be people at a workplace each decide to steal five dollars and
not tell (no one gets caught), this would make everyone happy but is it really morally correct. It also
depends on the outcome, if the consequences outweigh the happiness then the act is not ethical.
There are also other factors which can come into play, one scenario about the train going down the
tracks. You can save a bunch of people by switching the train to another track, but the person on the
other track is someone you love. This one person means more to you than just one unit of happiness
which does not follow the rule, everyone's happiness is the same. Utilitarianism brings a great way
to make ethical decisions, but it cannot be used in every situation which is why it only needs to be

"The Ethics of Care" stands for an attempt to change moral intelligent talk from the usual focus on
justice rights, and fairness, to another system that merges clearly feminine qualities for example
focusing too much on relationships, kindness, and the communication between and those for who
they take care of. John Tronto argues that the definition of the term "ethics of care" is confusing due
in part to the lack of a central role it plays in moral. He argues that moral is engaged with human
goodness, then care would appear to assume a big role in this type of way of thinking. However, this
is not the case and Tronto further stresses the association between care and "naturalness". The last

Virtue Ethics In Health Care
Introduction
Virtue ethics is one of the major approaches in normative ethics. virtue ethics emphasizes being
rather than doing. Our being, in other words, who we truly are, influences our behavior (Arries,
2005). Central to virtue ethics is the concept of integrity. Some manifestations of integrity include
honesty, truthfulness and truth telling, benevolence, wisdom, and moral courage (Butts & Rich,
2016). Integrity means being truthful to one's obligations; it focuses on health practitioners as people
and their commitment to their patients (Hursthouse & Pettigrove, 2016). In the following paper I

The goal is to improve the patient's quality of life and a dignified end of life. This calls for nurses
that have high moral and professional skills; and are able to develop relationships and make
complex decisions. Building a relationship with the patient and caregivers is essential in hospice
care and the nurse's integrity and honesty are valued highly (Erichsen, Danielsson, & Friedrichsen,
2010). In the clinical setting of hospice integrity is displayed by speaking up on behalf of the patient
when a patient's wellbeing and quality of care is threatened either by caregivers or other healthcare
professionals. There are many other ways that honesty is displayed in a hospice setting such as
communicating with patients and families about diagnosis, test results, prognosis, and different
options available for treatment and care. Honesty is also displayed when we stay committed to our
promises to patients and follow through with appropriate behaviors, such as being on time for visits
and providing patients with all the resources, medications, and equipment that were promised upon
admission (McSteen & Peden–McAlpine, 2006). Integrity is also practiced in hospice by
maintaining patient confidentiality; communicating with physicians who have ordered questionable
treatments; reporting to administrators hazardous or questionable practices; advocating for the

The Theory And Ethics Of Care
Virtue is habit or quality that allows an individual to succeed though a chosen purpose, with the use
of intelligible teleological that accounts to the meaning of human life; which is categorized by the
moral virtues and intellectual virtues. Virtue ethics is known as virtue theory; which is an approach
to ethics that emphasizes an individual's character element through ethical thinking rather than rules
about deontological or consequentialism. It is also said that virtue does not primarily identify
universal principles that can be applied to moral situations, but uses deontological and
consequentialist to identify principles. This theory shows that it is based on an individual rather than
actions issues; it does not only deal with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, but it
provides guidance to sort characteristics and behaviors in the good of an individual who seeks to
achieve rather than fail. Virtual ethics was revived during the Twentieth Century and is composed of
three main directions; which are eudemonism, agent–based theory and ethics of care. Eudemonism
is based on human flourishing of one's distinctive functions to do well. It is a classical formulation
of virtue ethics that shows proper goals of human life to be achieved by a life time of practice in
everyday activities and the use of wisdom to resolve conflict. Agent–based theory is the virtues that
determine common–sense intuitions about characteristic traits that are admirable by other

It argued that memory includes an element of forgetting. It is impossible for us to remember
everything with equal weight. Remembering a unique event, such as the Holocaust, it becomes
linked to a specific narrative that is selective. Giving much emphasis on the Holocaust blocked the
memory of the al Nakba, a particularized memory of the Palestinians. It was not only the destruction
of Palestine, but of the memories and names of Palestine. Maragalit refers to it as a double murder,
to be killed not only in body but in name. Memory is also said to have the possibility to be
institutionalized and influenced by emotions. In the last section, the author used the feminist
argument of the ethics of care. It is to acknowledge the existing boundaries of moral and political

humans are interdependent. Awareness and recognition both the Holocaust and the al Nakba are

Social Care Ethics Essay
Applying care ethics to reproductive tourism appears too optimistic and simple at first glance, but
upon further investigation this approach is reviewed to be capable of yielding the most personal and
effective results when it comes to parents making their decisions to utilize this service. In
comparison to other approaches, this theory views all parties involved in the process of this assisted
reproductive service as humans with equal moral value and emotions; emotions that are ultimately
responsible for the 150% growth of the global surrogacy industry (Parks 334).Written by Jennifer
Parks, the article on care ethics defines this view as one that neither overlooks the importance of
human relationships nor the "infant's right to human care" (335). This perspective is also interesting
in the sense that it employs the social connection model, which is heavily discussed by Anne
Donchin in her article on the same matter. Care ethics incorporates Iris Marion Young's idea of the
social model for the commissioned parents to forge a relationship with the ... Show more content on

Parks realizes that a care ethics perspective makes global surrogacy expensive, rendering it
undesirable from an economic point of view. This revelation is not a problem for care ethics, if it
means the surrogates are to be seen as morally equal to the infants, the commissioned parents, then
Parks has fulfilled her goal. Care is expensive, but this proves to be beneficial to this theory. In an
effort to avoid a false dichotomy, commissioned parents either have to care for their future children
and the surrogates that carry those children, or choose other means of reproductive assistance which
are as expensive. Care ethics makes it possible to illustrate that there are more than economic

Raskolnikov's Ethics Of Care
Ethics of care is a theory that tries to explain actions as right or wrong. Held defines ethics of care as
a well–defined theoretical approach that stands for an alternative to moral theories such as
deontological and utilitarian ethics. She argues that ethics of care focuses more on personal
relationships and communal ties. While bringing in the concepts of cluster of practices and values
into care, she gives a description of a caring person as one who possesses appropriate motivation to
care for others and who partakes adeptly in effective practices of caring (Held, 2006). She goes on to
support the notion of limiting both market provisions for care and the need for legalistic thinking in
ethics, insisting that care ethics possesses superior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His name is derived from the Russian word raskolnik, signifying "dissident" or "isolated," which is
proper since his most principal character attribute is his distance from human culture. His pride and
intellectualism lead him to abhor whatever is left of mankind as fit only to sustain the species.
Interestingly, he trusts that he is a piece of a first class "extraordinary man" hierarchy and can
therefore go against morals for a greater good. On the other hand, that blame that torments him after
he kills Alyona Ivanovna and Lizaveta and his repeating faintness at the notice of the homicides
serve as verification to him that he is not made of the same stuff as a genuine "superman", for
example, Napoleon. In spite of the fact that he thinks about the choice to admit for the vast majority
of the novel and however he appears to be bit by bit to acknowledge the truth of his average quality,
he stays persuaded that the homicide of the pawnbroker was supported. His definitive
acknowledgment that he adores Sonya is the main power sufficiently solid to rise above his imbued
hatred of humankind. Raskolnikov's associations with alternate characters in the novel do much to
light up his identity and comprehension of himself. Despite the fact that he thinks about
Razumikhin, Pulcheria Alexandrovna, and Dunya, Raskolnikov is so made up for lost time in his
distrustful viewpoint that he is regularly unappreciative of their endeavors to help him. He swings to
Sonya as a kindred transgressor of social standards, however he neglects to perceive that her
wrongdoing is vastly different from his: while she genuinely gives up herself for the purpose of
others, he basically carries out his wrongdoing for his purpose alone. At last, his association with

The ethics of care may be a normative moral theory: a theory concerning what makes actions
virtuously right or wrong. It's one amongst a cluster of normative moral theories that were
developed by feminists within the half of the 20th century. Whereas consequentialist and
deontological moral theories emphasize universal standards and non–partisanship, ethics of care
emphasize the importance of response. Ethics of care contrasts with additional well–known moral
views, like consequentialist theories and deontological theories. This kind of outlook is what

The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics
What is Ethics? Let me first define the word "Ethics." Ethics refers to well–founded standards of
right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits
to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal between what is
right or wrong. For a well–mannered individual, it is easy to think first before you act on something.
It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to do or not. We should be
responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can see the diversity on
ethics because of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in beliefs and political
views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let us just try to follow
the golden rule if we can, "do unto others, what you want others to do unto you" "Health Care Ethics
is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices about medical care."
(Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the healthcare team is properly
guided with good principles for them to perform their task and responsibilities. The healthcare team
protects the rights, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its residents. As a healthcare provider, we
must possess the good virtue of honesty, the most important quality we can bring to our job. As the
saying goes, honesty is the best policy. Telling the truth is acceptable when one

The Ethics Of Care Ethics
Care Ethics (Feminist Ethics) is the importance of caring relationships in life whether its human or
animal related. The main goal of care ethics is to maintain and promote caring relationships. Care
ethics involves helping both yourself and the world around you. It gives you the motivation to care
for others beside yourself. Care ethics according to the article is more a "general approach" than a
theory in regards to other ethical practices. The goal of care ethics is to show that women have the
same equal rights as men and that they both have freedoms of their own. This is important as this is
helping to address equality among the human race. Care ethics as a whole revolves around
emotions.
Care ethic believers preach that having emotions helps you to think and feel for others. The goal in
emotions is to "focus on the wants and needs of the one being cared for." They believe through this
they can relate to others in their needs. An example that the article gives is the mother–child
relationship. If a child wants something to eat, the mother of that child knows best what the child
needs. This is due to the "caring motherly nature that mothers have." Also, caring helps to "motivate
us to tend to those, even if we are exhausted, and angry." The difference between care ethics and
utilitarianism is that utilitarian's do not believe that emotions are helping them to choose right or
wrong in any situation. They believe that through calculations, they can

Virtue Ethics And Care Ethics
As various ethical theories continue to be debated, it can be difficult to determine which model
provides the best criteria. However, two theories in particular–virtue ethics and care ethics, have
continued to catch much attention since the mid–twentieth century. Although each of these theories
are often associated with one another, they both contain their own distinct philosophies. As a result,
it is important to clearly understand what each theory entails before concluding that one is derived
from the other. Although virtue ethics and care ethics share similar beliefs and rejections, virtue
ethics is clearly separate from care ethics. Virtue ethics, tracing its roots back to the Middle Ages,
stresses the importance of an individual being virtuous, which comes from developing a virtuous
personal character. It also allows for the possibility of many right choices, since virtuous people can
make choices differently. Aristotle was the only person to come up with a "clear–cut" virtue theory.
He believed that people should be virtuous in order to achieve happiness, or eudaimonia.
Additionally, Aristotle found that in order to become virtuous, a person must know the right thing,
intend the right thing, and have their actions stem from their established character. He also came up
with term "golden mean", which seeks to achieve a balance in one's virtues. For instance, Aristotle
felt that one should find a balance of anger. When seeking a balance of anger, it is

Clearly, the head of the group home wasn't doing his/her job, which is why Randy got beaten up and

that way they don't end up with random people who may or may not offer permanent care. The
foster care system in general puts kids like Randy in a constant cycle of waiting. Waiting for

Ethics Of Care-Giver

  • 1. Ethics Of Care-Giver Ethics of care is to maintain relationships by compromise and accommodation for the well–being of a care–givers and care–receivers in a network of social relations. The meaning of care involves meeting the needs of ourselves and others. Which refers to the ideas of concerning both the nature of morality and normative ethical theory. But does this mean that the care receiver does exactly what the care–giver desires in all situations? What if I keep the money instead of returning it back? Then I wouldn't have to work twenty hours a week. And I will be able to focus in school better because I'm not working as many hours. I know the car dealership owner doesn't need the money because he is an owner of a car dealership and he has more than enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Ethics Of Care And Relativism Ethical System Reflection Everyone has their own system for determining what is right and wrong based on certain principles. This can be categorized as an ethical system, which is defined as "a structured set of principles that defines what is moral" (Pollock, 2015). Ethical systems have a variety of characteristics, which create a blue print to how individuals make critical decisions. The two ethical systems I relate to are, ethics of care and relativism. Ethics of care is an ethical system which focuses on preserving and enriching relationships while also meeting the needs of others (Pollock, 2015). While relativism is an ethical system explains how what is deemed right and wrong changes based on an individual or groups belief (Pollock, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Applying Ethics of Care An example for ethics of care within the justice system is the concept of restorative justice. Restorative justice highlights mending the relationships between an offender and the victim; additionally, it brings the victim and offender together throughout this process (Alberta Government, n.d.). Restorative justice supports ethics of care, as it focuses on the interpersonal relationships versus a punitive approach, which is a key characteristic to this system. Moreover, the offender, victim, and family members are involved in this process, supporting that all parties' needs are considered. A personal example for ethics of care was when I was working at Park Place Mall where there was an individual who was extremely emotionally distraught. This individual was exhibiting behaviours, which are consistent with someone who was going to steal something, and was acting out towards the staff members in that store. I walked up to this individual and began to talk to this person building rapport. After some time, this individual wanted me to pay for their clothing items because they were embarrassed by the situation. I paid for the items, and met them outside the mall, where this individual started explaining how they wanted to commit suicide. Due to these triggers, I stayed with the individual ensuring their safety, while also listening to their story. Once I was confident this individual would not commit suicide, I ... • 5. Care Ethics Case Study Care ethics focuses on the idea "to maintain relationships by contextualizing and promoting the wellbeing of caregivers and care–receivers in a network of social relations"(Staudt, Care Ethics). For example, in a mother–child relationship the mother would be the caregiver and the child would be the care–receiver. Then the roles would switch when the mother would become elderly and the child is grown up. Care ethics is known for being a moral theory from the work of psychologist Carol Gilligan and philosopher Nel Noddings. Gilligan did an experiment called the Heinz dilemma. This is where children are asked whether a man should steal a drug for his dying wife. The boy said he should while the girl said he should not. Gilligan speaking from a male perspective deemed that women did not mature as quick as men did. Noddings rejected this and stated that there is a female perspective to care ethics which worked around relationships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Noddings argued "that caring should be a foundation for ethical decision"(Staudt, Care Ethics). All humans fall under two categories: caregivers or care–receivers. From the beginning we enter that mother child relationship. By being in that caring relationship we want to remain and preserve that relationship. Thus that will be our motivation to be moral in order to remain in the caring relation and to enhance the ideal of ourselves as one–caring (Noddings 1984: 4–5). She also rejected societies universal viewpoints of genders. She claimed that everyone has the right accept, reject or change characteristics about themselves. Noddings believed would actually put limitations on us because we had to be specific characteristics. And if we do not we would not be considered as a "man" or "woman". Although most of her work was from the feminine point of view in some cases it could be applied to men as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

TheTheory of ethics of care, a significant theory applied in our daily life as professionals and individuals. Applying the ethics of care to your nursing practice (Lachman, 2012) This article defines several concepts interrelated to the ethics of care theory. The author starts with the definition of caring, and its relationship with nurses and nursing care (Lachman, 2012). Subsequently, the author continues explaining and gradually defining how this theory has evoluted throughout the years. It is important to mention the analysis presented by the author about moral and caring concepts. How different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Theory Of Feminist Care Ethics A moral theory determines what is right or wrong based off a structured set of statements. There are many different moral theories each obtaining their own set of guidelines for determining whether an action is morally right or wrong. In this paper I consider one objection against feminist care ethics. First I will outline the theory, and then discuss in detail the aspects of the theory that the objection targets. Next I will explain what the objection states. Lastly I will describe why it is a serious problem with the theory. Feminist Care Ethics is a moral theory that is mainly focuses on emotions and caring for those we are responsible for. There are many features within this theory. First, the main focus of feminist care ethics is attending to whom we are responsible for. The theory acknowledges that throughout a lifetime there are times where people will need to be cared for whether it is in their early years or later. Those who are responsible for a person in need of care have an obligation to care for them. For example a mother to her dependent child or a daughter to her ill mother or father (Held, 2006, p. 478–9). Second, what is considered to be moral or immoral should be based off of valued emotions. Valued emotions are sympathy, empathy, sensitivity, and responsiveness. These are valued because they are considered kind and moral. I support this part of the theory because other moral theories rely on reason and rationalistic deductions and calculations in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Nietzsche Care Ethics Analysis Care Ethics, a Nietzschean Response. |It has been argued that the "different voice" Gilligan, Held and Tronto posit in response to ethics may not be as authentic or empowering as it would seem (Paley, 2002; Pukka, 1990). These critiques draw consensus by utilising Friedrich Nietzsche's thoughts in Towards a Genealogy of Morals (1887) to suggest how, in periods of oppression, the underrepresented and disempowered have a tendency to promote morals systems that advocate inferior attributes as exhibiting increased moral capital. In this respect the negative externalities associated with their work can be revalued as a positive, empowering, authentic voice of the oppressed. Following from this idea, the case has been made that care ethics fits the criteria of a salve morality, albeit one that specifically emerged from the consequence of labor divisions enforced by patriarchy (Sander–Staudt, 2001). It is the view of this paper that this claim is erroneous― based on an inaccurate impetus, the proposal of care ethics exhibiting slave morality represents a fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this vein the concern that care ethics may not represent as an authentic and empowering voice as it may suggest is motivated by statistics which expose the vast socioeconomic, sex and ethnic discrepancy between those whom receive and those whom conduct care work and the possibility that care ethics must then present a will to power focused through the concept of ressentiment . That it is the disempowered, marginalised and underrepresented in society whom take on the majority of care aligns to Nietzsche's suggestion that when under coercion, the feelings of the oppressed towards their masters becomes focused on reaffirming the traits and value held endogenously to the oppressed as virtues (Nietzsche, ... • 13. Work Ethics In Care Work ethics in a long term care facility is important because when employed, your co–workers and supervisors need to know that they can count on you to do your job well. Being dependable is a very important work ethic because you have to be at work on the time you were scheduled and you have to be able to keep promises and stay on task. People that are not dependable in a care facility tend to give fewer people care and the quality of the care they are giving tends to suffer. Also when someone is not dependable for showing up on time it takes time away from the patients and residents because someone has to cover for the absent employee. • 15. Nel Noddings Ethics Of Care Please provide a brief background on your career and research. I've always been interested in the intersection of psychology, ethics, and work. Early in my career, after completing an undergraduate degree in psychology and then an MBA with a focus on human resource management, I began teaching and consulting in the areas of executive and organizational development. A turning point for me was while I was teaching a course on business ethics and discussing the 'value' of business with my students. Organizations (for–profit, non–profit, etc.) have such potential to do good in our world – to go beyond simply 'do no harm' to actively providing value to others both within the organization and for society and the natural environment – to contribute ... This book is meant for not only to academics but also practitioners who are searching for ways to have a positive impact on their organizations and beyond. • 23. Define Ethics In Health Care Ethics can be described as being a concept or principle that describes human behavior. The meaning of ethic's is hard to define; people have their own thoughts about what ethics is about. The word ethics often times is a link with law or religion. Both of these have more to do with society standards than one's own behavior. Ethics is based on grounded values of right and wrong that advise what people should do. Moreover, you can relate ethics to fairness or specific virtues. Ethics can also be designated as values that impose the rational responsibilities to refrain from harming, stealing or killing. Ethics is the study of universal values that consist of equality, natural rights, obedience with the concern of health and safety. Additionally, ethics is a study of one's own standards with the development of one's own values and moral beliefs. Ethic's means unremitting struggle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we talk about health care ethics involving patients, it brings upon challenging principles in the health arena. There are four main principles that define the ethical duties within healthcare they are: autonomy, beneficence, non–maleficence and justice. These principles are in effect at all times within the care of the patient in any health care setting. (Health Care Ethics: Overview of the Basics, 2011) The most important of those principles is non–maleficence, which means do no harm. It is the foundation of medical ethics and part of the physician oath. In all situations, a provider should not cause any harm or put a patient in harm's way. The principle of "non–maleficence" entails the purpose of circumventing needless harm or injury that can happen through acts of commission or omission. In simple language, it can be thought of as act of "negligence" if you enact a careless or arbitrary risk of harm upon another. (Runzheimer & Larsen, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Utilitarianism, Virtue And Care Ethics The three ethical theories I will discuss from Chapter 1 include: utilitarianism, virtue and care ethics. First, the utilitarianism is moral standard and a theory of action by humans that are morally right in action. Utilitarianism is an action that is morally right if its consequences are more favorable. One way for businesses', as our reading suggests (Fieser & Moseley, 2012), is make a list of all the good and bad for any particular act. If the good outweighs the bad then that action should occur. If the bad outweighs the good, then the action should stop. Utilitarianism theory attempts to keep things on the positive, happier side of the spectrum. A company using this theory is probably functioning well due to their morale analysis of actions related to safe products, good quality products and customer care, a fair price, and fair and equal treatment to their employees. In addition, because utilitarianism is a morale standard, a company would be environmentally conscious and find ways to help the community and the world. A company would work at making their products in an environmentally safe way, recycle surplus and make their products within the United States to support the economy. A company would also look at balancing goods over harm produced to the environment or people. Lastly, if a company were to be very successful, they should donate some of their proceeds back into the community (environmentally or local community support) or employees (bonuses, ... • 27. Values In Ethics Of Care Values and ethics are vital to any organization, Personal values can be defined as concepts or beliefs about desirable end states or behaviours that transcend specific circumstances, guide selection or evaluation of behavior and events, and are ordered by relative importance (Schwartz and Bilsky, 1987). Values convey what is important to us in our lives. We as individuals hold numerous values with varying degrees of importance. Conflicts between personal and professional values are common. Social workers are often faced with situations that bring them face to face with a conflict between their personal values and professional values. Most professions aim to provide basic ethical rules that professionals apply in decision making. These are usually derived from various traditional ethical theories. Perspectives of the ethics of care does not see ethical dilemma as an abstract problem with only one ethically correct solution which is agreed on by impartial observers and by applying universally accepted principles. Rather, solutions emerge from relationships of mutual care and from the context in which the problems are rooted (Jones et al., 2007). • 31. Virtue Ethics and Ethics of Care Essay Fried Pataters Mr. Hahn Phil 2310 10 May 2010 Virtue Ethics and Ethics of Care Aristotle and Rita Manning both have different theories when it comes to ethics. Aristotle uses virtue ethics to answer questions about morality whereas Manning uses what is called ethics of caring to do the same thing. Virtue ethics claims people's actions aim towards the highest good of happiness. From happiness, moral virtue stems from reasons governing the desires of the soul. Manning on the other hand believes that moral actions extend from people caring for one another on a personal level. By developing the ability to care for others, people become morally aware of how to act in certain situations. When the question of: "how ought I live my life?" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then there are the two extreme ends of the states of character which is superhuman virtue and brutishness. Superhuman virtue is displaying virtuous character in every case including extreme situations. On the opposite end, brutishness is absent of reason and the desires are so morbidly wrong that the actions are morbidly wrong as a result. Aristotle feels people should strive for the superhuman virtue state, yet because being superhumanly virtuous is incredibly difficult, being virtuous or continent is seen as good as well. Rita Manning's approach to ethics is referred to as ethics of caring. She claims that ethics of caring has two elements, the first being disposition to care. Disposition to care "is a willingness to receive others, a willingness to give the lucid attention required to appropriately fill the needs of others" (Manning 477). The disposition deals with a commitment to caring for the needs of others. Manning claims that humans are obligated to care for not only the needs of others, but also what is required for the needs of others. A great example is sending beef to India after a natural disaster. By sending provisions, people are showing they care but they fail to realize that Hindu people do not eat beef. Instead, people should learn more about the people they are helping so that they can send provisions that will do the most good. Therefore, using the Ethics of Care framework, this solution would not allow Mrs. Miller to be responsible, competent or responsive. This article demonstrates specifically the responsiveness deficit in educational systems. Although Ethics of Care is the most appropriate framework to use when assessing this situation, a consequentialist may argue that this could be an acceptable solution because it provides the greater good for the greater amount of people. Mrs. Miller will benefit her entire new class along with her own family by bringing in a larger income. She will be able to provide her experience and knowledge towards her new class who will most likely succeed in school and advance to high–end universities and further provide for her family. Yet, consequentialist solutions do not acknowledge the needs of all stakeholders. The Special Education students will be at a disadvantage in the classroom, because Ms. Smith is not fully prepared to teach them. The decision to have Mrs. Miller teach solely the special education class does not allow her to meet the criteria of all four elements of care. If this solution is chosen, Mrs. Miller cannot guarantee sufficient salary to support her four children on her own. • 35. The Ethics Of Care, And Virtue Ethics I am currently a computer science major and plan on becoming a computer programmer. My love for technology including video games is unique along with my morals. Through the course we covered five moral philosophies which can fit into my life. There is not a perfect moral philosophy, which is why I will be taking bits and parts from the five different one to make one which fits my life style and morals. The five I will be dissecting are, Utilitarianism, Social Contract Theory, Kant, The Ethics of Care, and Virtue Ethics. Utilitarianism is a theory which I can agree with, mostly. I would like to do what makes the majority of people happy, however, it might not always be the correct decision. An example would be people at a workplace each decide to steal five dollars and not tell (no one gets caught), this would make everyone happy but is it really morally correct. It also depends on the outcome, if the consequences outweigh the happiness then the act is not ethical. There are also other factors which can come into play, one scenario about the train going down the tracks. You can save a bunch of people by switching the train to another track, but the person on the other track is someone you love. This one person means more to you than just one unit of happiness which does not follow the rule, everyone's happiness is the same. Our being, in other words, who we truly are, influences our behavior (Arries, 2005). Central to virtue ethics is the concept of integrity. Some manifestations of integrity include honesty, truthfulness and truth telling, benevolence, wisdom, and moral courage (Butts & Rich, 2016). Integrity means being truthful to one's obligations; it focuses on health practitioners as people and their commitment to their patients (Hursthouse & Pettigrove, 2016). In the clinical setting of hospice integrity is displayed by speaking up on behalf of the patient when a patient's wellbeing and quality of care is threatened either by caregivers or other healthcare professionals. There are many other ways that honesty is displayed in a hospice setting such as communicating with patients and families about diagnosis, test results, prognosis, and different options available for treatment and care. Honesty is also displayed when we stay committed to our promises to patients and follow through with appropriate behaviors, such as being on time for visits and providing patients with all the resources, medications, and equipment that were promised upon admission (McSteen & Peden–McAlpine, 2006). Virtue ethics is known as virtue theory; which is an approach to ethics that emphasizes an individual's character element through ethical thinking rather than rules about deontological or consequentialism. It is also said that virtue does not primarily identify universal principles that can be applied to moral situations, but uses deontological and consequentialist to identify principles. This theory shows that it is based on an individual rather than actions issues; it does not only deal with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, but it provides guidance to sort characteristics and behaviors in the good of an individual who seeks to achieve rather than fail. • 71. The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics What is Ethics? Let me first define the word "Ethics." Ethics refers to well–founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal between what is right or wrong. For a well–mannered individual, it is easy to think first before you act on something. It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to do or not. We should be responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can see the diversity on ethics because of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in beliefs and political views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let us just try to follow the golden rule if we can, "do unto others, what you want others to do unto you" "Health Care Ethics is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices about medical care." (Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the healthcare team is properly guided with good principles for them to perform their task and responsibilities. The healthcare team protects the rights, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its residents. As a healthcare provider, we must possess the good virtue of honesty, the most important quality we can bring to our job. As the saying goes, honesty is the best policy. • 73. The Ethics Of Care Ethics Care Ethics (Feminist Ethics) is the importance of caring relationships in life whether its human or animal related. The main goal of care ethics is to maintain and promote caring relationships. Care ethics involves helping both yourself and the world around you. It gives you the motivation to care for others beside yourself. Care ethics according to the article is more a "general approach" than a theory in regards to other ethical practices. The goal of care ethics is to show that women have the same equal rights as men and that they both have freedoms of their own. This is important as this is helping to address equality among the human race. Care ethics as a whole revolves around emotions. Care ethic believers preach that having emotions helps you to think and feel for others. The goal in emotions is to "focus on the wants and needs of the one being cared for." They believe through this they can relate to others in their needs. An example that the article gives is the mother–child relationship. If a child wants something to eat, the mother of that child knows best what the child needs. This is due to the "caring motherly nature that mothers have." Also, caring helps to "motivate us to tend to those, even if we are exhausted, and angry." The difference between care ethics and utilitarianism is that utilitarian's do not believe that emotions are helping them to choose right or wrong in any situation. They believe that through calculations, they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Virtue Ethics And Care Ethics As various ethical theories continue to be debated, it can be difficult to determine which model provides the best criteria. However, two theories in particular–virtue ethics and care ethics, have continued to catch much attention since the mid–twentieth century. Although each of these theories are often associated with one another, they both contain their own distinct philosophies. As a result, it is important to clearly understand what each theory entails before concluding that one is derived from the other. Although virtue ethics and care ethics share similar beliefs and rejections, virtue ethics is clearly separate from care ethics. Virtue ethics, tracing its roots back to the Middle Ages, stresses the importance of an individual being virtuous, which comes from developing a virtuous personal character. It also allows for the possibility of many right choices, since virtuous people can make choices differently. Aristotle was the only person to come up with a "clear–cut" virtue theory. He believed that people should be virtuous in order to achieve happiness, or eudaimonia. Additionally, Aristotle found that in order to become virtuous, a person must know the right thing, intend the right thing, and have their actions stem from their established character. He also came up with term "golden mean", which seeks to achieve a balance in one's virtues. For instance, Aristotle felt that one should find a balance of anger. When seeking a balance of anger, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Foster Care Ethics Hennessy Garcia Humans naturally form their own institutions such as a family, system of government, business, etc.... Institutions/groups are deceiving and get away with a lot. For instance, cigarette companies advertise a product that can cause cancer. However, it seems that no one blames the company for selling it. They will blame the individual for smoking it. It is easier to blame the individual for making terrible choices, but it is ignorant to solely believe that individual is at fault for their personal choices. Even when it comes to morality, people tend to blame individuals for having flawed morals, but groups can influence immoral actions. For example, when someone commits murder or steals it's simple to conclude that they are morally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Groups homes should be more overlooked. A group home should ensure the safety of all members. Clearly, the head of the group home wasn't doing his/her job, which is why Randy got beaten up and nobody didn't do anything to stop it. Another problem with the foster care system is the waiting game to be adopted. The foster care process should look into other members of a child's family, so that way they don't end up with random people who may or may not offer permanent care. The foster care system in general puts kids like Randy in a constant cycle of waiting. Waiting for someone who cares enough to display love and offer a security. Based on Ms. Anna's hospitalization, we see that Randy was quickly out of Anna's care and taken straight into a group home. This isn't fair to Randy because jumping from someone's care to another shows how Randy doesn't have anyone that truly cares for him. If he had a permanent parental figure in his life, he may be loved and his safety would be ensured. Carver offered to care for him and the foster care system denied him. The foster care system failed Randy by not providing him the security, love and the proper care he needs. This affects Randy immensely because, in season five episode six, he is seen pushing a kid down in the group home for being in his way. He was basically chewed by the system and his sensitive nature seems to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
