Hedwig and the Angry is a film based on a musical play written both by John Micthell in 2001. The
tale illustrates a story about a transgender female who leaves East Berlin to follow her love Luther.
Before, Hansel leaves Berlin he has a sex–change operation advised to him by his lover Luther. The
sex operation was suppose to help Hansel pass the woman physical exam to leave the country;
however, the operation fails horribly leaving Hansel with an "Angry Inch". As a result, once they
reach the United States Luther leaves Hansel who is now formally known as Hedwig. After the split
between Hedwig and Luther, Hedwig starts doing babysitting gigs to support her love of music.

Tommy Gnosis formally known as Tommy Speck was the main focus of Mitchell's idea for his
production. As mentioned earlier Tommy Speck was one of the kids that Hedwig met while doing

Suffering In Cormac Mccarthy's Blood Meridian
There is a horde of explanations pertaining to the epilogue of Blood Meridian. The short passage has
sparked ideas of the idealistic human nature of suffering, the search for enlightenment through
Gnosticism, and the subtle persuasion that lies beneath eloquent language, both in Judge Holden's
claims and Cormac McCarthy's narration. It is important, before delving into these ideas, that the
passage is recounted.

Well, I am exaggerating a bit, but certainly the arts were not in the same league as farming and
preaching. When my father–in–law evaluated a story or a film, he wanted to know whether it was
"true" or not. Fiction lowered it to an inferior level of truth.
Why the Mennonite mistrust of the arts? I believe that it can be traced to our traditional belief in
conformity to the community and non–conformity to the world. The strong emphasis on conformity
put certain restraints on the imagination; remaining non–conformed to the world meant that one
could not emulate or profit from non–Mennonite artists. So unless the arts were used directly to
support our faith and the values of the community (such as congregational music, quilting,
preaching, etc.)., they tended to be seen as frivolous or downright dangerous. One should not
ridicule that argument; if the arts truly have the power to move us and if the best come from the
outside world, it is only logical that the Amish–Mennonite culture would take steps to protect itself.
So when Sidney tries to change the mind of his Puritan critics, his strongest argument is based upon

As said in the National Geographic documentary The Gospel of Judas, the Gospel of Judas was
discovered in 1978 by a farmer searching for valuables among ancient Egyptian burial chambers.
The papyrus book had been stored in a stone box within the chambers, presumably not having seen
daylight since its original storage. Some portions are missing from the text, but there is more than
enough surviving papyrus to translate and get an idea of the theology found within its pages. The
book presents a strange belief system, and brings in a number of elements that point to a strong basis
in Gnosticism. It also stands as an indication of just how diverse early Christianity truly was.

understanding of seeking God through gnosis or "secret knowledge". The many interpretations that
display the definition of Gnosticism makes it unclear on which one is actually the correct one. In

aeons and the high creator are placed with each other to form realms in "The Secret Book According

Genesis only with the creations in more specific and complex details. However, through both
explanations of each book, Gnosticism does not comprise of just one true belief, but many beliefs

My visit to the Gnostic church was quite an interesting experience. When I arrived there one of the
first things I discovered was that it was inside a Masonic Temple of the York Rite, inside on the floor
there was a Square and Compass symbol. When I walked inside where the Mass was taking place,
there was potent incense burning all around the room and a Divine Liturgy in the background. The
priest was wearing an all black robe and wearing a silver necklace with the sign of the cross. Up on

How many Americans believe in some type of God? A poll taken in 2013, showed that 74% of U.S.
adults claim to believe there is a God. In past years, that percentage has been in the 80's (Jones).
This could mean that people are taking other beliefs, such as agnosticism, into consideration. An
agnostic is described as "a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the
existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither
faith nor disbelief in God" (OED). This word stems from the Ancient Greek words "chorís gnosis"
or without meaning (OED). Early Christians use gnosis for the term "spiritual knowledge" (Antony).
Thomas L. Huxley made agnosticism more known and accepted, starting in 1869. Though many
people before Huxley used this word, he is the reason it is known well today. Sanjaya Belatthaputta,
an Indian philosopher, wrote about agnosticism and afterlife. At first, in Greece, agnosticism was
known as a formal philosophical position. Pyrrho said, "No judgement as we can never know the
true reality. Opinion is possible, knowledge is not" (Pyrrho). "Concerning the gods, I have no means
of knowing whether they exist or not or of what sort they may be. Many things prevent knowledge
including the obscurity of the subject and the brevity of human life" (Protagoras). There has always

One of the main struggles in the film Hedwig and the Angry Inch (John Cameron Mitchell, 2001) is
the question of gender and identity, a problem that is constantly addressed by the film's main
character Hedwig. However, other characters question this as well, for example Yitzhak, Hedwig's
husband and bandmate. Portrayed by female actor Miriam Shor, Yitzhak displays male behavior
throughout most of the movie, setting a counter–pole to Hedwig's persona, especially since both

practised the poetics and the theory of the literary history process in the area of teaching (seminars
