Evaluation 2
How effective is the combine of your main product and ancillary
products?
Cross Media Platforms
My short film is represented through a
film itself and I have also included two
ancillary tasks which are a poster for
my short film and a magazine article
which includes an interview with my
main actress.
This combination of products has
increases awareness and
recognisability of my film as I have
used the same location, costumes and
actress in both ancillary task as the
short film. This will work synergy with
each other to create something bigger.
Brand Identity- Typography
I created a brand identity by using the
ancillary tasks. I used the same and similar
fonts on the ancillary task as the short film
credits and I used the same pictures with my
actress in the same costume and location as
the film. This is important as it helps films
establish an easily regconisgable identify for
the audience.
I used a bold font for the title of the
magazine article as I wanted it to stand out
against the rest of the text. I used a catching
pun for the title to draw the readers in.
I think that typography is really important
feature for the selling of a product as fonts
can become the reconisable feature of a film
such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.
Photo Synergy
I have further created synergy through
images so that the audience can
identify my film, my character and draw
in my target audience. It can also
associate the different media products
with a single product film.
I used images of my protagonist
looking up hopeful in a dance position
for my front cover of my poster. She
has minimal makeup on and her hair is
in a bun, showing she is a dancers.
These pictures help identify to the
audience what kind of short film it is
and draws in my target audience.
Challenges
When creating my short film, I did come across
some challenges on the way, however, I was quickly
able to adapt and resolve them. For example, whilst
in the editing stages, I realised that I had used
copyright for the two soundtracks in my short film
which weren’t allowed. I therefore, got my friend to
record the song Helium with professional sound
equipment. This was really successful and sounded
really good. I also used bensound for the
background music which plays in the throughout my
video. I chose a slow and mellow soundtrack which
goes with my genre of the film well.
