2. What is Epoc?????
Is a Chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease. It affects the respiratory
system

4. Epidemiology
1.In Spain it is estimated a prevalence of 9%
between 40 and 69 years
2.It causes the death of at least 2.9 million people
per year in the world. According to WHO, about
210 million people in the world suffer from EPOC
3.Represents the 4th cause of death and is
estimated to become third in 2020

5. Causes
1. Smoke is a principal cause. Pipe, cigar, and other tobacco
smoke can also cause EPOC, if you breathe the smoke.

1.Increased breathlessness
2.Frequent coughing (with and without sputum)

9. Diagnosis
• Spirometry: Consists of a series of simple respiratory tests,
under controlled circumstances, that measure the absolute
magnitude of lung capacities and lung volumes
• Gasometry: Test by blood analysis to know the amount of
oxygen and Co2 in the blood
• Determination de alfa 1 antitripsina:
Is a protein that is produced in the liver. Its main function is to
protect the lung
