2. Friendly Fires are a band which I would
associate with 17 to 20 year old male
and females. Classed under the indie
rock genre I think this advertisement is
suitable in selling the band.
As a band is a ‘product’ to a record
company, it is important that they are
represented as attractive and easy to
look at, so that they can sell the
product (the band). This ad does this
very well through the connotations. The
connotations created from the location
suggest the album is light hearted and
easy listening.
The text ‘The Mercury Prize Nominated
Album’ is a key aspect as to why this
advertisement is enticing. A prestigious
achievement like this is a major selling
point to many music enthusiasts.
3. Band Of Skulls are band which have a fairly wider target audience than Friendly Fires. Classed
under the ‘blues rock’ genre I would associate Band Of Skulls with an audience ranging from
17 to 30. I have stretched it to 30 because it mentions that a 7” vinyl is also available, which
you would associate with an older audience. In this advertisement the band aren’t shown – as
a band is a product I think it’s better to have them in it – or, a recognisable logo.
There is positives which I can draw from this. The image of fire makes you remember the
actual name of the single – which I think is very effective in selling the band.
4. Blink-182 are a band classed under the alternative
rock genre. You would associate them with both
male and females from 16 to 35. My reason for the
wide age range is because the band have been
together for over 20 years now and would of
developed a following since the start.
Compared to the two other analysed
advertisements this one is much more concise.
Which I think is good in a advertisement. Straight
away we can see the album cover, album name,
band name, and the release date. This short, and
snappy approach to an advertisement I feel, is
very effective as it’s so easy to remember.
There is also the band’s recognisable logo which
immediately tells the audience who it is.
However, there is negatives which I can draw out.
The whole layout seems a bit messy, and there is
a lot of blank space. Whether this is deliberate to
give the band a more laid back and rock star
image I don’t know but either way I think the blank
space should be filled up, as it could appear
boring to some people.
