2. Why are Magazine Adverts Important?
Magazine adverts are essential to artists and bands to promote their singles and
albums. They have become extremely important in terms of synergy to promote
products from the band/artist.
The main features of a magazine include:
● An image of the artist/band (usually a still from the music video so fans are
able to recognise the artist/band.
● Key Information such as release Dates
● Album Cover
● Ratings from magazines of the song/album

3. Jessie J ‘Who You Are’
This Magazine advert for Jessie J’s album is mostly
taken up by the image of Jessie . This catches
people's attention and drawing them in straight to the
artist. The would instantly recognise Jessie in the
magazine advert.
Large texts with Jessie J’s name in Gold. This
contrasts the black of the outfit she i wearing making
the font stand out. The silver is used to for the
albums name as well as the the hit single ‘Price Tag’.
The magazine advert also has Jessie J’s official
website. Most magazine adverts will feature a
website ffor the artist or band, so they are able to
follow them online and gain more information.

4. Mumford & Sons ‘SIGH NO MORE’’
Each band member is
shown holding an
instrument which is one of
the conventions of a music
video. It also shows that
they are an acoustic band. It
also a key convention of
being in a band as they all
have specific roles to play.
The ad is taken up by four
equal squares of each band
member, showing how they
all play an equal importance
in the band.
NME is a well known and largely
valued music magazine. Therefore,
having their quote as the first text
which isn't the artist/album name
will attract the audience attention.
Also, the fact that it is a positive
review from NME will reflect well on
Mumford & Sons. Majority of
magazine have reviews on their
adverts to influence audiences to
purchase them due to the fact that
they have been given positive
feedback.
The band and album name is written at the
top of the magazine ad so it stands out from
the rest of the text.

5. Lana Del Rey
In this magazine advert we can
automatically recognise the artist as
Lana Del Rey, as she covers the
magazine advert from top to bottom.
This makes her stand out immediately
when we look at the magazine.
Her name is in capitals and well
as being highlighted being in
bold. The use of a white colour
contrasts the blue of the sky
attracting the audiences eye. It is
also at the top of the magazine
advert making it one of the first
things we see.
We also have the release date of
the album which is important to
information so people know when
to buy it. The magazine advert also
includes the names of three
number one songs thats are
included in the album. At the
bottom there is “Amazon’ logo.
this lets people know that the
album will be available at Amazon
but there is also Lana Del Reys
official website where fans can go
to get more information.
On the advert we also see the title of
the album ‘Born To Die’ apart from
the artists name it is the second
largest font. This highlights its
importance to her fans. Being placed
in the centre makes it clear to see
when when fans or the general
public see the magazine advert in
the streets.
