Shadow Of The Colossi Essay
You take control of a young man called Wander who has brought the body of young women called
Mono to a temple situated in the forbidden lands. Wander is seeking an entity called Dormin who
possess the ability to bring back her soul from the dead. The Dormin agree to Wander's request on
the condition that he destroys the 16 Colossi that are holding the Dormin captive. Wander agrees to
the request and so begins his journey across the forbidden lands.
To find the Colossi, you need to raise your sword above your head while in a sunlit area which
reflects the light pointing you in the right direction. From there you can hop on your horse Agro and
gallop to each location. Consequently, although Shadow of the Colossus is an open–world game,
aside from the Colossi and a few lizards you can eat to gain stamina, there is nothing in the world to
interact with. Essentially you're tasked with 16 individually boss fights.
Gameplay
Upon meeting the first few Colosi, each of them invokes a sense of fear predominantly due to their
imposing demeanour. All of these massive hulking beasts, are covered in fur and stone, which you'll
use to mount and then climb to find their specific weak spots. By thrusting your mythical sword into
these vulnerable areas, the Colosi will gradually weaken until their health completely deteriorates

More often than not, the camera will work against you as you try to correct it with the right
analogue stick only for it to auto 'correct' itself, changing the direction you want it to point in. This
is my main gripe with Shadow of the Colossus and has been an issue with the game since its first
release in 2005. Although it's not enough of a hindrance to spoil the overall enjoyment you'll have
with this latest incarnation, it would have been nice had the developers finally addressed this

What Is The Story Of A Short Story
It was like any other day for me,birds were chirping, grass was growing and shadows were
vandalizing property and wreaking havoc on the world.(22.) How all of this monstrosity happened is
a long story so pull up a chair and listen.I'm Jack Jone and I was at a friend's birthday party for a
friend whose name I can't say because he will be hunted down by the shadows. We had just finished
the cake and had just started playing hide and seek. The birthday boy was the seeker and I was the
hider(1.)."You should count to 10 and count very slowly," I told him and he soon starts counting
aloud"1,2,3....." He counted. He was counting fast not slowly but that didn't matter to the others,
they were as fast as ninjas in the dead of night. I try to hide with one of them but she kicks me out of
her hiding spot."4,5,6....." he still was counting down and I had to find a hiding spot quick"the forest
is a really good spot" I thought to myself.I ran into the forest so fast all I heard as I was running was
the fading sound of him counting"7,8,9,10 ready or not here I come" and hearing the screams of
children being found and me as the kid always wanting to win ran farther and faster into the forest
until I tripped on a root of a tree and phased through the ground into a hallowed cave."SPLASH!!!"
that was the sound I made when I landed on the water and the feeling of my body being slammed on
water made my back feel like I broke my spine but with little energy and drowning because not

Analysis Of The Book ' The Shadow Snatchers '
After the storm was over, a group of dissatisfied kids had gotten together to discuss the weather.
They wanted the weather to be as other cities. James the librarian son told the group about a story
his grandfather told him many times during bedtime. His grandfather shared a story about a mystical
legend of people called the "Shadow Snatchers". The Shadow Snatchers were a mythical tribe that
believed in the ritual of snatching children shadows. The Priest would catch a child sleeping and
cast a spell to steal their shadow. The kids thought the story was amusing. James told them about a
book in the library that tells the story about the Shadow Snatchers. Cindy who mother was the town
mayor suggested they should get the book and read more about the story. As Cindy was finishing
her remarks, Paul who played on the school football team hollered out and said, that is the answer.
Every body looked at Paul with curiosity. Isabel who mother worked for the mayor, said, "what is
the answer?" Paul told them the planned he thought about. Paul shared with them that they should
steal the ground hog shadow so no more prediction can be made. With the ground hog shadow
missing, they can have an early spring and more fun during the warm weather. Isabel said to Paul
that is the dumbest ideal we ever heard of from you. Our parents would kill us doing something like
that besides it is only a legend. James said, no it is true my grandfather swear to me before his death.
The children decided

Shadow of the Night
Shadow of the Night
On a freezing, dark blue night of Li, in the Village of Li–Marta. This was an old little village, the
houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor
boards and a rotten wooden roof.
In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full
of holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren–Rye.
As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his
mother told him, "be strong like an ox!" Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north came
to torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai's way of terrifying the
villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then Rye's mother said
"hide, son! Hide in the rafters!" from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors explode into a
shower of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away.
Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or
reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork.
Rye had woken up from that dreadful nightmare, he was now somewhere unfamiliar a dark, dark
place, where there was no light. It was the spirit realm of Gahem a quiet but deadly realm to stay in.
Suddenly out of the darkness a shadow appeared the shadow had black clothing and a dark purple
hood, this

The Fear Of Fear : Fear And Fear
Fear is an unpleasant feeling which is caused by the awareness of danger according to me. It is
something that everyone has to manage no matter what; fear will be fear. Our lives are significantly
formed by fears. We cannot escape from the experience of fear and pain. Everyone has their own
fears but no matter how people look at it, they all overcome their apprehensions. People have
different types of phobias. They are afraid of water, spiders, ghosts, etc. Even I am scared about
such things. You know how there's always that one kid who's always terrified of something? Always
jumping at the next unsuspecting sound? He is even afraid of his own shadow? Well, I was one of
those kids. When I was 10 I had a nightmare. I saw that something was ... Show more content on

Who, or what, could have done something like this? I could feel the distinct sensation that I was
being watched. There was this person who did not look into my eyes but kept repeating "Red eyes...
Red eyes..." And then, there it was. Those two bright red eyes that I had seen just that very evening.
I sat in my car; the whole way home I found myself constantly checking my rearview mirror. No
matter how fast I drove, the feeling of being watched never quite went away. When I got home,
Shadow was not there to greet me at the door as she always had. The house was silent and dark. I
may have felt relief if it were not for the dreadful feeling in my heart. Then, right before my eyes,
the shadow of a lady appeared. It did not look like the dark figure I had seen before. In fact, the
shadow was my own. It was silhouetted against a bright red light.
Oh God! This was the worst nightmare I've ever had and vividly recalled. The worst part was the
terror with the red eyes I always saw in that one nightmare. I used to often wake up crying and
drenched in sweat for few months. I always got the same feelings of dread and fear whenever I was
alone. The thought of someone following me, who had red eyes was constantly knocking my head
and I just was not able to concentrate on some important things. I was always conscious of what my
surroundings were or what they would become. I would examine the environment literally every
fifteen minutes, just couldn't stop thinking about it.

My Personality Is A Far Away Cave
My personality is a far away cave. The mouth of this cave is blocked by several massive rocks; each
covered with a smooth and gentle exterior, but deeply rooted into the concrete. It makes it nearly
impossible for anyone to enter. In addition to these rocks, there are long thick chains surrounding
the opening of this cave which makes the thought of entering a laborious feat. When looking at the
cave from the outside, you will perceive it as rough or scary. Although, if you find yourself to be an
ambitious soul, attempting to enter the unknown, you will encounter things you would have never
thought belonged in such a cave. The first thing you will notice is its beautiful living room
decorated with such lively coloured furniture. The bright neon colours of the couch will make you
feel warm and welcomed, and the yellow painted walls will make you feel like the sun never sets.
The aura of the room will make you wish you could stay in it forever. This cave is no ordinary cave,
it is a cave home, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps a wild bear sleeping his days away, or bats hibernating as they wait for the winter to end.
One might be surprised to find that it is in fact my personality which is hidden behind these rocky
walls; an amiable creature that means no harm. Although I am the only one who is capable of
unlocking these chains and removing the rocks that keep people from entering, I sometimes lock
myself out for days on end. I often cannot remember where I last placed the keys to unlock the
chains, and other times I misplace them purposefully. This better allows me to meditate and purify
my thoughts before entering my home, which makes my cave impenetrable to any form of
negativity. Subconsciously, I know that these chains are blocking my true personality from entering
into the real world, yet I have kept them on for so long and continue to do so. One day, I'll let others

Symbols and Symbolism in A Clean Well-Lighted Place, By...
Symbolism in A Clean Well–Lighted Place
Symbolism, may be defined as a non–superficial representation of an idea or belief that goes beyond
what is "seen." Earnest Hemingway's "A Clean Well–Lighted Place" uses symbolism to help convey
the theme of Nihilism, the philosophy that there is nothing heavenly to believe in. It discusses that
there is no supernatural reason or explanation of how the world is today. Three symbols: the soldier,
the café, and the shadows of the leaves, found in Hemingway's short story clearly displays this
Nihilistic theme.
The first clear display of Nihilism by the use of symbols is the brief passage description of the
soldier passing the café with the prostitute. This imagery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The light is supposed to let the reader see that the guard is corrupt when he should be a loyal and an
example to the community.
Hemingway's second portrayal of symbolism that a reader may distinguish is the café itself. The
café represents a sanctuary of the evilness of the world. The namesake of the short story is a clue for
the reader to see that the café would represent some form of an asylum not only from the elements
of nature, but also safety from evil. An example of the usefulness of this sanctuary is how the deaf
old man uses the café as a safe–haven to be to himself after the incident where he almost succeeded
in committing suicide and enjoys the comfort the café gives. The old waiter represents in the café
the kindness and caring that the café should provide; whereas the younger waiter is more of a
materialistic character. He clearly displays shallowness and selfishness. Arthur Waldhorn writes that
the older waiter helps keep the light on a little longer at the café for those, who like himself, 'do not
want to go to bed.' (P 28) The younger waiter is a protagonist in attitude of the older waiter. The
philosophy of Nihilism is brought into this theme when the older man recites the Lord's Prayer but
substitutes the word "nada" for every noun in it. Nihilism is brought onto a larger scale because it is
very evident that there is nothing to believe in, even as a

Shadow Essay
For this assignment I chose to shadow my mother, Gidget Wray. Gidget is the owner of Hip Hip
HooWray Events and Designs. This business consists of a variety of wood designs which are
sketched and painted to the customers satisfaction. A typical day in the studio begins with scheduled
and unscheduled events, such as private parties, Open Studio, and offsite events. Choosing to
shadow my mother was an easy decision because of how dedicated she is to her business. During
my time shadowing her, I was able to evaluate how she handles difficult situations in the studio and
works through them to ensure the studio will run smoothly throughout the day. A typical day at the

There are rarely any complications at the studio because she is always there, but this results in the
loss of family time. There have been Saturday's when I have had a softball tournament and my
Mother was not able to go, because the studio was going to be busy and she had to be there for the
day to run on schedule. Running the studio comes with many complications. On a daily basis there
are problems to be solved. How Gidget handles these problems are very impressive. In the end the
customer is always pleased. When a customer is unhappy, for me it would very hard to figure out a
way to please them and not have a problem with the studio still running on schedule, but for my
Mother it is no problem. I think it is easy for my Mother to please a customer in a tough situation
because she has always told me "It is never too late to be nice to someone." This quote to me means
that no matter how upset that customer is you can always figure out a way to please them. My
experience really helped me understand the quote from Atticus Finch "You never really understand a
person until you consider things from his point of view–until you climb into his skin and walk
around in it." When I first read the quote I thought I understood it, but after spending this time with
her discussing and evaluating the way she thinks and works, it dawned on me how hard it was the be

Effect Of Candle Light On Candles
Today, I will be testing the effect of candle light in a room that has no other light sources. While
doing this I will observing the effect of low light on cast shadows as well as the effect of candle
light on walls. In addition, I be observing the shift in the intensity of light when adding two candles
and later three candles. Before this I will be describing the candle in order to make sense of some of
my observation in relation to the color of the candle and how that effects the light it emits. The
candle itself gives of an intense fragrance of apple cinnamon in tandem with its rich color of deep
red, it is placed in a glass container that is similar in size to a 8 ounce glass. For this exercise I have
chosen to place the candle on the ground in a dark corner of the hallway. The space has various
objects lining the walls, and a few items on the floor as well. The color of the walls are a lemon
yellow and in the darkness its color is faint and is more reminiscent of a gray. I place the candle on
the ground and it creates a immediate ring of light around its self, the color of the light contains a
tint of red and the effect is creating a halo around the candle. Although, surrounding the candle's
ring of light, a darker tone represents the shadow of the candle itself. This initial ring of light on the
ground creates the sense of movement in the candlelight by moving in an out mimicking, a camera
lens opening and closing. Looking around the room, I notice the candle light

Outdoor Stage, France by artist Everett Shinn is 24 ¾ in. by 21 ½ in., or approximately 2 ft. high by
1 ¾ ft. wide. The painting is not imposing on the gallery floor, and has only a few feet of space on
either side between two other paintings. The painting is on canvas, and is framed in a thick, gold
frame with no glass. The media is oil paints, and the lighting in the gallery is such that there are no
reflections in the paint when viewing from different angles. The subject matter of the painting is that
of an outdoor stage performance, with a woman onstage, and three men and one woman in the
audience. The performer and the stage are the background of the painting, while the men compose
the middle ground in the first and second row of the audience, ... Show more content on

I also chose the first piece because of the almost off–putting gaze of the woman in the audience
towards the viewer – I wanted to describe the expression she had, and the expression of the
performer looking down at her. I chose the second piece, Fog over San Quentin State Prison, San
Quentin, California by artist Sandow Birk, because of the use of light in the painting, and because of
the subject matter – the beautiful scenery of the Bay, with a highly populated prison almost just out
of sight behind the fog. I felt that this was a good example of atmospheric perspective and wanted to
expand my understanding of it by studying it. The pieces both relied on light techniques to make up
the composition; Shinn's work heavily utilized chiaroscuro, and Birk's artwork relied on
atmospheric perspective. In contrast with my last formal analysis, liked both paintings I decided to
write about – I did this intentionally because I wanted to expand my formal analysis skills by
writing about pieces I felt an emotional connection to, to see if I could ignore my feelings and
concentrate on just the content. This time around, I felt like I had taken enough notes, and I wasn't
straining my memory to recall major details about the painting, however,

Exposition
A friend, who I had once argued with beforehand, said to me, "Whatever happens, will happen, in
the case, that is just the way life goes." Even though I felt as if I should thrive by his saying, I could
not, not now, and not anymore. It was rainy today, skies were gray, and the atmosphere was foggy.
Although I never notice the weather, I did, especially today, as I drive alone to school in the comfort
of my warm car. The road was empty, and so, my mind distracted itself towards my dashboard.
There lay my license, which I had received a month after my friend's passing. Under that smile was
the grief and nonacceptance of the past occurrence which had taken his life over the year before.
Today was the day, today had been the year anniversary since his tragic death. Looking back on the
road, I could not help let a tear fall from my eye, which then led to an overflow of tears. After all
this time, I thought I was okay, that I finally gained that acceptance, I guess I had not. The school
was loud, and cheerful as the school celebrated homecoming week which was upon them. Despite
the uproar of triumph, classes still remained present throughout the day. Even though the class was
bright with smiles, and loud voices, I sat in the back silently on the computer working on class
assignments. The teacher made a deal, in which she made a compromise with the class. The teacher
suggested that if she played videos on homecoming for the class to watch, that they would settle
down. It grew quiet, but likewise, they agreed abruptly without reconsideration. As the video
rendered, an advertisement was shown before the film, which had a man sitting in a room filled with
white. The video ended with him opening his eyes, and also, presenting his product. The product
being sold was a book, which was labeled with big text, "Complete guide to Lucid Dreaming." The
advertisement looked intriguing to me, something in my head was telling me to order the book,
maybe it was my curiosity. The class grew yelled impatiently, "Skip the ad, let us watch the video!"
The advertisement had intrigued me, and I glared at the class for suggesting that they should click
off of it, which soon after they did. Reaching into my pocket, I

Pros And Cons Of Installing Residential Sprinklers
You asked the following question: In an apartment building dwelling units that are sprinklered per
NFPA 13, and where furdown ceilings or lintels create sprinkler spray obstructions to a shower stall
or bathtub, is it the intent of code to require additional sprinklers in the bathroom above a shower or

Shadow Reflection
The student I chose to follow for a shadow study is a junior girl who has been very open in class
about expressing her opinion. The student is in my cooperating teacher's Basic Geometry class
during second block. I picked this particular student because my cooperating teacher told me a story
about how last year this student yelled at a substitute teacher while he was absent and walked out of
class. Also, I have seen how this student interacts with her peers in my cooperating teacher's
classroom. I found it interesting to see how the other teachers work with her. This will give me an
insight on how to structure the class when I teach. I also have this student's younger sister in
Algebra I. She is a freshman, and I never would have guessed that they were sisters until she told
me. The schedule is a block schedule, so each class is ninety minutes except seminar at the end of
the day, which is thirty minutes. Since seminar is a study hall, I decided not to shadow her during
that class.
I attempted to shadow this student on a white day because she has my cooperating teacher's class. I
showed up to the student's first block on Tuesday. The teacher informed me that the student usually
shows up early to class, but neither of us had seen her. When the bell rang, I decided to stay and see
if she showed up. I was informed that she was marked absent. That day in Communications, the
students were to have a reading day, which means that the whole ninety–minute class the students

The Empty City
There is a city where the sun and the moon neither rise nor set a city of perpetual twilight. Where
there is no good or bad, no right or wrong. Everything is based on perspective in this ephemeral city.
This city has no people, only shadows. Shades of former denizens who lost their dreams but not
their hearts, a stagnate state of being alive but not living. This was the empty city. He was a lonely
soul, new to this city devoid of life. Lucien had no memories of the past and no direction to move on

thick build to him. His eyes held a cold steely gaze that would show he was no stranger to a good
fight as well as he how disconnected from people he really was. The boy had shaggy brown hair and
equally as brown eyes. They were dark, not only in color but as well as in there was untold
mysteries and an even more mysterious aura about him. He was tan but that fact was hidden under
the torn cloak and dirty clothes he donned. He was complacent, confused. A strange sense of
familiarity crept into the boy's body. This reminded him of the place he saw when he slept, a
reoccurring nightmare that he couldn't escape. The air was stale here and the only light that shone
into the city came from the dull sun and an even duller moon that both just hung lifeless in the sky.
That's when the boy noticed a swift movement under his feet. As he turned to look at his feet, he

Summary Of In Praise Of Shadows
Throughout author Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's In "Praise of Shadows", he expresses his firm belief that
simplicity and contrast – common Japanese values – have immense beauty, even as these elements
become less common in a changing society. As the world around him shifts away from these values,
and more towards values of innovation and uniformity, he feels Japanese traditions deserve to
remain appreciated and understood. As a result, Tanizaki utilizes "shadows" to represent not only
literal shadows but also the various traditions in Japanese culture that are becoming more
underappreciated, as time goes on. Similarly to shadows, these Japanese customs seem to go
unnoticed and are no longer a significant aspect of everyday life. Tanizaki's use of metaphors and
repetition throughout "In Praise of Shadows" help to exemplify his high gratitude of traditional
Japanese Culture. For many portions of the essay, Tanizaki is praising the beauty of shadows within
the world around him. This is quite prevalent in the section about gold. Although he speaks often
about how he doesn't enjoy the beauty of lustrous metals that shine aggressively, Tanizaki has a
differing opinion when it comes to gold. He beckons, "And surely you have seen, in the darkness of
innermost rooms... how gold leaf... will pick up a distant glimmer..."(22). In this certain lighting he
feels the shine of gold is not aggressive, rather inviting; absorbing light in beautiful ways that seem
almost impossible. Tanizaki

Shadow Vs. The Sun: The Treasure Of The Sun
Shadow often does small coin tricks throughout the novel, but there are two coins in particular that
take on greater significance. His gold coin symbolizes the sun, while his silver coin symbolizes the
moon. Taking literally the idea that these heavenly bodies "watch over" the earth, both these coins
offer protection in different ways. Together, they represent the importance of balance and duality,
gold and silver, life and death, the sun and the moon.
The gold coin that Shadow takes from the "treasure of the sun" is supposed to belong only to the

hoard. As well as connecting Shadow to his true nature as the sun god Baldur of Norse mythology,

In the novel, In the Skin of a Lion, Michael Ondaatje uses the motif of chiaroscuro, or the
relationship between light and shadow, to illustrate the themes of remembering and forgetting. A
motif is a narrative element that reoccurs throughout a narrative, an idea that has a symbolic
meaning. As described by H. Porter Abbott, it is not abstract but a concrete idea, which moulds the
theme of a literary work. The concept of chiaroscuro, or shadow play, originally comes from
painting, and is used to characterize works in which the darkness strongly contrasts with the light. In

workers were sacrificed for development. No one remembers their contributions except for their
closest family members.
Despite the country shadows such as the death of Patrick's father, a clear contrast is drawn between
light and shadow in urban versus countryside environments. Patrick is seen reminiscing about his
father and recalls the "old skill he learned from his father... in the sunlight, in rivers" (p. 107). He
contrasts his current work in the dark tunnels, the "terrible place where he feels banished from the
world" (pg. 107), to the outdoor logging work he did in his hometown, contrasting the positive
sunlit memories of his childhood with his darker struggles,

Mise En Scene In Charlie Newton's Shadow Of A Doubt
In the 1943 film Shadow of a Doubt, Charlie Newton soon has her world altered as she discovers
the dark secrets of her Uncle Charlie's past. Feeling a special connection with her Uncle, Charlie
eagerly wishes to discover more about him at first and innocently becomes involved in hiding his
identity as a serial killer. As the film builds up the mystery behind Uncle Charlie and his true
intentions, the Mise En Scene creates an environment which explores the Uncle's darker motivations
while also supporting the unsuspecting point of view of Charlie. Elements of mise en scene such as
lighting, space, and composition continue to build this environment in the film, even when the roles
between Charlie and her Uncle change. Before Charlie suspects any dark past behind her Uncle, she
first playfully teases her plan to find out his secrets but goes too far. In this scene, canted
cinematography shows Charlie first knock on the door to her Uncles room in a hallway cast in large
shadows of the bannisters. By pairing both the cinematography and lighting in this first establishing
shot, a dark ominous is introduced and continued through the rest of the scene. Then, Charlie enters
the room from an internal shot placed behind her Uncle, putting the viewer both in Uncle Charlies
perspective and casting him with heavy shadows from the right of the frame. Charlie is well lit from
the opposite end of the room, a medium shot showing her full playful expression as she discovers
her Uncle has

Reflection Of Shadow Casting
The Holter Museum, in Helena, MT, is currently displaying a series of work by John Saurer. Saurer
received his BA at Hope College in sculpture and drawing, he continued to earn his MFA at
Colorado State University in sculpture, and has been teaching art at St. Olaf College since 1995
(Saurer). His current exhibit is called Across Tender Land and was inspired by Saurer's surroundings
while growing up (Shadow Casting). On piece, in particular, caught my eye. His Shadow Casting
sculpture is around 75 pieces of welded steel and charred wood composed into different shapes
mounted on a wall. When I first saw this piece, I found it interesting, but as I got closer, sensored
lights came on and caused each piece to cast a shadow on the wall behind the sculpture. This piece
of art reminded me the incense burner that has been discussed in our book (Stokstad, 4–13). I was
reminded of the incense burner that was found in Prince Liu Sheng's tomb in China. Each piece was
created to be viewed with the help of an other medium; smoke and light. Shadow Casting becomes
much more aesthetically pleasing when the light casts the shadow, just as the incense burner
becomes more aesthetically pleasing when it is viewed with smoke swirling around the mountain
peaks. As I was looking at Shadow Casting, the first piece of art that came to mind was the incense
burner because of the special way each is viewed. As I continued to think about both pieces I
released they were, by majority, different, but

Creative Writing: Shadows On The Sidewalk
Shadows on the Sidewalk
Dr. Owens tells me it's called Sciophobia. He says I'm afraid of shadows. But they're not just
shadows, and no one, no one believes me. Everyone just always accepts the fact that shadows are
there, casted when light is draped over an object. Darkness, that's what they truly are. Infinite
darkness. They are the demons we are born with; they follow us from birth to death. My shadow is
always there, even when there is not a ray of light shining upon me. If it's the dead of night, my
shadow will be there. I will still be able to see it no matter where I am. But, of course, no one
believes a ten year old. Three years ago was the first time I noticed something was wrong with my
shadow. I was seven. It was a hot, summer day and all of my friends and I were playing outside. As
I was running across the playground, I noticed that my shadow appeared to be disconnected from
my body and all of its movement. I didn't give the event much consideration until the same thing
happened the following day, and the next day, and the next. I tried to tell my parents, but they
refused to believe anything was wrong, resulting in therapy sessions with a doctor. It was ... Show

I decided to climb out of bed and clear my head in hopes that maybe I would be able to fall asleep.
As I was walking down the hallway and then I saw my shadow move without me. All the fear inside
of me turned into adrenaline pumping throughout my body and I began to run. Running down the
hall I could see my shadow slowly begininning to creep ahead of me and I ran faster trying to
escape. But it was no use. My shadow gained speed and edge in front of me. Before I could even

William Shakespeare 's ' The Shadows '
As the day went on strange thing continued to occur. In math the shadows seemed to be constantly
moving as if they were watching her. Sylvia tried moving to different seats and walking around ,but
it seemed that everywhere she went to shadows made an effort to follow. When she was alone in the
restroom the shadows started inching their way towards her in what seemed like an effort to
consumer her. Then some random girl walk in and they went back to shadows. You must really be

What Happened during the Shadow (who, what, where, when, etc.) While working in Yes!Pingo
which is a Chinese restaurant in San Diego, the manager Nemo gave an opportunity to shadow him
for a whole day shift with aim of evaluating and observing leadership quite closely. This was a
unique chance to experience leadership at firsthand, which to date I remember besides having learnt
much. The manager being a high performing staff in the restaurant asked me to pair him as part of a
program whereby I was to trail him throughout the day. Hence, presenting me with an opportunity to

1.Vision and Expectation The Vision and expectation of the manager concerning the restaurant were
so positive and encouraging. He had a vision that concerned the future direction of the restaurant, its
market, and products. He had expectations of the restaurant prospering through his well–prioritized
strategies besides hoping in few years' time it would have managed to have an aggressive edge in
the market. This was evident when the manager was pushing the workers and encouraging them to
have passion in what they do for this was their key to success. He also encouraged them to put the
happiness of their customers, as each staff's core priority for this was the only way to enable the
restaurant prospers not only in the region but also in other areas.
2.Reinforcement of Service Standards The manager continuously reinforced service standards to
keep the performance of his workers at peak levels. To enable a heighted performance from the
restaurant staff, he engages them into constant training; practice as well as refresher exposures in
order to enable them perform up to the restaurant's standards. Before passing a training program
workers undergo an orientation meant to instill a foundation for the overall training program. To

Traditional Values In In Praise Of Shadows By JunIchir?...
The essay In Praise of Shadows, written by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki explores Japanese cultural values
and aesthetics. The main goal Tanizaki had while writing In Praise of Shadows was to inform the
reader about the importance of having traditional values in Japanese culture. In his essay, Tanizaki
uses shadows to symbolize traditional values, as he believes people are not seeing the importance of
traditional values, just as they are not seeing the importance of shadows. Tanizaki believes that as
time progresses people tend to lose focus of 'old', traditional values and begin to focus solely on
'new', modernistic ones. "I would push back into the shadows, the things that come forward too
clearly, I would strip away all the useless decorations"(42). Tanizaki believes that people should still
value traditional concepts and that they should strip away useless, modern ones. Tanizaki wishes for
people to eulogize shadows in their life. To accomplish his desire, Tanizaki recalls past life
experience to create a sense of appreciation of the mystery and darkness found in shadows Japanese
cuisine is a very important aspect of Japanese culture. The way food is prepared and how it is
presented, play vital roles on how people view Japanese culture. In his essay, Tanizaki makes
several key points on how traditional Japanese cooking is reliant upon shadows forming from the
darkness of the room and plateware. Tanizaki argues that Japanese cuisine loses much of its beauty
when it is served in a modern lighted room or on modern, bright plateware. "With Japanese food, a
brightly lighted room and shining tableware cut the appetite in half" (Tanizaki, 16). He believes that
having food served in a dark room or on traditional plateware causes the food to acquire a true depth
that cannot be acquired in a brightly lit room or on modern plateware. This is why Tanizaki idealizes
lacquerware in his essay, as Tanizaki believes that, "Darkness is an indispensable element of the
beauty of lacquerware" (13). Tanizaki recollects a memory of the time he visited the famous
restaurant in Kyoto, The Waranjiya. This was the first time Tanizaki had uncovered the true depth
that lacquerware holds. "I discovered in the gloss of this lacquerware a

The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh
With Indo–Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The Shadow Lines, of
Amitav Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the partition inflicted psyches. A nation
draws boundary to separate its people from other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the
borders are not strong enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and
history. How can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage? In fact
the makers of the sensational news about the violence on the borders consciously forget the truth
that one cannot divide the memories of the people and in turn tries to foster in them hatred for the
people across the border. The novel helps us think of a free ... Show more content on

Being a Bengali, Ghosh brings into focal point the partition on the Bengal border. Though the novel
concentrates much on a single family it rides through the heart of the wounded India, Pakistan and
Bangladesh and covers a large span of India's freedom struggle. The narrator of Ghosh's novel is a
young boy born and brought up in Kolkata in the post partition India. If the purpose of partition was
to give freedom to the people, that freedom was a nightmare for the Bengalese. While reading the
newspaper, Amitav Ghosh's narrator is forced to ask: "Why don't they draw thousands of little lines
through the whole subcontinent and give every place a new name? What would it change? It's a
mirage; the whole thing is a mirage. How can anyone divide a memory?"(TSL 247) In fact freedom
was just a mirage for the people on the borders. The line was drawn through their heart; many of
them lost their home land; they were cut off from the root. Life in a translated world, away from
their homeland was something horrible for many. The grandmother of Ghosh's narrator is such a

Relationship Between Depression And A Shadow
He once told me that depression felt like a shadow. Everywhere he went, it was right there with him.
The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the sun sinks below the horizon and
the stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel and leaves until dawn. With depression, night
only made the shadow stronger. He described depression as a broken feeling; he had cracks within
himself where sadness always seemed to settle. He had told me when I first met him that I would
never understand the things that he was feeling.
At the time, our circumstances had us deemed an "unconventional couple". He was a few years
older than me, a college boy, and I was just a teenager, working through high school and the many

He had five tattoos in total. My favourite was the bare tree that was sprawled across the entire side
of his abdomen. I also had a fascination with the stain on his right collarbone. On top of those, he
had one located on each arm and one just below his neck on his back. I loved his tattoos. I loved his
scars.
Its sad to think that in some circumstances happiness can be neither pursued or compromised by
oneself. Its sad that the most wonderful people get stuck with the shittiest of circumstances. I knew
that everyday was a struggle, and I knew that everyday he pushed harder and harder to free himself
of the shackles of sadness. The pills that he took were not his only efforts to overcome this. He had
weights on his shoulder that he removed including a girlfriend of two years that he loved but was
not in love with, and a job that did not challenge him. He had told me that being with him made him
calm, it made him momentarily forget the struggles.
Being with him made me forget my struggles too. Every moment spent with him was an adventure
that I don 't think I'll never recover from. He gave me that sort of feeling that you get when you're
swinging and you suddenly have pushed yourself so high that you think you 're flying. When your
stomach manages to tie itself into knots all on its own, but you know you're safe as long as you hold
on tight. He worked so hard to keep me happy and made sure that I always felt safe. I have a fear of

The function and materiality of paint is emphasized when it can be identified on a painting. There
are other differences between the painters portraits. Rembrandt creates a more distinct separation
between subject and background, while Lievens blurs his subject to the environment. Rembrandt
makes clear color distinctions with clean brushstrokes to show the separation between the subject
and its background. Lievens however, smudges the edge of the face to the background and uses
similar colors. The zone of transition between the subject and the background are blurred and start
to dissolve into each other. Lievens brushstrokes are not as careful or clean as Rembrandt 's.
Rembrandt and Lievens take different approaches to depicting the forehead and brow of their
subjects. Rembrandt takes a realistic approach while Lieven takes an expressive approach.
Rembrandt's representation is thought out and smooth. He would have used mostly wet paint to
create the flat surface and various brushes to separate the colors. He must of added thin and light
layers to create a uniform look. In contrast Lievens uses thick and alternating thick and thin layers
of paint. A brushstroke is used to articulate a physical attribute to the face. There is mixing of paint
by adding a thick layer of paint over a still wet layer.Lievens does not try to create a seamless
transition between brushstrokes like Rembrandt. Lievens is more free flowing and liberal in his

Archetypes Shadow In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding, shows the character archetypes shadow
and the stern parent through the characters, Roger and Ralph. Roger becomes the role of the shadow
when he destroys the littluns' sandcastles and throws rocks at Henry. When Roger and Maurice are
relieved from fire duty, they head to the beach for a nice relaxing swim in the ocean after hours of
caring for the fire. When they arrive at the beach, Roger makes a last minute decision to destroy the
littluns' sandcastles with Maurice following. Roger feels no remorse as he charges "straight through
the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones." (79) The shadow
of the dark side is known for having traits of an antagonist, which entails having to commit a
literary conflict and have an overall negative presence. Roger meets the criteria by destroying the
littluns' sandcastles for no reason other than his own twisted enjoyment. Although Roger feels no
shame in destroying the sandcastles, Maurice on the other hand "felt the unease of his wrong doing."
(80) Even though there is no one to punish Maurice and Roger, Maurice feels guilty and ashamed
while Roger is amused and unrepentant. The fact that Roger only feels sorry when there is someone
who can punish him effectively proves Golding's theory that people are inherently evil. In addition
to Roger happily smashing the littluns' sandcastles, he goes out of his way to then mess with Henry.

Are Helicopter Parents Good Parents?
When reading the shadow, the first thought that came to my mind was that this poem seemed
pointless and held little or no meaning to it, but when I reexamined the shadow, being more mindful
to the details this time, I finally recognized the genius of this piece and my opinion of the shadow
drastically changed.but undoubtedly, what made this poem change my perspective to such an extent,
was it's ability to portray our human nature and display them so vividly and unlike any other, I was
given a new outlook on our emotions, actions, and desire's as something we have to keep under
control, but sometimes we have to let our suppressed emotions manifest us in order to keep things
balanced and to let loose some steam and be yourself.
Based on my understanding of the boy and his shadow, I came to the conclusion that the shadow is
the middle man who has to decide between opinions(the ego) and the boy act's as the devil on your
shoulder, often being irrational and impulsive, it tries to convince you to take the easy road, blurring
the truth, and in the process, flipping your priorities on its head for pleasure often delaying progress
and losing trust in yourself (the ID). So how can the boy's shadow be the ego? And the boy the ID?
Well after i finished analyzing the poem, I noticed that the shadow always attempts to act
impulsively, acting before thinking. Take for example this line from the poem "and i see him jump
before me, when i jump into my bed". The boy claimed that his

Why Tarzan Is Not An Appropriate Movie
At age 6, one would expect a kid to be innocent and have nothing but good thoughts. At an older age
though, all those innocent thoughts are taken away and that boy who was once a kid is faced with
the reality of the world. A child who is six old years old and younger shouldn't have to deal with all
that negative information about death, rejection, replacement, and the truth about society. A movie
containing all of that should not be seen by kids who are younger than seven, which is why Tarzan
is not an appropriate movie. The movie may have a happy ending, but the parts that lead up to that
ending are not as happy as one may think. Connie Zweig and Jeremiah Abrams are the authors of
"The Shadow of Everyday Life." They describe The Shadow as having "negative emotions and
behaviors–rage, jealousy, shame... suicidal and murderous tendencies" (Zweig 324). All of these are
presented in the movie. At first, Tarzan begins with a couple that escape a burning ship and then are
forced to go into the jungle with their son Tarzan. Meanwhile, two gorilla parents are smiling,
cradling, and cuddling with their baby gorilla. One night, when the gorillas are sleeping, the baby
gorilla sees a frog and runs after it. He soon stops in front of a leopard. The leopard lets out a big
roar that wakes up the gorillas. They run to try to get to their son as fast as they can, but the leopard
catches the baby gorilla and leaves with him (Tarzan). Now, even though it didn't show what

Summary Of Nature's Beauty In The Land Of Nod By Robert...
Poet Robert Louis Stevenson, the 26th most translated author in the world, contributed greatly to
some of the most famous literature known today. Among his works are Treasure Island, Strange
Case of Mr. Hyde, and many more. As a child Robert was often ill, preventing him from being able
to leave his house. Because of his sickness, Robert missed out on the beauty of the outside world
and unfortunately passed away at the young age of 44. Although his years were brief, he was able to
live his dream of becoming a successful novelist, travel writer, and poet. The poems "Romance,"
"My Shadow," and "The Land of Nod" by Robert Louis Stevenson include a variety of figurative
language, such as metaphors and symbolism, to convey the theme that nature's beauty should not be
taken for granted.
Stevenson utilizes metaphors in his work to elevate the intrinsic value of nature. In the poem
"Romance," the speaker describes a "palace" made of "green days in forests and blue days at sea,"
comparing his dream home to the outdoors(Stevenson 1). Many might think of their sanctuary as a
place to escape the natural elements, however, on the contrary, the speaker portrays his peaceful
setting as being surrounded by nature. He uses the connotation associated with the word "palace" to
suggest that by calling the forest and sea one, the outdoors is a gorgeous dwelling place, worthy to
be a home. The speaker also shows that because forests and seas are just as good as a palace, that

Shadows come in all shapes and sizes, some little some stout. Some are so small they stick to your
feet, some you can't see, but others can. Shadows can be large but nearly invisible, others are
misshapen and blend in with the shadows around you. Each person has a shadow, just because you
refuse to see it or aren't noticing it, doesn't mean it's not there. Even the sun has a shadow, but it
doesn't need to change it, but it uses it to its advantage. We each have a shadow that isn't physical,
but a product of our psyche a dark outline that we either forcibly hid, or subconsciously repress.
How are we to find our shadow if we don't know we are even hiding it? How would one go to find
themselves on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is my worst fear in life? What makes me tick, inside my egotistical, selfish, and vain mind?
Do I know the answers to these questions? Are there other questions that I should be asking myself
to know myself? The Conrad secret sharer talked to himself, he explored things, situations that he
hadn't been in but can really define a person. I often put myself in hypothetical situations but they
play out based on how I want to be, how I want to act. I don't think I have ever thought of my dark
self, of my alter ego, in any imaginary situation before.
If I was forced to hold a bomb, to try and protect myself and several others but at the sever chance
of killing myself and a few others, would I run? Push this life or death situation on to some other
person in an attempt to save me? If I came into a situation where I had to kill a person, would I do
it? Would I be a hero or a coward?
In society, people are made to believe that they are what they are, that what they become is not their
doing, but an inevitable product of living. I don't believe that. People are who they want to be, what
they make themselves. They can let themselves be made by the masses, assimilating to the norm
because "that's what everyone else is doing". But I don't want to be that, I want to be the person that

Communism : Communism And Capitalism
The 20th century was marked by a brutal struggle between two great powers, the United States, and
the Soviet Union, but in reality it was a struggle between two, distinct ideologies: Communism and
Capitalism. Communism was supposed to be the scepter against all the evils that the old world
contained. The people of the world would be freed from the oppressive chains resulting from the
few in power, and be lifted from the brutal, unfair world of capitalism. Millions of people across the
world saw the enticing, heavenly lure of communism and seized the opportunity to revolutionize
their communities. To the millions of disenfranchised citizens stuck in Capitalism's underbelly, the
chance to finally see the light, to finally escape from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Fences by August Wilson, the main protagonists are African Americans living in the last rays of
the Jim Crow era who try to escape the meager life they've always had because of the systematic
discrimination in that period. The circumstances may be against them, with many of them dealing
with the trauma of childhood abuse and racism at work along with the feeling of being hopelessly
fenced in and powerless, but despite this they manage to scrape by. Troy, the father of two sons,
works as a garbage worker, which is a mere semblance of the dreams he once wanted to achieve.
He's jaded, and he takes his pent–up anger on the people around him, including his son.
Cory's struggle to go against his father is a product of him trying to be different from what he
perceives as an oppressive, dream–shattering force in his life. However, the argument that arises
between Cory and Rose when Cory tries to turn his back on his past sheds a greater light on the very
nature of Troy's ebullient, tough, and jaded traits. Cory sees Troy's ethics and morals as not just
outmoded, but restraining and constricting not only to Troy's life, but also to those around him. Rose
understands Troy's actions on a deeper level, and views Troy's actions as an attempt to be the
masculine, stable protector and provider he desires

Cisco Case Study Essay
CASE QUESTIONS – CISCO 1a. How did Cisco find itself in trouble with regard to its intended
IT prior to Brad Boston's arrival? Prior to his arrival, CISCO had a decentralized approach to IT
spending. Independent business groups were making decisions in fuctional silos. Each group their
own funds for IT, therefore, redundant applications such as CRM systems were created. This was a
global issue as well as a localized issue. The Cisco philosophy regarding IT was simple: As long as
someone was willing to pay for it, the IT department would work on whatever process/project
specified. This is not only a waste of money, but it also creates problems when trying to work across
teams. If two teams use two different processes to come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1993, when Peter Solvik took over as CIO of Cisco, he reallocated the IT budget to each
individual department. He also took the power away from an IT steering committee and gave it to
departments. This gave each department the ability to function independent of each other. There was
no need for them to communicate with other departments in order to achieve similar objectives and
goals. 2a. What is BPOC's role? The BPOC's role is to get together biweekly to review and
prioritize key initiatives that impact the company as a whole. BPOC would categorize each initiative
and then make recommendations for the different projects. b. How much formal authority does it
have? While they demonstrated no "formal" authority; the recommendations carried a great deal of
weight. These are senior executives and they do have a vast knowledge of what is needed for the
company to continue to be successful. c. How much IT funding does it control? It does not control
funding for any initiatives, it merely has strong influence and promotes its recommendations. 3a.
Would you approve the call center project, including the rationale for your recommendation? We
would approve the call center project. The call center pilot was already successful in the European
market and is ready to be deployed throughout the entire company. It would create a more efficient
process for both internal and external Cisco customers. It would impact multiple

Shadow Of The Colossi Essay

  • 1. Shadow Of The Colossi Essay You take control of a young man called Wander who has brought the body of young women called Mono to a temple situated in the forbidden lands. Wander is seeking an entity called Dormin who possess the ability to bring back her soul from the dead. The Dormin agree to Wander's request on the condition that he destroys the 16 Colossi that are holding the Dormin captive. Wander agrees to the request and so begins his journey across the forbidden lands. To find the Colossi, you need to raise your sword above your head while in a sunlit area which reflects the light pointing you in the right direction. From there you can hop on your horse Agro and gallop to each location. Consequently, although Shadow of the Colossus is an open–world game, aside from the Colossi and a few lizards you can eat to gain stamina, there is nothing in the world to interact with. Essentially you're tasked with 16 individually boss fights. Gameplay Upon meeting the first few Colosi, each of them invokes a sense of fear predominantly due to their imposing demeanour. All of these massive hulking beasts, are covered in fur and stone, which you'll use to mount and then climb to find their specific weak spots. By thrusting your mythical sword into these vulnerable areas, the Colosi will gradually weaken until their health completely deteriorates and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More often than not, the camera will work against you as you try to correct it with the right analogue stick only for it to auto 'correct' itself, changing the direction you want it to point in. This is my main gripe with Shadow of the Colossus and has been an issue with the game since its first release in 2005. Although it's not enough of a hindrance to spoil the overall enjoyment you'll have with this latest incarnation, it would have been nice had the developers finally addressed this ... • 2. What Is The Story Of A Short Story It was like any other day for me,birds were chirping, grass was growing and shadows were vandalizing property and wreaking havoc on the world.(22.) How all of this monstrosity happened is a long story so pull up a chair and listen.I'm Jack Jone and I was at a friend's birthday party for a friend whose name I can't say because he will be hunted down by the shadows. We had just finished the cake and had just started playing hide and seek. The birthday boy was the seeker and I was the hider(1.)."You should count to 10 and count very slowly," I told him and he soon starts counting aloud"1,2,3....." He counted. He was counting fast not slowly but that didn't matter to the others, they were as fast as ninjas in the dead of night. I try to hide with one of them but she kicks me out of her hiding spot."4,5,6....." he still was counting down and I had to find a hiding spot quick"the forest is a really good spot" I thought to myself.I ran into the forest so fast all I heard as I was running was the fading sound of him counting"7,8,9,10 ready or not here I come" and hearing the screams of children being found and me as the kid always wanting to win ran farther and faster into the forest until I tripped on a root of a tree and phased through the ground into a hallowed cave."SPLASH!!!" that was the sound I made when I landed on the water and the feeling of my body being slammed on water made my back feel like I broke my spine but with little energy and drowning because not being able to or ... • 3. Analysis Of The Book ' The Shadow Snatchers ' After the storm was over, a group of dissatisfied kids had gotten together to discuss the weather. They wanted the weather to be as other cities. James the librarian son told the group about a story his grandfather told him many times during bedtime. His grandfather shared a story about a mystical legend of people called the "Shadow Snatchers". The Shadow Snatchers were a mythical tribe that believed in the ritual of snatching children shadows. The Priest would catch a child sleeping and cast a spell to steal their shadow. The kids thought the story was amusing. James told them about a book in the library that tells the story about the Shadow Snatchers. Cindy who mother was the town mayor suggested they should get the book and read more about the story. As Cindy was finishing her remarks, Paul who played on the school football team hollered out and said, that is the answer. Every body looked at Paul with curiosity. Isabel who mother worked for the mayor, said, "what is the answer?" Paul told them the planned he thought about. Paul shared with them that they should steal the ground hog shadow so no more prediction can be made. With the ground hog shadow missing, they can have an early spring and more fun during the warm weather. Isabel said to Paul that is the dumbest ideal we ever heard of from you. Our parents would kill us doing something like that besides it is only a legend. James said, no it is true my grandfather swear to me before his death. The children decided ... • 4. Shadow of the Night Shadow of the Night On a freezing, dark blue night of Li, in the Village of Li–Marta. This was an old little village, the houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor boards and a rotten wooden roof. In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full of holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren–Rye. As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his mother told him, "be strong like an ox!" Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north came to torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai's way of terrifying the villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then Rye's mother said "hide, son! Hide in the rafters!" from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors explode into a shower of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away. Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork. Rye had woken up from that dreadful nightmare, he was now somewhere unfamiliar a dark, dark place, where there was no light. It was the spirit realm of Gahem a quiet but deadly realm to stay in. Suddenly out of the darkness a shadow appeared the shadow had black clothing and a dark purple hood, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Fear Of Fear : Fear And Fear Fear is an unpleasant feeling which is caused by the awareness of danger according to me. It is something that everyone has to manage no matter what; fear will be fear. Our lives are significantly formed by fears. We cannot escape from the experience of fear and pain. Everyone has their own fears but no matter how people look at it, they all overcome their apprehensions. People have different types of phobias. They are afraid of water, spiders, ghosts, etc. Even I am scared about such things. You know how there's always that one kid who's always terrified of something? Always jumping at the next unsuspecting sound? He is even afraid of his own shadow? Well, I was one of those kids. When I was 10 I had a nightmare. I saw that something was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Who, or what, could have done something like this? I could feel the distinct sensation that I was being watched. There was this person who did not look into my eyes but kept repeating "Red eyes... Red eyes..." And then, there it was. Those two bright red eyes that I had seen just that very evening. I sat in my car; the whole way home I found myself constantly checking my rearview mirror. No matter how fast I drove, the feeling of being watched never quite went away. When I got home, Shadow was not there to greet me at the door as she always had. The house was silent and dark. I may have felt relief if it were not for the dreadful feeling in my heart. Then, right before my eyes, the shadow of a lady appeared. It did not look like the dark figure I had seen before. In fact, the shadow was my own. It was silhouetted against a bright red light. Oh God! This was the worst nightmare I've ever had and vividly recalled. The worst part was the terror with the red eyes I always saw in that one nightmare. I used to often wake up crying and drenched in sweat for few months. I always got the same feelings of dread and fear whenever I was alone. The thought of someone following me, who had red eyes was constantly knocking my head and I just was not able to concentrate on some important things. I was always conscious of what my surroundings were or what they would become. I would examine the environment literally every fifteen minutes, just couldn't stop thinking about it. ... • 6. My Personality Is A Far Away Cave My personality is a far away cave. The mouth of this cave is blocked by several massive rocks; each covered with a smooth and gentle exterior, but deeply rooted into the concrete. It makes it nearly impossible for anyone to enter. In addition to these rocks, there are long thick chains surrounding the opening of this cave which makes the thought of entering a laborious feat. When looking at the cave from the outside, you will perceive it as rough or scary. Although, if you find yourself to be an ambitious soul, attempting to enter the unknown, you will encounter things you would have never thought belonged in such a cave. The first thing you will notice is its beautiful living room decorated with such lively coloured furniture. The bright neon colours of the couch will make you feel warm and welcomed, and the yellow painted walls will make you feel like the sun never sets. I often cannot remember where I last placed the keys to unlock the chains, and other times I misplace them purposefully. This better allows me to meditate and purify my thoughts before entering my home, which makes my cave impenetrable to any form of negativity. Symbolism in A Clean Well–Lighted Place Symbolism, may be defined as a non–superficial representation of an idea or belief that goes beyond what is "seen." Earnest Hemingway's "A Clean Well–Lighted Place" uses symbolism to help convey the theme of Nihilism, the philosophy that there is nothing heavenly to believe in. It discusses that there is no supernatural reason or explanation of how the world is today. Three symbols: the soldier, the café, and the shadows of the leaves, found in Hemingway's short story clearly displays this Nihilistic theme. The first clear display of Nihilism by the use of symbols is the brief passage description of the soldier passing the café with the prostitute. This imagery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light is supposed to let the reader see that the guard is corrupt when he should be a loyal and an example to the community. Hemingway's second portrayal of symbolism that a reader may distinguish is the café itself. The café represents a sanctuary of the evilness of the world. The namesake of the short story is a clue for the reader to see that the café would represent some form of an asylum not only from the elements of nature, but also safety from evil. An example of the usefulness of this sanctuary is how the deaf old man uses the café as a safe–haven to be to himself after the incident where he almost succeeded in committing suicide and enjoys the comfort the café gives. The old waiter represents in the café the kindness and caring that the café should provide; whereas the younger waiter is more of a materialistic character. He clearly displays shallowness and selfishness. Arthur Waldhorn writes that the older waiter helps keep the light on a little longer at the café for those, who like himself, 'do not want to go to bed.' (P 28) The younger waiter is a protagonist in attitude of the older waiter. The philosophy of Nihilism is brought into this theme when the older man recites the Lord's Prayer but substitutes the word "nada" for every noun in it. This business consists of a variety of wood designs which are sketched and painted to the customers satisfaction. Running the studio comes with many complications. On a daily basis there are problems to be solved. How Gidget handles these problems are very impressive. In the end the customer is always pleased. When a customer is unhappy, for me it would very hard to figure out a way to please them and not have a problem with the studio still running on schedule, but for my Mother it is no problem. I think it is easy for my Mother to please a customer in a tough situation because she has always told me "It is never too late to be nice to someone." This quote to me means that no matter how upset that customer is you can always figure out a way to please them. My experience really helped me understand the quote from Atticus Finch "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view–until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." While doing this I will observing the effect of low light on cast shadows as well as the effect of candle light on walls. In addition, I be observing the shift in the intensity of light when adding two candles and later three candles. Before this I will be describing the candle in order to make sense of some of my observation in relation to the color of the candle and how that effects the light it emits. The candle itself gives of an intense fragrance of apple cinnamon in tandem with its rich color of deep red, it is placed in a glass container that is similar in size to a 8 ounce glass. For this exercise I have chosen to place the candle on the ground in a dark corner of the hallway. The space has various objects lining the walls, and a few items on the floor as well. The color of the walls are a lemon yellow and in the darkness its color is faint and is more reminiscent of a gray. I place the candle on the ground and it creates a immediate ring of light around its self, the color of the light contains a tint of red and the effect is creating a halo around the candle. Although, surrounding the candle's ring of light, a darker tone represents the shadow of the candle itself. This initial ring of light on the ground creates the sense of movement in the candlelight by moving in an out mimicking, a camera lens opening and closing. I felt that this was a good example of atmospheric perspective and wanted to expand my understanding of it by studying it. The pieces both relied on light techniques to make up the composition; Shinn's work heavily utilized chiaroscuro, and Birk's artwork relied on atmospheric perspective. In contrast with my last formal analysis, liked both paintings I decided to write about – I did this intentionally because I wanted to expand my formal analysis skills by writing about pieces I felt an emotional connection to, to see if I could ignore my feelings and concentrate on just the content. Even though I felt as if I should thrive by his saying, I could not, not now, and not anymore. It was rainy today, skies were gray, and the atmosphere was foggy. Although I never notice the weather, I did, especially today, as I drive alone to school in the comfort of my warm car. The road was empty, and so, my mind distracted itself towards my dashboard. There lay my license, which I had received a month after my friend's passing. Under that smile was the grief and nonacceptance of the past occurrence which had taken his life over the year before. Today was the day, today had been the year anniversary since his tragic death. Looking back on the road, I could not help let a tear fall from my eye, which then led to an overflow of tears. After all this time, I thought I was okay, that I finally gained that acceptance, I guess I had not. The school was loud, and cheerful as the school celebrated homecoming week which was upon them. Despite the uproar of triumph, classes still remained present throughout the day. Even though the class was bright with smiles, and loud voices, I sat in the back silently on the computer working on class assignments. The teacher made a deal, in which she made a compromise with the class. The teacher suggested that if she played videos on homecoming for the class to watch, that they would settle down. It grew quiet, but likewise, they agreed abruptly without reconsideration. As the video rendered, an advertisement was shown before the film, which had a man sitting in a room filled with white. The video ended with him opening his eyes, and also, presenting his product. The product being sold was a book, which was labeled with big text, "Complete guide to Lucid Dreaming." The advertisement looked intriguing to me, something in my head was telling me to order the book, maybe it was my curiosity. The class grew yelled impatiently, "Skip the ad, let us watch the video!" Also, I have seen how this student interacts with her peers in my cooperating teacher's classroom. I found it interesting to see how the other teachers work with her. • 16. Summary Of In Praise Of Shadows Throughout author Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's In "Praise of Shadows", he expresses his firm belief that simplicity and contrast – common Japanese values – have immense beauty, even as these elements become less common in a changing society. As the world around him shifts away from these values, and more towards values of innovation and uniformity, he feels Japanese traditions deserve to remain appreciated and understood. As a result, Tanizaki utilizes "shadows" to represent not only literal shadows but also the various traditions in Japanese culture that are becoming more underappreciated, as time goes on. Similarly to shadows, these Japanese customs seem to go unnoticed and are no longer a significant aspect of everyday life. Tanizaki's use of metaphors and repetition throughout "In Praise of Shadows" help to exemplify his high gratitude of traditional Japanese Culture. For many portions of the essay, Tanizaki is praising the beauty of shadows within the world around him. This is quite prevalent in the section about gold. Although he speaks often about how he doesn't enjoy the beauty of lustrous metals that shine aggressively, Tanizaki has a differing opinion when it comes to gold. He beckons, "And surely you have seen, in the darkness of innermost rooms... how gold leaf... will pick up a distant glimmer..."(22). In this certain lighting he feels the shine of gold is not aggressive, rather inviting; absorbing light in beautiful ways that seem almost impossible. Tanizaki ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Traditional Values In In Praise Of Shadows By JunIchir?... The essay In Praise of Shadows, written by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki explores Japanese cultural values and aesthetics. The main goal Tanizaki had while writing In Praise of Shadows was to inform the reader about the importance of having traditional values in Japanese culture. In his essay, Tanizaki uses shadows to symbolize traditional values, as he believes people are not seeing the importance of traditional values, just as they are not seeing the importance of shadows. Tanizaki believes that as time progresses people tend to lose focus of 'old', traditional values and begin to focus solely on 'new', modernistic ones. "I would push back into the shadows, the things that come forward too clearly, I would strip away all the useless decorations"(42). Tanizaki believes that people should still value traditional concepts and that they should strip away useless, modern ones. Tanizaki wishes for people to eulogize shadows in their life. To accomplish his desire, Tanizaki recalls past life experience to create a sense of appreciation of the mystery and darkness found in shadows Japanese cuisine is a very important aspect of Japanese culture. The way food is prepared and how it is presented, play vital roles on how people view Japanese culture. In his essay, Tanizaki makes several key points on how traditional Japanese cooking is reliant upon shadows forming from the darkness of the room and plateware. Tanizaki argues that Japanese cuisine loses much of its beauty when it is served in a modern lighted room or on modern, bright plateware. "With Japanese food, a brightly lighted room and shining tableware cut the appetite in half" (Tanizaki, 16). He believes that having food served in a dark room or on traditional plateware causes the food to acquire a true depth that cannot be acquired in a brightly lit room or on modern plateware. This is why Tanizaki idealizes lacquerware in his essay, as Tanizaki believes that, "Darkness is an indispensable element of the beauty of lacquerware" (13). Tanizaki recollects a memory of the time he visited the famous restaurant in Kyoto, The Waranjiya. This was the first time Tanizaki had uncovered the true depth that lacquerware holds. "I discovered in the gloss of this lacquerware a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh With Indo–Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The Shadow Lines, of Amitav Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the partition inflicted psyches. A nation draws boundary to separate its people from other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the borders are not strong enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and history. How can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage? The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the sun sinks below the horizon and the stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel and leaves until dawn. Archetypes Shadow In Lord Of The Flies In the novel, Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding, shows the character archetypes shadow and the stern parent through the characters, Roger and Ralph. Roger becomes the role of the shadow when he destroys the littluns' sandcastles and throws rocks at Henry. When Roger and Maurice are relieved from fire duty, they head to the beach for a nice relaxing swim in the ocean after hours of caring for the fire. When they arrive at the beach, Roger makes a last minute decision to destroy the littluns' sandcastles with Maurice following. Roger feels no remorse as he charges "straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones." (79) The shadow of the dark side is known for having traits of an antagonist, which entails having to commit a literary conflict and have an overall negative presence. Roger meets the criteria by destroying the littluns' sandcastles for no reason other than his own twisted enjoyment. Although Roger feels no shame in destroying the sandcastles, Maurice on the other hand "felt the unease of his wrong doing." (80) Even though there is no one to punish Maurice and Roger, Maurice feels guilty and ashamed while Roger is amused and unrepentant. The fact that Roger only feels sorry when there is someone who can punish him effectively proves Golding's theory that people are inherently evil. In addition to Roger happily smashing the littluns' sandcastles, he goes out of his way to then mess with Henry. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Are Helicopter Parents Good Parents? When reading the shadow, the first thought that came to my mind was that this poem seemed pointless and held little or no meaning to it, but when I reexamined the shadow, being more mindful to the details this time, I finally recognized the genius of this piece and my opinion of the shadow drastically changed.but undoubtedly, what made this poem change my perspective to such an extent, was it's ability to portray our human nature and display them so vividly and unlike any other, I was given a new outlook on our emotions, actions, and desire's as something we have to keep under control, but sometimes we have to let our suppressed emotions manifest us in order to keep things balanced and to let loose some steam and be yourself. Based on my understanding of the boy and his shadow, I came to the conclusion that the shadow is the middle man who has to decide between opinions(the ego) and the boy act's as the devil on your shoulder, often being irrational and impulsive, it tries to convince you to take the easy road, blurring the truth, and in the process, flipping your priorities on its head for pleasure often delaying progress and losing trust in yourself (the ID). So how can the boy's shadow be the ego? And the boy the ID? Well after i finished analyzing the poem, I noticed that the shadow always attempts to act impulsively, acting before thinking. Take for example this line from the poem "and i see him jump before me, when i jump into my bed". The boy claimed that his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Why Tarzan Is Not An Appropriate Movie At age 6, one would expect a kid to be innocent and have nothing but good thoughts. At an older age though, all those innocent thoughts are taken away and that boy who was once a kid is faced with the reality of the world. A child who is six old years old and younger shouldn't have to deal with all that negative information about death, rejection, replacement, and the truth about society. A movie containing all of that should not be seen by kids who are younger than seven, which is why Tarzan is not an appropriate movie. The movie may have a happy ending, but the parts that lead up to that ending are not as happy as one may think. Connie Zweig and Jeremiah Abrams are the authors of "The Shadow of Everyday Life." They describe The Shadow as having "negative emotions and behaviors–rage, jealousy, shame... suicidal and murderous tendencies" (Zweig 324). All of these are presented in the movie. At first, Tarzan begins with a couple that escape a burning ship and then are forced to go into the jungle with their son Tarzan. Meanwhile, two gorilla parents are smiling, cradling, and cuddling with their baby gorilla. One night, when the gorillas are sleeping, the baby gorilla sees a frog and runs after it. He soon stops in front of a leopard. The leopard lets out a big roar that wakes up the gorillas. • 36. Summary Of Nature's Beauty In The Land Of Nod By Robert... Poet Robert Louis Stevenson, the 26th most translated author in the world, contributed greatly to some of the most famous literature known today. Among his works are Treasure Island, Strange Case of Mr. Hyde, and many more. As a child Robert was often ill, preventing him from being able to leave his house. Because of his sickness, Robert missed out on the beauty of the outside world and unfortunately passed away at the young age of 44. Although his years were brief, he was able to live his dream of becoming a successful novelist, travel writer, and poet. The poems "Romance," "My Shadow," and "The Land of Nod" by Robert Louis Stevenson include a variety of figurative language, such as metaphors and symbolism, to convey the theme that nature's beauty should not be taken for granted. Stevenson utilizes metaphors in his work to elevate the intrinsic value of nature. In the poem "Romance," the speaker describes a "palace" made of "green days in forests and blue days at sea," comparing his dream home to the outdoors(Stevenson 1). Many might think of their sanctuary as a place to escape the natural elements, however, on the contrary, the speaker portrays his peaceful setting as being surrounded by nature. He uses the connotation associated with the word "palace" to suggest that by calling the forest and sea one, the outdoors is a gorgeous dwelling place, worthy to be a home. The speaker also shows that because forests and seas are just as good as a palace, that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
