2. Purpose of Analysis
โข The purpose of the analysis is to understand the audience. I have made the survey, to make sure I understand the
audience and their specific social group, education and interests of the Descent. I have asked 10 questions and got
10 or more people to answer them to make sure I understand the audience and interests of the Descent. This
questionnaire has made me realize that the audience that has filled in my questionnaire, has enjoyed โThe
Descentโ. People have probably enjoyed the film because they have experienced a new type of horror, which has
loads of blood and gore. One of the main factors of the film was blood and gore, it was very important towards
the audience due to the fact that, blood and gore got the most votes on the questionnaire.
โข People mainly watch โThe Descentโ for horror, they watch it to make sure they get scared throughout it, also they
could watch the movie because they might want to have some entertainment while watching it. โThe Descentโ will
make the woman of the audience, want to be more independent and powerful because they have watched a film
that portrays that woman and empowered and independent. The film would also draw people in because you see
jump scares, broken bones, extreme sports etc. I also found out on what are the least liked parts of the whole film
is, in the questionnaire it says that, people mostly disliked the narrative of the film due to the fact that it might of
not made sense for some people. Another thing I found out about the film is that, it draws people in to do
something, for example if people that engage in extreme sports watched the film, they might be influenced into
going out and joining a extreme sports group so that they can enjoy themselves. I think that the film makes the
audience scared and frightened because they might not expect on what is coming next, also this could make
people follow the director because he has made a good movie which intrigued the audience to keep on watching
his horror films. The main reason that I asked the questions, was to make sure that I understand on what people
actually think about the film.

apartment, farther is a teacher and mother is a cleaner.
โข Lifestyle: Likes to go partying, enjoys going out with friends, relaxed, really into horror films, likes to go to
metal concerts, part-time job to pay for his food and apartment while farther is helping him a little bit,
also likes using studying.
โข Favorite type of music: โHeavy metal, Dubstep, Drum and bass, Deep houseโ has a wide range of music
types that he enjoys.
โข Favorite film franchise: โDog Soldiersโ follows Neil Marshallโs films.
โข What are your hobbies: Watching films, recording music videos for people, partying and loves going to
heavy metal concerts. This shows us that he would like blood and gore in films because he follows Neil
Marshall.
โข Spending Power: Low to medium, due to the fact that he has a part-time job and doesnโt have that much
money to spend his money on. He tries to go to cinema as much as he can, so that he can go watch horror
films, also he tries to buy DVDโs of horror films because he wants to have a collection of all the horror films
that he has enjoyed. He has no children which makes it more beneficial for him because he doesnโt have
to spend money on buying baby things. He has a girlfriend which he might spend some money on now and
again, to go and watch some horror films with him. He lives by himself, earning ยฃ6 a hour when he works
from Mondayโs to Fridayโs after 4pm to 10pm. He earns around ยฃ14,400 yearly (including tax). And ยฃ1200
monthly which he would have to spend on his apartment and food. He would pay around ยฃ300 monthly
for his apartment and then around ยฃ100 for food, which would leave him with ยฃ800 which he can spend
on anything that he wants, for example he might spend it on taking his girlfriend out to go and see a
horror films like โThe Descentโ.
