2. What point did the presenter
make about videos just a few
years ago and videos now?
People were more dressed and had a lot more
respect for themselves but now days people
are more naked than dressed and also dancing
sexual around the man in the video.
3. Why were these important in the
development of music videos?
Because it includes another target
audience(men) instead of just young girls.
Therefore they make more money.
4. How did ‘Tashy Jay’ chose to represent
herself in the documentary? She represented
herself as more of a classy video girl and that is because she was
getting paid unlike most of the other girls.
What was she saying about ‘video
girls’ at the shoot?
Tashy jay saying that the other girls were being
tacky as such with the way they represent them
self to the artist and all they want is to get with
them and get fame for being known as the girl in
the background.
5. Why do they need these
girls in their videos?
They have these girls in the video to make
the men look superior, and to make the
women look like objects.
What did he think about
‘video girls’?
He believes if they want to flaunt their
bodies about then that’s their decision,
if it makes them look slutty then that’s
up to them.
Where did they find all these girls? Wouldn’t it be
expensive to pay them all?
They send out public notices and they all just turn up. Over the
internet mainly.
6. How does China Black illustrate some of
the issues with how women are represented
in music videos?
The issues are that they spend loads of money on surgery and yet
they don’t get paid, also once you get to a certain age people wont
want you in the videos. Also it makes them look like sluts and its
only about body image not about what they really are as a person.
7. These women believe they are the
ones with the power. They believe
they are exploiting men, not the
other way around. What do you
think? I think the men are the ones in power
because they have loads of women asking to be in
their videos and they are even prepared to not get
paid. Whereas, the men are just sitting back and
relaxing and are in power and making the women
look like objects instead of people, but the women
don’t mind it so the men don’t feel bad.
8. K.I.G use ‘video girls’ - what
do they think of them?
The girls desperately want to be in the
videos and they rarely use the same
girl more than once
Music Video Director ‘Digital
Dan’ has a lot to say - what does
he think of the girls?
He said the girls would do anything he
said for money. Also that they were very
easy to trick.
9. This sexual equality expert argues that
music videos have a lot to answer for what’s the issue?
The issue is that men are being shown as being powerful
and women are being seen as objects that just flaunt there
bodies about.
What does the government think?
That the way music videos are could change the
way young people live there lives. To the way they
dress, and to the way they approach relationships
and sex.
10. What happened to Alisha?
She was asked to go to a private shoot
with a company. She ended up being
tricked and they stripped her and she was
sexually assaulted.
11. This lady has been working with
artists for years and cast lots of
‘video girls’ - what changes has
she seen and what’s her opinion?
She says that it used to be about love
songs and romance but now its just about
sex and the men just want countless
women to be their “bitches”.
12. Why is she challenged on this performance by the
presenter?
Because earlier on in the documentary she said she would never
wear a thong and she would never shake her butt around.
13. This is the US ‘Ambassador for Hip Hop’ - what
is her view?
She says that all the girls that are in the video are pretty and
sexy but the men are generally fat and ugly. She then says
that the differences between how men have to look to be
attractive and how the women have to be is completely
different.
How has Angel Lola Love’s experience
been positive?
Because her experience is part of her plan in life
and is just a stepping stone in her life. Also, she
gets paid for what she does and she doesn’t just do
it for fame.
14. What conclusions can we draw from this
documentary?
That men can be fat, ugly and unattractive
but as long as they have fame and mmoney
they are attractive. Whereas women have to
have the perfect body. However the video
girls just care about fame and most of them
don’t even get a penny which shows they are
just in it for the publicity. So I think that the
hip hop videos now days are wrong but
nothings ever going to be resolved if the
women don’t care.
