1. Evaluation Question 6: What have
you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing
this product?
2. Strengths and Weaknesses of using
the camera equipment.
The strengths are that we used a non-school camera and we feel this let us
explore the use of different types of cameras. It was also a great quality of
image, allowing us to show off facial expressions and the features of the
setting’s and location.
The weaknesses were that because it was a new camera that none of us
had yet used, it took us time to adjust to the way the camera worked. Also
some shots when edited had to have warp stabilizer applied because the
camera was hard to keep still in some shots.
3. Problems we faced when filming and
how we resolved this.
Although we had to get permission from the train station to allow us to
film there it was not a problem and they were very supportive of our
media project.
The only small problems we had was that in some shots members of the
public looked right into the camera. In some cases this meant we had to
film several times in order for the shot to be perfect and have a ‘natural’
essence about it. Further limitations of filming came when a train arrived
we got told to stop until the area had cleared. This made sure we wasn’t in
the way of people trying to get past but on the other hand, when filming it
was sometimes stop and start.
4. Did we get to use new equipment in
order to enhance our media product?
As apart of our filming we got to use a tripod, this meant that we could
secure the stability of our shots. When it came to the panning in some
shots; the tripod allowed us to complete this transaction fluently and also
decreased the chances of unwanted movements of the camera.
We also used a microphone in order to increase the quality of our diegetic
sound because our camera couldn’t capture natural sounds when filming.
This meant that our final product sound features were very clear to hear.
5. What did you learn about the editing
and what effects were useful?
After having some practice of using Premiere in our prelim tasks it
allowed us to know how to work it. This was very helpful when it
came to the editing of our film opening as it would of taken our
group a lot longer to edit if we didn’t have previous experience
with it.
In our film opening we learnt how to apply exponential fades to
the end of audio clips, we used a fade in to portray a potential
romance between the two characters. The fade out was then used
to signify the conclusion of the film opening.
Warp stabilizer was applied where we had to stop the shakiness of
the shot so the camera pan was smooth.
We also increased the speed duration of the train clip which kept
the tempo of the opening up.
6. Phone
Apart of our foley clips we used the voice recorder on the Iphone 6 as the sound
quality was relatively good and need to be applied to some sound in shots.
The first time we used this was the diegetic sound clip of the music after Tez has
taken his earphones out. It was effective because it picked up the diegetic sound
of the music that would be heard if you were with the character.
The second time we applied this was the footsteps of Alicia when walking down
the high street. In this instance it was really effective as it was hard to pick up the
sound from the original shot of the camera.
7. Blogger was the centre of all of our planning, research, evaluation,
construction, reflection and prelim tasks. At first I was a bit unsure on how
to use blogger as editing the template and embedding links etc was new
to me. I felt that blogger was a great site to use after practice because it
kept all work together in a presentational way that looked really smart. The
way you could put your own twists onto blogger to make it unique to
yourself was also really effective way of expressing your own personality.
The access to the groups blog when copying their designated post was
easily accessible and saved a lot of hassle trying to get work off them.
Blogger is one of the best technologies I have used and has been fantastic
in the whole of my Media experience.
8. Youtube
Youtube was one of the biggest parts of our research as it allowed us to
explore film openings which helped when discovering codes and conventions
of Drama and Romance films. We took notes from watching the videos and
was a very important part of all our research.
Furthermore, youtube was used when we as apart of our music research and
the music within our final product opening. This was ‘Skepta- Nasty
(Instrumental)’ and ‘Power of Romance’.
Evaluation Question 7 involved Alicia vlogging about the progression from the
Prelim task which meant she had to export it to youtube. This was also the case
when Evan discussed which film institution we chose.
Youtube was where we uploaded our first draft and final draft to and was easy
and efficient in doing so.
9. Prezi
We used Prezi on Evaluation question 2 where we spoke about how our
product represents social groups. It was a unique and creative way of
presenting our work. Chloe had never used Prezi before and found it easy
to start working on which sped up the process of the evaluating.
Scribd was used as apart of our planning stage that consisted of creating a
script. Although we had very little dialogue in our opening it was still good
to refer back to and a presentational way of displaying the script.
