Editing is a process of preparing any language, image or sound for presentation through
correction(spelling, quotation, grammar, and capitalization), condensation (to make it short)
and organization (intro., 5W and 1H, inverted pyramid style) and other modifications.
In other words editing is a stage of writing process in which a writer strives to improve the
news item by corrective errors and by making words and sentences more precise and
effective.
The selection and correction of a news story is called its editing. Editing is putting a news
story in a required shape and size.
Editing involves minor changes and minor revision. Editing improves the story but without
making major changes.
It is made sure that the words are spelled correctly, language is used properly, punctuation
is at the right place and spelling is accurate.
The main consideration in editing is to tell the story in the fewest words possible and also
the story should be clear and accurate.
