This is my mind map for media, this is what my magazine will include in terms of how my photos will look and what types of stories my magazine will include.

1. Mind Map- Planning Activity
1) Which music genre will you be focusing on? And why? The
musicgenre I am going to focus in is rock and I have selected
this dueto my interest into the genre and also because I am
knowledgeablein this genreit will be more advantageousfor
me to do this genre.
2) Who will the target audience be? Rock as a genre is more
tailored to the youngteens to adultage. Rock also isn’t
restricted to a certain typeof class or ethnicity makingthis
genre morediversethan other genres out there now dueto the
differenttypesof rock genres under the main rock genre such
as rock rap. In terms of psychographics, the genreof rock is
seen to attract the type of peoplewho are seen, by society, as
the explorer. The explorer is seen as youngand in need of
discovery in terms of findingthemselvesand what they wantto
become in life.
3) Who will your featuredartist/ band be?
I am going to use the ‘singer’ of the band and him alone. He will be
a male and will be the main image and him alone.
4) Why will they be on the magazine? What will be the focus
of the magazine?
They are on the magazine as he and his band will be the main focusof
that edition of the magazine and how his band was formed as they
will be a new band which formed ashort time ago and the main story
will be their rise to fameand popularity. The story will revolve
around how the band was formed and whatdecision madethem
wantto become a rock band as wellas the hardship they have had to
overcomein order to get to where they are now.
5) How will your featured artist appear?
Costume-the costumewill be smartcasual as to capturehow
down to earth and ‘normal’the band really is as well as
showing the audiencethat he is an average person and is just
like them which will make him seem like a more realistic role
modelfor the younger audience.
Make-up- there won’t be any make-up dueto the modelnot
needingmake-up.

2. Setting-the setting for my pictures will most likely be a school
classroom dueto me wantingto get as much similarities to my
target audience(teens to youngadults)as possible and then it
will in turn let the band sympathies with my audiencemaking
them an even more ideal and realistic role modelfor them.
Lighting- I will use ambient lighting to make the picturemore
comparable to that of an average classroom and to also allow
the naturalshadowingand lighting to take the best effect on
my modelin order to make the picturehave a uniquehouse
style compared to that of Kerrang’smain images all usinga
solid coloured background asit allows the main focusof the
image (the artist/band) to stand out morewhich will then
entice the audiencemore and will invitethem to read the
magazine.
Props-The main propsI willbe usingwill include; s I want to
associate as much as possible to my target audience in order to
get them all captivated in my magazinejust by lookingat the
cover. I also plan to have other propswhich will be hanging
around the shot to give the audiencehints to the artist’s life
and achievements such as guitars and drum sticks as well as a
microphoneand other such propsto hint to my audiencethat
“the classroom is where his story started”
NVC- I will have my artist posed in a smartyet rebellious pose
as to show to my audiencethat his life is completely different
to how his musiccareer is. My artist will be looking directly at
the camera as to entice my audiencemoreand to give my
audiencea focusto look at, this will create the need for my
audienceto read on and learn about my artist and his past.
6) What is your colour scheme and why have you selected
these colours? What are the connotations?
My colour scheme will complementeach other as to captivate
my audiencefurther and to makemy magazine cover more
professional. The coloursI would usewillmost likely involve
red and another colour such as black. This is because the colour
red is associated with rock and black is known to be a
complimentary colour for red and will also relate to my genre
even better which will captivate my audiencefurther.

3. 7) What other images will appear on the cover or on the
double page spread?
I have also decided to usethe logos of other inspirational rock
bandssuch as Metallica, Guns& Roses and newer bandssuch as Red.
By doingthis it gives the audiencesomevariety on what they can
look at on the cover whilst notoverloadingthem with loadsof
information at the same time giving them a wide variety of choices to
which they can look for the story that they will wantto look at.
8) What story ideas will your magazine feature?
My magazine will feature stories of how the band got together and how
they have overcome many hardships as a group such as family issues such
as abuse and criminal activity which they have escaped from to become a
suitable role model for young children and give people hope who are
dealing with similar situations the band have overcome to get to their
goals. The story will also cover how the band met and what got each of
them into wanting to be part of a band and what sacrifices they have
made to get there.
