my magazine issues such as; interviews, articles,my magazine issues such as; interviews, articles,
recommendations ect.recommendations ect.
4. Target AudienceTarget Audience
My magazine will target white, working class men/women
from the age of 17-30. It will also mostly be aimed at people
who prefer to listen to indie/alternative rock music, for
example; Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, ect. The target audience
will be people who’s occupations are a student or an employee
of some sort. My target audience will also be people who tend
to read music magazines such as; NME, Kerrang, Rolling
Stone as the music genres in those magazines are similar to
the one covered in mine. It will also be people who tend to
shop in places such as; Topshop, HMV, Primark and River
Island.
5. Major ConventionsMajor Conventions
I will use a masthead on the front cover. The masthead is
always the main title of a page therefore the main title of the
front cover should always be the magazine name, which in
this case is Mayfair. I will also use a pull quote on the front
cover so that the readers will be intrigued by the magazine
and want to read further. I will also use cover lines which will
include information about what is inside the magazine. I will
also give the magazine a dominant image. This means that
the readers can instantly see who or what the main feature of
the magazine is about.
6. ConventionsConventions
I will use a splash. It will say something along the lines of
“music, facts gossip”. This will appeal to my target audience
as it will look informal and also gives the magazine a bit of a
comic book feel. I will also include other essential
conventions such as the barcode, the price, the date, the issue
number, ect this is because the magazine needs to remain
professional. I may also include a magazine cover bar as it is
likely to be the first thing that readers see and again gives the
magazine an informal feel which suits the target audience. I
may also include sub images depending on the size and scale
of the dominant image. If it takes up lots of space on the page
then I will not use any sub images, however if it isn’t too big
and there is lots of space left then I will include sub images.
7. Original ImagesOriginal Images
On the magazine front covers I will usually have one dominant
image in the background behind all of the text. This image
will usually be a single person or a group of people with a
white or black background so that it stands out. The colour of
the background may however differ in certain issues so that it
matches the appropriate colour scheme. There will also be
other various images dotted around the front covers such as;
small pictures of band members who may be involved with
one of the features within the magazine. There will also be
other images used throughout the magazine such as
advertisements.
8. Potential DifficultiesPotential Difficulties
• Difficulties I may have with producing my magazine may be
things such as weather. While producing a practice college
magazine, I experienced the difficulties of taking a photo
outside because it was raining whilst I was taking the picture
therefore; this affected the appearance of the modal.
• Another difficulty may be the usage of computers. I can’t
guarantee that I will always have a computer to perform my
work on. My home computer may be occupied, I may not have
access to my class room at all times, and the computers in the
college library may all be occupied.
