1. Q5.How did you attract/address your audience?
1. The use of free incentives such as “Free Top 5 Trance
chart beatport download” as well as “Win a trip to Ibiza”, is a
technique of persuasion used in media to attract the
audience into buying a product (rewards) as in theory you
are getting something free or have a opportunity of getting
something for free.
2. The use of blue throughout the magazine is a masculine
coded colour as blue is stereotypically male coded. However
the blue is also used as it links in with the blue glow of the
glow stick which the model is holding, this can connote the
star wars theme which was later used in the double page
spread where blue is represented by the “Jedi’s” showing the
artist is one of the chosen ones, further connotations of him
being the best DJ around.
3. The quirky image of the artist on the front cover will draw
in consumers and my audience as it is an eye-catching pose,
as well as that a quirky pose will relate to my audience as
within the dance scene there are a lot of quirky
individualists.
4. The use of the two different sell lines which don’t give any
extra detail, connotes the audience will be interested in the
stories and are willing to buy the magazines and find out
more. As real names could not be used, adaptations of
famous names had to be used, these DJ’s are within the
main stream light therefore a wider range of consumers will
associate themselves with them. The secondary story about
the clubs coming back in popularity plays a pun on the older
famous club “Phoenix nights” as well as the program,
therefore this is communicating with the older generation.
5. The addition of a quotation to link in with the new artist
feature, symbolises similarities. The Quote is also a pun as
the person of Cyber DJ is one of outer space, “Incoming”,
sounds like he is coming from outer space.
2. 1. The tagline is included within the contents and the front cover.
The simple slogan “Living Trance”, makes reference to the trance
genre which is being promoted by this magazine and is one of the
main genre my audience would listen too as well as referencing to
the way of life of a clubber, a happy person who takes chances
and lives in the moment.
2. The contents page is categorised into the favourite sections that
my audience research suggested were the most popular: News,
features and music. Within the news sections there would be the
regular features that with regular buyers they would feel
comfortable reading all the time. Within the features category,
this connotes the big sections of the magazine which includes
guides, charts, ‘best of’s…’ and where the ‘reasons why your here’
would be placed. The music feature would include new and
upcoming music tracks and albums that my audience should be
listening too. The three categories together give an extensive
overview of the past month ‘happenings’ of the club/EDM scene.
3. The use of the image link with the double page spread and
attract the audience through the use of shots as it connotes the
artist in action, and if the consumer has never seen the artist live
it gives the consumer that opportunity to see him doing what he
does best. The addition of a DJ recording system screenshot is
used to show the modern aspects that Cyber DJ uses linking with
the technical side of the audience who would acknowledge the
kind of program a top line artist uses.
4. The use of language throughout the content page, plays on the
different techniques of persuasion. As it is a June issue, it is just
before a party season, therefore the use of words such as ‘party’,
‘best’, ‘Ibiza’, these entice audience to be in the party mood and
buy the magazine to know where to go and what to do during
party season.
5. Using the blue colours adds continuity throughout the magazine
and creates a corporate identity that will make audiences
associate certain colours and objects with the magazine. Further
continuity is the addition of the same style and font used on the
front cover for the “Contents” title.
3. 1. The reference to the masculine coded ‘Star wars’ franchise
with ‘IV A NEW HOPE’ attracts the audience as due to the
large male demographic they would understand the pun
where the artists is the new up coming artists that has taken
the world by storm. Further links with the star wars franchise
is the light saber used within the image which has been
extended so that it seems the artists is breaking through
both of the pages .
2. The images used within the double page spread each have their own reason
for being used. The first image is a full body shot so that the audience are able to
see the artist fully and in this case I used special effects to make it seem the
artist is breaking through and exploding on to the scene, this is attractive to the
audience as they are witnessing the growth of a mega star and they are able to
read in the inside scoop. The second image is a point of view shot, this connotes
that the reader is able to see what happens when the artist is doing his job and
creates a sense of realism of being within his shoes. The last image is quite a
quirky aggressive shot showing his new single, therefore the audience are able
to see his new single and be able to recognise so are able to buy it if interested .
3. The floating quotes are used in
strategic places within the double
page spread so that it breaks up
the amount of text in one section.
They also describe more about the
artists and are eye catching to read
as they are a different colour to
the rest of the text.
4. The content within the double
page spread is split between an:
introduction, lifestyle, recent
tour, personal life and a
conclusion. This gives an overall
summary of the life of the artists
thus using the technique of
emulation and envy for the
audience that they with this
exciting lifestyle, they want to be
like him.
5. The colour scheme is the same
as the contents and front cover
therefore giving a constant house
style throughout the magazine.
