1. CODES AND CONVENTIONS
This Powerpoint is to show the codes and conventions of
magazines front covers, content pages and double page
spread.
2. Masthead – Q is used as a logo on all
the Q
magazines, so it is easily to recognised
when
is merged into all the other magazines.
The
magazine can be recognised because of
the
bright red square box with a bold white
Q,
these colours are also contrasting which
make them stand out more. Then in small white writing it
says ‘A DIFFERENT TAKE ON MUSIC’ to show they are
different from any other music magazine.
MUSIC MAGAZINE
COVER
Main image– Lily Allen has her back turned away from
the camera but her face looking towards it. The way she
is looking at the camera shows connections to the
audience. She has no clothes on her top half and is
biting her finger trying to look seductive. There are also
panthers on the front cover because she was called a
sexy beast and these animals are associated with beasts.
3. MUSIC MAGAZINE COVER
The feature
headline - ’LILY
ALLEN’ is bigger
than the rest of the text. This is because she is the most important
part of the magazine and they want people to know that this is
what the magazine is about.
Barcode/price – The barcode is needed for
buying the magazine. The price tells people how
much the magazine costs
Side notes – In bold it shows what the
magazine has inside it. They have used
different sized fonts and different sized writing
to show the best things in the magazine. Such
as in medium sized writing and in a different
sized writing it says ‘EXCLUSIVE’ so it stands
out to the rest so people want to buy the
magazine.
4. CONTENT PAGE
Masthead – The red and the white
Q
has been used though out the
pages to
show what the name of the
magazine was. It also shows a theme though
out the magazine. Next to the masthead
there is the title
contents to show what is on
this
page. It is to inform us what
article are in the magazine.
Information – On this page
there are lists of the things that
are going to be on each page of the magazine. This is so people
don’t have to look though the whole magazine to find the article
they want to read is. Then underneath each artist name there is a
little bit of information so that people can find out what the article is
about before they read the whole thing.
5. CONTENT PAGE
Picture – There are different sized pictures to drag people in to
reading the articles. Such as the magazine is all about ‘Take That’ so
the largest picture is ‘Take That’ this is what the magazine is mainly
about. Then 5 pictures of different sizes fit in the same space as the
‘Take That’ picture. The pictures go with the magazine articles and
help to entice people, such as if they like Rhianna people will buy the
magazine so they can read the article about her, Next to the picture
in bold black numbers says the page number so that they can go
straight to the page after seeing the picture and wanting to read it.
Colour scheme – The colour scheme of this magazine is red
and white it has been used on the front page in the masthead
and then it has been used on the contents page on the banner
and the small lined in between the artist and the information
about the article. These colours contrast each other which
makes them stand out so the people will look at the coloured
parts first.
6. DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD
Featured title – The main tile is ‘LADY GAGA’
this is because this is who the double page
spread is about. Her name is in red, bold,
capital letters so that it stands out against the
white background. It is also the largest text on
the page which makes it the first thing you on
the page. It tells people who she is because
people don’t always know what artists look
like. Information – ‘WHAT I’VE LEARNED’ this was in bold
black writing because it is showing what the article is
going to be about before reading it. When people
see this it will make people want to read the
magazine.
7. DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD
Picture – The audience can clearly see that the large picture of
Lady Gaga has some significance as it takes up half of the double
page spread. In the picture Lady Gaga is doing a sexy side pose
where her body is facing the side of the camera and she is facing
the camera to show she is connected to the audience. The phot of
Lady Gaga is very sexual, you could say it was aimed to attract the
male eye. She is wearing a small black body suit so that she looks
more sexualised for more people to read the article and so that it
fits in the colour scheme of the magazine.
Colour scheme – The colour scheme of this
page is red, white and black, because the
magazine only has 3 colours it makes the
magazine simple but effective because it makes
everything stand out. The titles are in red and
the text is in black which makes difference
sections stand out.
