Dilemma of
Gender
‘Unfreedom'
Development consists of the removal of
various types of unfreedoms that leave
people with little choice and little opportunity
of exercising their reasoned agency. The removal of
substantial unfreedoms, it is argued here, is
constitutive of development."
― Amartya Sen
"
5. Sen's expression for the progression of development
(synonymous to the removal of Unfreedoms) in any
modern political system has been primarily
underplayed both in action and realisation. Sen
identifies that if realised and acted upon prominently,
the removal of these Unfreedoms will be a leading
factor in the development of the system.
Gender disparity is one such significant Unfreedom
that has been a part of society since the inception of
the Indian Republic. As the country freed itself from
the shackles of British rule, the Indian free state had to
fight against perilous practices such as child marriage,
female infanticide, dowry, and sati.
Today, it can be realised that some of these practices
have been completely negated in the state, while some
are widely practiced in pockets and are entirely
unaddressed.
India- 'as a state' has launched on the path of removing
gender disparity through state initiatives from time to
time, and they have been effective to a large extent.
While India- 'as people' still succumb to deficient
gender representation, pay gap, domestic abuse, and is
prominently lacking in its realisation and action
against gender disparity.
Certainly, disparity against gender has to be fought on
both fronts!
And is there a better tool for fighting inequality and
injustice than education?
Probably not!
Taking a little stride forward and identifying
'Education' as a tool to remove disparity, The
Knowledge Review proudly presents this issue
'India's Most Admired Women in Education
Sector 2022'.
We assembled stories of Women leaders who are
overcoming significant constraints in their inspiring
pursuit of transformation in Education.
Happy a wonderful read!

14. Source of Inspiration
Her mother admiringly influenced
Dr. Anila. While talking about her, she
says, "My mother, being at the
distinction of holding a double
master's during those times and giving
utmost importance to education, has
been my greatest source of
inspiration." After completing her
post-graduation, Dr. Anila's journey
started with a turning point when she
got married to her husband, Late Col.
R.K Bhatara (VSM), who further
inspired her and became her role
model.
Values and Viewpoints
Dr. Anila shares the vision, mission,
and beliefs of her institute - AB
Education, below:
Vision: To create values in lives
through education, entailing, realizing
inner potential, and transferring
humanity from one generation to
another.
Mission: Through Psychometric
assessment tests and counseling and
guidance, to help students realise their
inner potential and make brilliant
lawyers and good human beings.
The AB Education team believes that
human resource is the most important
resource, and developing them is an
essential prerequisite to a developed,
responsible, and prosperous country.
Product solutions and models for
applications for diverse industries are
developed through extensive research
and development, whether aviation,
shipping, hospitality, engineering,
infrastructure, power, petroleum, or
other energy sectors.
AB Tutorial has won several awards
for its excellent work in education.
Some of the awards are listed below:
Advancements in legal education can
meet many other challenges in the
legal system. By propagating education
and awareness in law, India can
achieve easily accessible, profound
legal aid and swift justice to its
citizens.
Dr. Anila Bhatara, and her institute-
AB Tutorials, have embarked on a
laudable reputation for outstanding
education in law and efforts to spread
legal awareness. Dr. Anila Bhatara also
works as a consultant counselor with
various schools in India.
Birth and Rise
Dr. Anila Bhatara was born and raised
in a family of educationists who highly
respected and valued education.
Having studied in public and
missionary schools all over India, she
was lucky and had ample opportunities
in the field of education.
She opted for liberal arts at the
St. Xavier's College, University of
Mumbai, where she completed under-
graduation and post-graduation,
st
securing the 1 position in the
university. Specialization in education
and psychology further gave her a
platform to do B.Ed. and M.Ed. with
doctoral dissertation and further an
opportunity to do post-graduation in
counseling from NCERT.
In 1992, Dr. Anila founded AB
Tutorials for law exam training, which
has touched more than 45,000 students'
lives, and ABERD for career guidance
and counseling, which has successfully
counseled over 1,00,000 students.
Alongside, she has also worked as a
consultant in various organizations and
schools to guide students through the
process of psychometric assessments.
India's Most Admired Women In Educational Sector - 2022
When we generally think of
the legal system, and its
practitioners, a common
vague visual of black robed
individuals, a distantly placed dais, and
the judge sitting on an elevated podium
arises for us as laymen. But apart from
these abstract visuals, most citizens in
our country are unaware of the law and
even fundamental rights granted by the
constitution. This situation is termed
legal illiteracy and could have an
adverse effect on a democratic country
like India.
Legal literacy or Legal awareness can
be defined as apprehension regarding
affairs in law, which is empowering for
an individual. Legal awareness among
citizens contributes an immense
strength to the constitution. This is why
permeating legal awareness and legal
education is the need of the hour.

16. Challenges and Solutions
According to Dr. Anila, educators are
struggling today, mainly due to an
unavailability of a uniform policy and
its implementation. She also thinks that
there is a scarcity of the
availability of good training programs.
During the pandemic, a great effort
was made by AB Tutorials to provide
productive learning through online
mode and disseminate knowledge and
information. Numerous talks and
seminars were given on aspects of
education. Particular emphasis was
given to mental and emotional health
to propagate strength and faith among
the students.
Dr. Anila adds, "Online education is a
great blessing and has a lot to offer to
students, teachers, and working
professionals as people in general with
technology and changing times. It is
time to positively accept the
advancement and know that one can
achieve a lot. With online teaching,
teachers in the present times are
required to upgrade themselves with
technology; it can work wonders if
applied in the right way."
Dr. Anila believes that with the
internet, a platform is provided which
exposes a vast arena of knowledge for
the students. "It has its positives and
negatives; there is one way of
communication. To conclude, there is a
great impact on social-emotional
development, whereby at times,
students find that they are at a juncture
where a lot of help is required by the
right people to gain confidence and
have clarity of thought. It has led the
students to realize the importance of a
'guru' or a mentor in their life, also the
importance of offline teaching. A great
deal of teaching and learning process
was taken for granted," Dr. Anila
added.
Education, a Tool of Empowerment
Dr. Anila Bhatara admits that the
knowledge about one's health, hygiene,
basic work is essential which implies
enhancing oneself in all the areas.
She believes that, "Education is not
merely a job; it's an involvement,
commitment, and a way of life. It gets
embedded in your system, and there is
no bouncing back. Education entails
realizing inner potential and
transferring humanity from one
generation to another. In terms of
change, I feel we must redefine
'Education' to include the development
of specific areas that have been
neglected so far. Efforts are being
made, but I feel it should begin early in
growing years of one's life."
"These can be broader areas of
education, a model whereby this has to
be balanced along with practical
knowledge and skills so that it allows
Education is a
life-long process, and to
achieve one's goals and be
successful, one has to be
committed, focused, dedicated
and have the zeal from within to
reach out to the masses.
17. people to move on in life. To inculcate
values that provide a base to build up
holistic personality viz. National Social
Service Scheme working for some
NGOs, opportunities, and framework
of this should be a part of the
curriculum," Dr. Anila Bhatara added.
Dr. Anila believes that knowing oneself
and their world of work and relating
yourself to the world of work,
Correlating with one's capacity,
interest, and aptitude, should also be a
part of the curriculum.
She also thinks that it should be used
as a tool of empowerment to
understand students' capacity,
potential, and interest in the fields they
opt for.
Outlook for Coming Years
While sharing insights about her
outlook for future endeavors, Dr. Anila
says, "The students must opt for a
career which is best suited for them, so
that they can achieve heights in the
related fields with respect to the
aptitude and interest they possess.
Along with this, we look forward to
enlightening students' lives by
imparting them formal education along
with life skills which makes them a
responsible citizen and bring laurels to
the country, adding to the pride of
India." She also notifies that the AB
Tutorials is expanding pan India to be
able to reach out to students to all the
parts of the country and reach out to
maximum students for career guidance
and counseling and developing a good
human resource base in the country.
Dr. Anila Bhatara anticipates guiding
and mentoring future law aspirants
across the country and the world
to create the best quality law
graduates at the forefront of
things on an international
platform.
Given the backdrop of sudden
technological indulgence in education, Dr. Anila
thinks more efforts have to be put into skill development programs,
increasing productivity and a change of attitude towards specific
work-related careers that will bring them into the mainstream of
education. While talking about the same, she explains, "Education is
a life-long process, and to achieve one's goals and be successful,
one has to be committed, focused, dedicated and have the zeal
from within to reach out to the masses." She believes that it is also
crucial for educators to understand that every child is unique and
must be treated as per their requirements.

20. interest in both language and education to grow expertise in
both subjects eventually. Today she is recognised in both
fields as an expert.
Source of Inspiration
Mrs. Balachandran found her role models at an early age in
her teachers. Her biology teacher would constantly guide
her on the study methods while conveying the subject
wonderfully and even going beyond to teach how large
chunks of the syllabus can be managed in a limited allotted
timeframe. Her teacher would make the students understand
at a very young age that the day would only be twenty-four
hours and make the best use of it. This had prepared
Mrs. Balachandran with the time constraint, even when she
had to reach the highest level in the subject, and has helped
her understand time management at its very core.
Moreover, her English teacher induced love for the subject
by making the students think creatively and critically about
everything they read. As a student of Senior Cambridge,
which today is known as ICSE, Mrs. Balachandran had a lot
of literature to cover, and it became the most beautiful,
enlightening experience. Interestingly, as she completed her
B.Ed, she had joined a school as a teacher and became
colleagues with her childhood English teacher.
Joining the Esteemed Ramjas Institution
Mrs. Balachandran was a teacher at Modern High School
Calcutta for just about a year. After her marriage, she
moved to Delhi and joined Ramjas School Pusa Road in
1973. Little did she know that she would remain with
Ramjas organisation till 2008.
Mrs. Balachandran had initially joined as a vice-principal at
Rajmas RK Puram, but the appointed principal had to leave
due to some circumstances. Hence, Mrs. Balachandran
joined as the principal of the esteemed school in 1974, till
she retired in 2008.
The founder of Ramjas Institutions, Late Rai Kedar Nath Ji,
despite constraints of poverty, pursued his studies with
great devotion, dedication, and distinction and rose to the
position of a Sessions Judge. He was a man of a keen
intellect and had in him a rare combination of sterling
qualities like simplicity, compassion, sacrifice, fortitude,
strong will, and irrepressible zeal.
Do you remember your first day at school? A strange
gush of feelings might have been revisited if you
try to recall. On the first day at school, children
feel like they are separated from the family, but actually,
they are stepping into a brand new world of learning.
Would you also be able to recall the very first lesson on the
same day? Probably not!
Only a few would recall the very first lesson on the first day
at school, but we surely remember the lessons that opened
our world of imagination and made us curious about the
subject.
There must be some reason why that particular lesson gets
stuck in your memory longer than others.
It does not have much to do with the lesson or the idea but
more with how it was conveyed for you to understand and
how the teacher captured all your attention and curiosity.
As Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me, and I forget. Teach
me, and I remember. Involve me, and I learn," great
teachers and their lessons make a formidable impact on
children's minds.
Mrs. Balachandran is one such educator who had started
her journey into the field of education with a solemn
purpose - to inculcate love for learning among her students.
She has been active as a teacher and Principal of Ramjas
School, RK Puram for over three decades and continues to
inspire us with her incredible journey.
The Story as it Began
As a student in Kolkata, Mrs. Balachandran had opted for
education as a subject at graduation level. Very few
universities were offering it as a subject. There was no
counselling at that time, and she had selected the subject
out of sheer interest. She followed it with a B.Ed degree.
As her interest in the subject grew, she completed a Post
Graduation in Education (M.Ed) from the prestigious
Central Institute of Education, Delhi University. This was
followed by a Post Graduation in English from Chandigarh.
Mrs. Balachandran was already a voracious reader and had
always loved English literature. Hence, she combined her

India's Most Admired Women In Educational Sector - 2022
21. Mrs. Balachandran adds while speaking
about him, "In the real sense, he was a
true - Karma Yogi. He was a beacon of
light and left no stone unturned to dispel
the darkness of ignorance prevailing in
society. He resigned from the post of
Session Judge and made a significant
mark in the annals of history by devoting
himself to serving the cause of education.
He established temples of learning, The
Ramjas Schools, which bore fruits with the
Ramjas Team expanding to include 16 schools,
one Day Boarding School, one Post-Graduate
Ramjas College, and Ramjas Sports &
Mountaineering Institute, with a fraternity of about
15,000 students and staff. The spirit of his great noble
soul will forever continue to guide us all in our ceaseless
endeavours in the pursuit of truth, knowledge, and
wisdom."
The esteemed school shares its motto to be Shradha,
Gyan, Karm.
Visionary Outlook of Ramjas School
Ramjas Schools envision their students to do well and
compete with the best. But more than anything, the school
strives to cultivate the right values in life. The course
objectives ensure that the learning outcomes match the
course objectives.
The school has always seen teachers as learners and was the
first in Delhi to set up a Teachers' Center with support from
the British Council in 1976. The organisation ensured that
teachers kept learning and sharing their learning with
colleagues.
They had several training programs at
the Center by world-renowned experts
from the British Council and India. All
the workshops were conducted at no
cost to the teachers, and invitations
spanned across most Delhi schools.
Mrs. Saroja Srinivasan, a teacher from
Ramjas school, was one of the first
teachers to undergo training in the UK
on Environmental Studies in 1976
when no school had introduced it as a
subject.
Being Ahead of Time
According to Mrs. Balachandran, technology and
education go hand-in-hand and have played a vital
role during the pandemic. Mrs. Balachandran adds,
"Of course, the teacher's technology skills have a lot to
play in the effective delivery of these lessons from both the
point of syllabus coverage and attention spans."
She lists the critical effects of the same below:
Ÿ Students have begun to feel that teachers are not
indispensable, and technology can be self-sufficient.
Ramjas School ensured that
every child had a chance to be
educated, and long before the
Economically Weaker Section
rules (Right to Education Act),
they had 25% of their students
getting free education.
22. Ÿ Students have started losing interest in learning as there
is often not enough interaction among them.
Ÿ Students have subtly started appreciating schools for all
the learning that indirectly takes place through the
activities like sports etc.
Furthermore, Ramjas RK Puram was selected by 'Intel' to
set up the first Teach To the Future lab in 2000 to train
teachers about the use of technology. More than 3000
teachers were trained at the school, and Craig Barrett, the
CEO of Intel, formally inaugurated the lab.
Mrs. Balachandran had completed her Master's Training,
won a special award, and was sent to Osaka in Japan to
address teachers on the benefits of technology integration.
Many of her students are in the technology field worldwide
and have gained recognition as scholars and professors in
the US, Canada, and the UK.
Mrs. Balachandran has also been an ODA scholar of the
British Council and was trained in England in the
Communicative Approach to Teaching English and on her
return she trained a large number of teachers in this
approach which was adopted by CBSE (Central Board of
Secondary Education). This approach is now being renewed
by CBSE.
She had also represented India at the UN on The Education
of Girls in 2007 As a part of this delegation and had
traveled to two Universities in the US to address
the students.
Innovation in Education
Mrs. Balachandran shares an incident that went beyond
academic work and signifies that education is truly an
impeccable tool for empowerment. She says, "One of the
social empowerment programs was an exchange where
students of the school went to a village in Udaipur and
lived with the weavers in their homes and experienced their
hardships. They were then invited to the school and stayed
with us. The same students were then taken to my husband's
village Iringal in Kerala. They were able to compare village
life in the two villages vis-a-vis education, development,
cleanliness, etc."
Ramjas School has taken up several international programs
in various fields, including Project Citizen India - We The
People, where many schools (nearly 500) were involved.
The program funded by The Center For Civic Education
California gets students to look at Government policies and
their implementation/lack of implementation. Under the
project, students took up many civic problems like Lack of
Toilets in the Villages, Preservation of Monuments, Acid
Victims, etc. A delegation of students was taken to
Washington under this project.
Another project was the link with The Droitwich School,
Essex, which specialised in sports. Under the exchange
program, which started in 2005, many students traveled to
the UK, and many students from the UK visited India and
stayed with host families.
Ramjas School ensured that every child had a chance to be

Word of Advice for the Future Educators
Mrs. Balachandran believes that an educator
should not treat teaching as any other job. She
quotes, "Your contribution will go a long way
to make a much better world, so be
committed and remember your rewards will
come not in a monetary form but in the way
humanity will have risen to unbelievable
levels."

she took up the task on request from

has ingrained the culture of discipline,

Integrating a Classical Dancer's

Legendary Actor
Amala Akkineni is a trained
Bharatnatyam dancer and being part of
the Kalakshetra troupe, she was deeply
inspired by Smt. Rukmini Devi
Arundale who was known for
catalysing the renaissance of the
Bharatnatyam dance form. Despite
being a great dancer, she was also an
educator, a Member of Parliament, and
the founder and director of
Kalakshetra.

Educating and Organising the
Film Education Space in India
AmalaAkkineni
Movies are often considered
as the gateway to reality.
The current geographical,
political, cultural, and spiritual
landscapes are beautifully portrayed in
the movies through the director's
vision. However, making a movie is
never too easy, as it requires more than
just hard work and perseverance.
Films have given the young generation
a platform to express their art form and
tell their stories to the world. In India,
despite having more than a century-old
history in filmmaking, there are very
few institutes that teach filmmaking.
Education about films and television is
lacking in the country and is yet to
reach the aspiring filmmakers of
tomorrow.
Identifying this need and being an
impacting figure in the film industry,
Amala Akkineni, the Governing
Board Member and Director at
Annapurna College of Film and
Media, has taken up the responsibility
to educate and train the young
generation about different aspects of
filmmaking and culminate the long-
cherished dream of the legendary film
actor Akkineni Nageshwara Rao.
Prioritising Education Over Career
as an Actor
Amala Akkineni has had an impactful
career as an actress in the Indian film
M through their art, poetry, and
literature. Hers was a living education,
and it was an adventure studying under
her leadership. Most of all, she knew
how to draw out a student's potential.
She never gave up on you," says
Amala.
Another prominent figure that inspired
Amala was her father-in-law, Shri
Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, who
shared a similar belief as Smt. Rukmini
Devi Arundale. Despite having no
formal education, he was gifted with
immense wisdom and worked hard to
develop his talent and career.
"I am so deeply inspired by and
grateful to both stalwarts who have
contributed immensely to my success at
Annapurna College," says Amala about
her inspiration to join the education
sector.
Carrying Forward the Legacy of
Akkineni Nageswara Rao
The Annapurna College of Film and
Media is the brainchild of Mr
Nageshwara Rao with a vision to bring
professionalism to the unorganised film
industry. Being a visionary and
successful actor himself, he brought
together infrastructure, technology, and
education to strengthen the foundation
of the film industry in India. His
respect towards technicians, artists, and
educators allowed him to shape the
college and make it what it is today.

Mr Akkineni Nagarjuna, a film actor,

education for being the basis to
revolutionise the film industry.
"Learning by doing is the best way,
and when empowered by education, the
knowledge can be transformative to the

the chairman of the institute
Mr Akkineni Nagarjuna.
The Annapurna college provides
hands-on experience to its students
along with the theoretical knowledge
that enables the students to be ready

On a Visionary Mission to

Since its inception, the Annapurna
College of Film and Media has
included value-based learning in its
ecosystem. Under the guidance of
Amala Akkineni, the college has not
only taught but also practised esteemed
values like Integrity, Empathy, Social
Responsibility, and Adaptability. This
provided flexibility and created an
inclusive environment at the campus
for the overall development of
students.
With an extension of the founder's
vision, the college aims for:
Ÿ Providing holistic education on
campus to stimulate inquiry,
Critical Thinking, Creativity, and
Excellence.
Ÿ Mentoring for aesthetic
applications of craft.
Ÿ Explore and experiment with
entrepreneurial skills and business
acumen.
Ÿ Nurturing students to be global

32. Committed to Educational
Excellence
Amala, following the founder's
footsteps, has made Annapurna
College a hub of educational
excellence. She has the vision to
inspire a new generation of
filmmakers. There has been a
continuous revision and update in the
college curriculum that matches the
current trend in the industry.
"Cinema is an interdisciplinary process
and learning at the campus begins
from day one. The industry's
experienced faculty at the campus are
instrumental in delivering technical
subjects. Every theoretical concept is
followed by practice, projects, and
creative feedback to map the student's
growth and improvement," says the
director.
The common love for films has
brought students from different
cultures, backgrounds, and languages
together under one roof at Annapurna
College of Film and Media. The
director of the college has recognised
that academic rigour is not enough to
improve learning outcomes. This is the
reason that constant creative feedback
is included in the curriculum. Along
with that, the course objective also
includes understanding concepts,
developing creative practice,
experience, exposure to technology,
etc.
Changing with the Change in
Conventional Education
As W.E.B. Du Bois believed,
‘Education must not simply teach
work, it must teach life.’ She has
understood the impact of interactive
digital space and has blended the
medium to support creative learning,
innovative teaching, and foster the
students' individual potential.
During the lockdown, with the aid of
technology and tools, collaborative
discussions, projects, and assignments
were conducted for the students. Along
with being the audience on the digital
platform, students also got an in-depth
insight into creating engaging content.
Amala believes that "The real world
offers an equally rich dimension to
their education. They are encouraged
to experience life around them, face
and navigate real-life challenges and
learn from them. The virtue of being
pragmatic, passionate, and constantly
evolving is imbibed in them."
Overcoming the Digital Challenge
"We have a lost generation before us
and misinterpreting them or alienating
them is a danger. Every technological
shift has both positive and negative
repercussions. While technology has its
merits, it also has far-reaching
consequences on geopolitics, the state,
societies, families, and individuals.
Even though the next generation knows
the benefits technology has to offer, to
teach them to be mindful of it and not
be subservient to it is a challenge that
we as educators face today," says
Amala Akkineni.
Overcoming this challenge, the
institute director constantly consults
with and inspires the team to navigate
and evolve. With the backing of an
industry-ready team, the college was
online during the pandemic and

delivered a productive and vibrant
semester. Sixty-eight industry
professionals, including top filmmakers
from India, took masterclasses and

Enlightenment for Future Film
Educators
The concept of education has
undergone many changes over the
years. It has constantly evolved with
the demands in the industry and
drawing out a roadmap in the film
education space is extremely
important. Amala advises the
upcoming entrepreneurs in the film
space to get the right team of
academicians who prioritise learning.
She also believes that it is the first step
in the right direction.
"Any form of education deals with
shaping a generation of individuals
who perform their functions within the
frame of a society,” says Amala. “The
institution as an entity should foster
and enable democratic dialogue,
intellectual fervour, and a quest for
knowledge. Drawing from our example
at Annapurna, all the practices
mentioned above help us produce and
encourage cinema in its purest form,"
she added.
Roadmap for the Future
For film students and professionals,
working in an actual film studio gives a
hands-on experience of working in the
industry. The new state-of-the-art
campus with production floors,
post-production facilities, sound and
editing studios, amphitheatre, and
screening halls, is the next big step
for Annapurna College of Film and
Media.
"Virtual productions are the next big
thing in Film, and our Alumni are
already working with India's first
Virtual Studio in Hyderabad," added
Amala Akkineni.
Along with that, the college is planning
to increase collaboration through the
CILECT network to give the faculty
and students a diverse exposure to a
variety of educational approaches and
films. However, the immediate goal of
the college is to spread the word about
Creative Education and the much-
needed recognition and encouragement
to creative careers.

Extending the Reach of
Advanced Learning in India
India is a country with a total population of 1.4 billion,
which constitutes around 17% of the world's
population. While 26% of its population is aged below
14 years, India heavily resides on its education for ensuring
the grooming of its vast human recourse.
India has a vast network of schools for its widespread
demography that reaches every nook and corner of the
country. In such a case, monitoring the consistency of
education practices providing trained staff and
infrastructure is a humongous task for any single
organisation. This tumultuous task is smoothly manoeuvred
by several organisations that operate in sync to contribute
and deliver to India's educational advancements.
But such organisations, and schools are usually located in
big towns or cities, denying access to the children in small
towns and villages. Children from small towns and villages
are often sent away from their families to attend a distant
school or shift to the location. But some schools arise
intending to cater to such areas that have been long
deprived of state-of-the-art learning.
Delhi World Public School, Manendragarh is one such
school that has been contributing heavily to the ongoing
advancement in the education space in India. The
Knowledge Review takes pride in acknowledging the
school's efforts, with some excerpts from an interview with
the Principal of the School, Archana Mishra.
Please tell us about your journey throughout the
education sector right from the beginning of your
career.
I started my career as a school teacher back in 2004. It was
when the usage of computers in education, i.e., teaching,
report generation, was almost nil. After three years, I got
the opportunity to teach at various colleges affiliated with
Bangalore University as an assistant professor. Ten years
later, I shifted to Surat and worked with one of the reputed
schools as a senior academic coordinator in a completely
digital format. Currently, I am working as founder principal
and heading a school working digital and focusing on
providing Learning Management System (LMS) that
provides the study material in the complete digital format.
What inspired you to step into the education industry?
Who were your role models growing up?
The respect, love, and affection that a teacher gets
throughout their life inspired me to enter the education
field. Growing up, my role models were Swami
Vivekananda and Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.
Tell us about your esteemed institute, its mission, and its
vision.
Education is about awakening to the power and beauty that
lies within all of us. Education as an idea is not just about
bricks, mortar, and concrete, but about building character,
enriching minds, and varied experiences that last a lifetime.
DELHI WORLD PUBLIC SCHOOL strives to give
students the all-around capability including creativity,
observation, and knowledge empowerment leading to the
generation of performing citizens with splendid character.
Mission- Delhi World Public School (DWPS),
Manendragarh seeks to create a feeling of curiosity and
discovery in each kid and a desire for experimentation,
observation, and synthesis. We endeavor to free the learning
process, to take it outside the four walls of classrooms to

36. How have using audiovisuals and other technological
advancements in education has changed learning?
I feel that interactive and online educational content is one
of the best ways to reach the new generation's very creative
students who want to learn through visuals at their learning
speed. It has redefined the entire learning procedure as it
simplifies the complex concepts into interactive and
exciting ways.

I was awarded the 'Asian education awards' for my

I was also recognised as the Most progressive coordinator
by 'Global Education awards' and 'Shourya Samman

What advice can you give to those who want to step into
the field of education?
My sincere advice to all those who wish to enter the field of
education will be to join only if they are passionate about
teaching and creating a difference in this society. Anyone
unwillingly entering this field will not only spoil one's life,
but it would spoil the lives of many students who come into
their hands.
Please share what lies ahead for you and your institution
in the near future.
I want to see my school grow as an institution known for
quality education in the near future. In a place like
Manendragarh, kids leave their parents at a young age and
go to bigger towns for their schooling. We want to stop this
practice so that the kids develop a good bond with their
parents and create memories for a lifetime. I want to
develop this school as a centre where students get prepared
for the competitive exams too. I want to see myself actively
contributing in the field of social service in the
near future.
I feel that interactive

from the beginning of your career
and your inspiration to pursue it.
During my post-graduation, I realised
that behind every great doctor, there is
a great teacher who instills not only
knowledge but also moral values in an

educator in the healthcare field to
shape new dentists with brilliant

headed this Group with vigor and
vitality. Its mission, vision, and core
values are:
Ÿ To transcend boundaries and be a

Ÿ To sculpture and produce moral,
civic, and socially responsible
professionals by providing
integrated dental education in a

We have been facing a pandemic for
two years now. During this time, the
biggest challenge was to continue
education while ensuring the safety of
students, and that brought online
education into the picture.
A new window of opportunity has
opened for the education sector; with
these interactive online classes, we get
to know those students, who were
earlier not able to reach any institute,
that too from the comfort of their
homes. The online education system
has redefined the learning process in a
whole new way. But it also has brought
new challenges to the surface. Online

teaching is cumbersome as well as the
process of learning is dependent on the
student. On the contrary, the offline
learning process gives control to the
teachers. We ensure students
understand this drawback of online
learning and encourage countering this
problem to attain satisfactory results.
What are the biggest challenges and
struggles faced by educators in
general?
In this competitive world with
constantly changing dynamics, the
biggest challenge for educators is to
instill discipline, determination, and
consistency in the learning process as
there is too much distraction out there.
The educators, in general, would often
find themselves in a dilemma whether
to orient the students to just focus on
the syllabus for good grades or to lead
them to explore the real world of their
prospective subjects. Every educator
must be updated with the changing
dynamics to encourage the students in
making careers not only in a
conventional stream but also in
extraordinary newly emerging streams.
Education is considered a tool of
empowerment. What efforts do you
and the institution take to make sure
that education is provided to those
who need it?
I am an Orthodontist by profession,
and being in the healthcare sector,
educating the people in the rural sector
about their health and well-being is of
main concern for me and my
institution. Our institute regularly
organizes many educational health
check-up camps to spread awareness
about maintaining their oral health.
The institute and I share a common
vision of educating people not only
inside the boundary of college but to
spread the knowledge outside the
institution also.
Kindly mention any of your awards,
accolades, and accreditations.
I have been awarded several awards in
the past years, including - the Women
of Substance Award 2022 in healthcare
(orthodontist) and Real Superwomen
2020 in healthcare (orthodontist).
What advice can you give to those
who want to step into the field of
education?
To be a part of the education field,
one's skills and knowledge have to
keep on upgrading. The education field
requires patience and discipline.
However, in the current scenario, an
educator should also have an open
mind to be able to learn from every
person around. We have to understand
that knowledge is not only confined to
books but beyond that too.
Please share what lies ahead for you
and your institution in the near
future?
Since the time and methodology have
changed a lot for me as an educator, I
have to focus more on innovating and
recreating new learning lessons than
following the conventional ones.

exciting journey during these twenty

What inspired you to step into the
field of education? Who were your

Since childhood, education has been
my passion, so I took teaching as my
profession. At this point, I have to
mention Dr. R. Venkata Ramanan. He
was my principal at school. His words,
"If a nation wants to achieve the

intelligentsia should get into teaching,"
always kept me inspired to move

What are the priorities of your

Vaaradhi is my brainchild; it aids in

destitute. It also aims to impart
knowledge and awareness with
regards to vital non-academic

Kindly share your views regarding
interactive, online educational
content in redefining the ways we
learn.
The COVID-19 pandemic has
disrupted the normal mode of learning
worldwide. Education as a whole
shifted online. Smooth transition to the
virtual world is quite a challenging task
for both students and teachers. Making
a continuous effort to provide
customized teaching and learning
material suitable for online education
is another challenge in facilitating. It is
my ardent belief
that the quality
of teaching and learning online by far
are the most important influences on
the students' cognitive, affective,
social, and behavioural outcomes.
Along with the shift to highly rigorous
achievement standards, improved
student assessments, precise focus on
data to implement instructions, and
personalization of learning through the
latest technology, I feel teaching is a
considerable responsibility. One needs
to be ever-ready and sufficiently
equipped to take on these hybrid roles
of techno teaching to face the
challenges of the new era.
What are the biggest challenges and
struggles faced by educators in
general?
I believe educators are nation builders.
Right from my childhood, I have
always wanted to teach. I trust and
believe that educating is not just a
profession but a process that needs
large amounts of commitment,
patience, and adaptability. Firstly, an
educator needs to balance diverse
student needs. A single topic to be

What advice can you give to those
who want to step into the field of

very vital part of our society. Their

challenge. Secondly, they need to adapt
to changing market trends and
synchronize teaching content
accordingly. Thirdly, it is quite a
tedious task to inspire students to be
disciplined, self-motivated, and
productive while meeting the
expectation of parents and the
management.
Education is considered a tool of
empowerment. What efforts do you
and your organization put in to
make sure that education is provided
to those who need it?
Education is the best tool to empower
an individual. As the saying goes,
"Don’t give them fish, teach them
fishing," if you provide individuals
with their necessities, it would be
temporary, but if we educate
individuals, they become self-
dependent and also improve their
perspective towards life. This is
exactly what Vaaradhi does. It assists
individuals who are not financially
equipped to obtain an education. We, at
Vaaradhi, emphasize more on higher
education as it helps individuals in
positioning themselves at a respectable
place in society. Across various
educational institutions, we identify
meritorious individuals who are
financially under-equipped and assist
them in continuing their education

Teachers in the current era carry an
incredible responsibility. They need to
understand that unlike other
professions, teaching is not just a mode
to make money but a method of
making lives. Teaching was never easy,
and it will never be so. One should
never take teaching as a mere
profession, but one should put in his
heart, commitment, and passion to be a
dedicated teacher. As a guru, one has to
be an inspirer and motivator; one needs
to be conscious that he handles young
minds which will be molded as per our
actions. Thus, he should feel that he is
entitled with an apex responsibility of
shaping futures.
Please share your future plans.
In a roller-coaster ride of 20 years, I
faced many challenges in living my
dream of being an able academician,
shaping futures, and making lives. My
morale shattered so badly at times that
I had to pull myself together with an
arduous effort from calling quits. But
by God's grace, every time I was
depressed, I bounced back like a
phoenix from ashes, more motivated
and more focused. With the continuing
support of my family, I, through
Vaaradhi, aim to continue my journey
and explore new avenues and
opportunities to render services to the
deprived and the destitute in procuring
necessary education at various levels.
In the coming years, I would dedicate
my time and resources to their
maximum extent in achieving the goals
of Vaaradhi, which is also my life’s
goal.

What advice can you give to those
who want to step into the field of
education?
Being in education is a rewarding
experience. Being an educator teaches
one to be empathetically organized and
infuses leadership skills as one gains
experience in teaching and mentorship.
For those of us who also conduct
research, we know very well: real
learning comes when we explain
concepts in our subjects of expertise to
others in a simplified manner and get
exposed to their questions and
perspectives that might have escaped
our own understanding. So it is not
only the students who are learners in a
classroom but also the teacher. I would
advise youngsters to consider
education as an important endeavour of
contribution to society, which requires
the best talents to join hands in shaping
our future as a nation.
Please share what lies ahead for you
and your institution in the near

As I mentioned before, being an

experience for me and my colleagues.

A Message for the Students
Dr. Preeti says, "Education is a never-
ending topic, and the more you learn
about it, the more you learn. Immerse
yourself in diverse writers' works and
read various books on your themes and
beyond until you find a story that
resonates with you. Learning can take
place anywhere, be a learner
throughout your life, and you shall
achieve new heights."
She believes that the students should
grab every opportunity that comes their
way, no matter how small or big it is.
She adds, "It doesn't matter whether
it's small or big as every opportunity
opens the door for the new one. Always
keep your spirits high and let your
confidence show through your work.
Be your mentor, decide what you want
to be, and don't dream because
someone else wants you to do so.”
Outlook for the Future
Dr. Preeti Bajaj envisions a university
where everyone feels valued and
appreciated regardless of race, gender
or religion. She advocates skill-based
India, Startup India, and dream for the
university wherein the students intend
to become job providers rather than the
seeker. She adds, "My priority is to
make the university get Accredited by
National and international agencies
and to be one of the most digitally
driven, internationally recognised
research-based University with
international accreditations."
