intellectually invigorating and
socially transformative space.
12. he Indian education sector has
Twitnessed positive
transformations. It is gradually
evolving and spreading its wings,
owing to which students have been
able to explore a plethora of
opportunities. However, this sector has
also experienced a fair share of
challenges.
But, just like every other industry, the
education sector of this nation has
witnessed the rise and dominance of
prominent leaders. These frontrunners
have given everything to ensure the
development of this sector. They are
the ray of hope, positivity, and
empowerment.
Characterized by dedication,

After completing PhD in comparative
literature, she conducted postdoctoral
research in a wide range of areas,
including women’s writing,
postmodernism, diaspora literature,
and South Asian literature.
As a distinguished academician and
administrator, she has played a key role
as a member-designate on several
distinguished national and international

Prof. Sunaina has the distinction of
being an institutional builder as the

Indo-Canadian Institute, a bi-national
research institution, headquarters in
New Delhi and Calgary with the
MHRD and Foreign Affairs Canada.
She’s also the former Vice Chancellor
of The English and Foreign Languages
University.
She has been a professor of English for
over 32 years, as well as a visiting

redesigning university pedagogical and
administrative systems through the
different assignments that she has been
entrusted with.
Many roles played by Prof. Sunaina

Department of English at Osmania
University, the Director of the
Canadian Studies Centre, and further
as the President of a bi-national
research organization where a
conglomerate of 90 higher education
institutions from India and Canada
participate.
Leadership worth Celebrating
Prof. Sunaina is among the most
prominent leaders in higher education
in the South Asian region. She is
engaged with the renaissance task of
rebuilding the renowned ancient
Nalanda University.
The honor of re-establishing this
international institution of ‘National
Importance’ has been entrusted to her
largely because of her widely
acknowledged inventive and sterling
leadership. The Oxford Union
conferred Prof. Sunaina with the
Honorary Professorship in 2020 in
recognition of her contribution to
promoting Indian higher education and
culture.
The citation also acknowledges her
leadership in rebuilding the historic

15. Prof. Sunaina has played a dynamic
role in both these institutions in
creating innovative research clusters,
reinvigorating the academic culture,
streamlining the administration, and
bringing about transparency and
accountability into the system. These
crucial interventions have helped steer
the institutions forward and enabled
them to emerge as important
institutions of higher learning in the
Asian region.
It is due to her sterling leadership that
after a span of 17 years, Central
University was accredited with an ‘A’
grade. It is also widely acknowledged
that the institutions have emerged out
of a critical period in their history
largely due to her determined and
indefatigable leadership.
Prof. Sunaina also held the first
convocation in the history of the
University's over 50 years journey. The
then President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee,
complimented her for her vision and
dedication.
Under the energetic leadership of Vice
Chancellor Prof. Singh, the last five
years have seen Nalanda University
(NU) transforming from an idea to
reality: academic framework; new
schools and centers; short programs;
enhanced student scholarships;
state-of-the-art infrastructure; and an
almost complete sustainable net-zero
campus.
The campus consists of 200 odd
structures, a health center, and library
automation. Prof. Sunaina took
policy initiatives such as statutes,
ordinances, and internal and external
audit systems along with measures
towards bringing accountability and
transparency.

Overcoming Adversities Confidently
As per Prof. Sunaina, it is everyone’s
uncompromising integrity, unshakeable
optimism, and enthusiasm that propel
them to defy all odds and stay focused
on their goals. She always stays
motivated by the high moral and
ethical standards of her father and
guru, Prof. Satyanarain Singh. Her
impeccable upbringing keeps on
inspiring her to set new benchmarks in
life.
When Prof. Sunaina took over as Vice-
Chancellor of the EFLU, the
University was in upheaval, with
frequent strikes. During that time, she
overcame myriad issues that came her
way with sheer determination and
enthusiasm.
“The rebuilding of Nalanda University,
has been the most challenging
assignment I’ve been entrusted with.
The name ‘Nalanda’is magical— a
reminder of the past glory of ancient
Indian academia and a lingering icon
that evokes the expectation to achieve
an ideal once again,” shares Prof.
Sunaina. According to her, its hallmark
is ‘liberated knowledge’ which is free
from the confines of geography or
spirituality.
In the opinion of Prof. Sunaina,
reviving the glorious knowledge
traditions of ancient India in a new
world of the modern age requires deep
thought, planning, and diligent action.
“Nalanda is a new avatar, and as we
know from our traditions, a new avatar
appears only when the turmoil and
dismay are at their peak!” quotes Prof.
Sunaina. She shares that there were
She believes combining classroom

She believes that to suit the needs and

demands of the 21 century;
universities need to build human
values, culture, and ethos through the
emerging knowledge domains.
Bringing a blend of academic
knowledge and experiential learning
into the learning environment is the
need. The effort of universities should
be to evolve innovative courses – a
marriage of ancient Indian wisdom
with contemporary polity, sciences,
and technology.
Prof. Sunaina Singh points out that
Nalanda University has innovative
specialised MA programs under a
cafeteria model and a Global PhD
programme. In addition, it has short-
term courses, e.g., capacity building
and leadership, ‘Pali/Sanskrit/
Tibetan/Korean languages’, ‘remote
sensing and GIS’, ‘Nalanda Heritage’,
'Consciousness Studies', 'Indo-Persian
Heritage' and so on that are popular.
Establishment of the Centre for Bay of
Bengal Studies at Nalanda and its
functioning as the nodal institution for
the ASEAN-India Network of
Universities (AINU) further adds to its
international stature.
In her opinion, universities should
provide platforms for cross-cultural
and transnational knowledge sharing
amongst scholars. In this connection,
the Common Archival Resource Centre

digitised archival and art treasures
from India and Southeast Asia for

Indian, she commenced work with grit
and honest dedication leading her
team. Owing to the government's
support, she could accomplish her
goals properly and with utmost
sincerity.
Uplifting the Education System and
the Society
As an academic, Prof. Sunaina is
mindful of the present and near-future
social concerns. “What we chose
as the logo of the University- depicting
the ‘Human-Nature
concord’reflects the ethos of
Nalanda,” she shares. Prof. Sunaina
tried to demonstrate this ethos in all
aspects of Nalanda’s creation and
development. She shares that
Nalanda offers an opportunity
to dispel the inner darkness and
bring enlightenment to present-day
society.
According to Prof. Sunaina, the
‘Nalanda Culture’ is all about
understanding and compassion;
politeness and discipline; learning
and service; and peace and progress.
Integrity is the armour of this culture;
integrity alone holds identity, culture,
and values. “Character, creativity,
and Competence shall be our
watchwords,” she quotes.
Emphasis on Experiential Learning
and Academic Research
Prof. Sunaina looks at education
from the lens of India’s ancient
‘Gyānparampara’ (knowledge
tradition), which involves a wide
spectrum of human development
and the unbroken tradition of
knowledge leading to the creation
of a knowledge society.
17. effort Prof. Sunaina commenced is the
‘Digital Data Credit Bank’ to benefit
students aspiring to study abroad.
Exploring the Future
In the opinion of Prof. Sunaina,
inspirations are never lost, motivations
last forever. She believes that people
who lived millennia ago are still
inspiring to present generations. Prof.
Sunaina always values discipline,
integrity, and responsibility as the
guiding principles of life. Her quest for
the future is always to develop her
inner strength and ethical values. She
reckons that this is enough to be
inspiring. “The vivacity of our
demeanour captivates and should
inspire everyone around us,” she
expresses.
confident individual rests on the
knowledge that ‘if we do not risk, we
fail.’ She advises them never to give
up. She believes that persistence does
pay.
Prof. Sunaina emphasizes the words of
Martin Luther King Jr. “We must
accept finite disappointments, but
never lose infinite hope.” She has
always believed that one must strive to
inspire and guide young minds to
approach life with integrity, and the
courage to speak the truth, as well as
stay true to one’s principles. “This
keeps me motivated to influence and
develop my students, faculty and staff
to be the best versions of themselves,”
she adds.
Motivational Words for Tomorrow’s
Generation
According to Prof. Sunaina, character,
creativity, and competence are the keys
to success and to enriching India’s
intellectual presence in this ever-
changing world. She strongly believes
that education leads to liberation.
Addressing the young generation, Prof.
Sunaina states that leadership
symbolizes the mind of the institution
because that only energizes the team
and directs the course. Correcting the
team's waywardness, complacency, and
distractions is a tough responsibility.
This requires grit and impartiality.
She states that not everything we
attempt succeeds. But the promise of a

he world in modern times is
Tunanimously standing against
discrimination and biasedness.
Individuals aren't the only voices calling
for social and economic equality around
the world. Organisations have also made
a statement. Variety of reactions from
corporations, small businesses, and
NGOs are that all attempt to denounce
racism and make commitments to better
justice, diversity, and inclusion.
Many senior leaders and HR
professionals are revaluating the
diversity and inclusion programmes
The
to
Inclusive
T
20. within their organisations and learning
that a reinvention may be necessary.
And the leaders that represent an
inclusive leadership style should be the
ones who spearhead this reinvention.
Empathy is the cornerstone of the
ability to emotionally connect with one
another in the workplace and beyond,
and it creates the environment for
inclusion and collaboration. Empathy
should not be a personal feeling, but
rather a public act. Empathy can propel
towards something worthwhile.
Empathetic leaders can inspire their
co-workers to be empathetic by
modelling empathy and engaging in
acts of inclusion, just as parents can
teach their children to be so. Thus, the
role of leaders in instilling inclusivity
at the workplace cannot be overlooked.
Leaders that are inclusive are
courageously vulnerable. In other
words, they bravely place themselves
in the places where they feel
vulnerable. Additionally, they are self-
aware enough to recognise and be open
about their own limitations. They
respectfully challenge others' ways of
thinking, solicit input from others, and
pose questions.
Enhancing Self Awareness
Ideal leaders create a strong base of
personal knowledge as their first
empowered act of inclusion. This may
occasionally entail seeking criticism,
owning up to mistakes and failings,
considering one's own upbringing,
background, and social identity,
sharing feelings and experiences, or
standing up for one's own demands.
To be able to participate in acts of
inclusion or practise allyship, these
leaders have a high level of self-
awareness. They can recognise their
own biases, strengths, and
the difficulties your team is
encountering. You improve efficiency,
inclusion, and communication skills as
well as your ability to handle
disagreements.
Fostering Social Relationships
A connection is a link created between
individuals with the aim of enhancing,
bolstering, and strengthening their
relationship. The social network will
be more diverse as a result of those
ties. Making social relationships
increases the chances of having what
leaders need to enhance inclusion in
the workplace.
Leaders can build a culture where all
the employees will have the quality to
build social interaction. This will allow
them to create an inclusive and happier
workplace. When social relationships
are weak, people are more likely to feel
alone, afraid, distrustful, and have
restricted access to information, and
their performance at work will suffer.
Diverse social networks and a
network-wide perspective are crucial in
an organisation because they
encourage information from many
sources and viewpoints. Those
viewpoints increase the ability to deal
with differences, especially during a
crisis. It is important to have diverse
social networks. These qualities make
a leader more flexible, agile and
resilient.
Forward-thinking companies are aware
that creating a culture of inclusive
leadership and diverse teams that work
well together requires careful resource
allocation but will yield a worthwhile
return in the form of increased
employee engagement and satisfaction,
innovation capabilities, and capacity to
tackle difficult problems.
shortcomings, and be at ease in their
own skin. If leaders are confident in
themselves, that self-assurance will
permeate all of their other inclusive
leadership behaviours.
Being Socially Aware
Social awareness, a component of
emotional intelligence, develops from
self-awareness. The basis of
conversation and interactions with
others is social awareness.
People who lack social awareness find
it difficult to communicate or have a
propensity for saying the wrong things
at the wrong times.
Leaders can build an inclusive culture
by keeping an eye on what's going on
around them and using their
knowledge. If a new employee is hired,
they can spend some time getting to
know them, showing them around, and
offering to help them settle in. Simple
gestures of inclusivity can contribute to
creating a respectful workplace
atmosphere.
Being an Ideal Listener
When used properly, listening is a
powerful tool that may reveal three
things to the listener: facts, as well as
underlying emotions and values.
It is common for team members to
raise concerns and talk about the things
that bother them at the workplace. At
these moments, leaders must listen
closely and understand what they are
going through. Leaders are expected to
aid these employees. Issues raised by
them can be about discrimination and
unfair practices in the workplace. This
can be the moment one effective
listening technique.
By going beyond active listening,
listening to comprehend allows you to
have a more complete understanding of

23. Life is full of challenges; the more
challenges you have, the stronger you
become and changes one’s perspective
towards life. This is how and why I
started my journey of professional life.
My career journey started as a simple
BPO customer care executive, then a
Manager in the Banking sector that
took me to a position I could never
dream of as an HR and PR Head in the
Marketing and Consulting firm with
stakeholders in the Hospitality
Industry. Having spent 24 years as a
working professional, I have had an
enriching experience working on and
understanding varied industries.
After working with almost all sectors,
there was no mental peace and inner
satisfaction. I stopped myself and took
a break from my work for two years.
There was a 360 degree turnaround in
my vision because of this one thought
to have a purposeful life, due to which
I joined the education sector in 2015
with a mission of touching and
nurturing millions and millions of lives
and raising them to be the leaders who
can make this world a better place to
live in and then started my
entrepreneurial journey in 2017.

values of your organization.
Our passion is to create a peaceful
society, spread happiness and inspire

Our vision and mission is to introduce

What challenges you came across in
your career, and how did you
overcome them?
Where there is life, there are ‘Ups and
Downs.’ Life is not easy, but we can all
make our lives beautiful by just one
understanding – ‘We are born for a
purpose which only we can fulfil.’
Create a mission for yourself and work
towards that mission; this is how we
can make our lives meaningful and can
overcome all obstacles.
As an inspiring leader, what

According to you, which activities
the Indian education should conduct
on the campuses to indulge the
necessary skills in students?
Conducting practical skills training on
the campuses, project-based learning,

always be skills and values that help an
individual to become a ‘Humanistic

25. Dr
Vityala
Medical science has changed
the perspective of people in
the world!
These advancements in the medical
field have helped and saved humanity
from the cruelty of nature and human
actions. And the world has witnessed
that during their importance during
uncertainties, where doctors, with the
help of science, have performed
miracles to overcome these.
Also, during the recent COVID-19
pandemic, which the world has
suffered for two years and still
recovering from its adversities, it was
doctors all across the world
persistently serving humanity and
fighting against the deadly virus by
putting their lives at stake.
Moreover, medical scientists
continuously researched and invented a
vaccine to stop the virus's adverse
effects by improving people's
immunity and helping them fight
against the virus. Evidently, numerous
other deadly and harmful diseases are
available in the world, and saving from
those diseases, scientists played a
significant role in the healthcare
industry.
One leading the advancements in the
field of healthcare is
Dr Yethindra Vityala, the world's
youngest scientist in medicine, and
being a passionate scientist, he has
conducted various research in the
healthcare sector. Apart from research,
he has also authored two books; in
2018, 'Essentials of Hematology:
Inside Hematology,' published in three
different languages, i.e., English,
Hindi, and Russian.
Other than that, his second book, 'The
Historical Development of the Heart,
i.e., from its Formation…,' published in
2019, was recognized worldwide and
made a place for itself in the Guinness
world record for the longest book title.
As an ingenious youth, he has
completed 51 medical courses from
reputable universities and published 40
research articles/papers in numerous
reputed journals.
In the quest for 'Most Inspiring
Leaders Making a Difference in
India, 2023,’ we, The Knowledge
Review, crossed paths with Dr
Yethindra Vityala, a Young Scientist
and Doctor, and learned about his
success story, achievements and future
vision.
To learn detailed information about an
eminent scientist and doctor, read
ahead.
The Journey of the Magnanimous
Scientist
Dr Vityala Yethindra is World's
Youngest Scientist in Medicine and a
twelve-time world record holder. He
has received national and international
awards; he is also the author of two
books. Moreover, he has published 40
research articles in reputable journals
and completed 51 medical courses
from reputed universities.
After clinching abandon of knowledge
in the medical sector, he evolved a
significant interest in the education
space and obtained an opportunity to
contribute to society by educating
young minds, which is closely
associated with people's psychological
and social development.

26. According to Dr Vityala, education
space frequently assists with
challenges and mental activity of
humans. And it is essential to generate
the critical spirit of the student by
teaching them the various perspectives
of thinking and observing things.
While mentioning the idea which
inspired him to work in the education
sector, Dr Vityala says, "The biggest
thing that motivated me to work in
education space was the opportunity to
mentor students, encourage the
development of the students both
academically and personally, and
foster good attitudes."
Igniting the fire of education among
the lower income group and
underprivileged children, Dr Vityala
conducted the campaign 'Power of
your intelligent minds' on poor and
underprivileged students in India
(Warangal, Hyderabad) and
Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek), which reached
more than two thousand students
within two years (2016-2018).
Moreover, the campaign has shown
positive results, and children from rural
areas have begun attending schools
regularly.
In 2020 -2022, Dr Vityala ran a
Yethindia COVID-19 Awareness
Campaign (the world's first QR-code-
based awareness campaign) where he
successfully notified 1918 students
from 15 government schools of
Warangal (Telangana) about social
distancing.
The campaign provided accurate
information to people; however, it also
supported other campaigns like 'Digital
India' and 'Save Paper, Save Trees,
Save Planet.' And this campaign also
received appreciation from Rashtrapati
Bhavan (President's Secretariat), New
Delhi and Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot,
Hon'ble Governor of Karnataka.
Science-Paved the Way of Medicine
Science has never been the best subject
of Dr Vityala. Still, with his
challenging attitude, he opted for
medicine in his college to prove that
nothing is impossible and achieved
tremendous success. Coping with
various challenges, he stayed up
exceptionally late studying and
achieved distinction during graduation.
Constituting how science and medicine
pilot success in his career, Dr Vityala
asserts, "I always think to bring
changes in things which are different,
difficult and longed to do. I always
believed in the five-word maxim, never
give up and quit. I have always
embraced challenges, which are
necessary for growth and a
constructive outlook on self-
correction."
"My daily motivation comes from the
timely completion of my work at the
end of the day and from realizing that I
have improved the lives of numerous
patients and their families. I'll never
forget the joy in their expressions;
seeing them improve makes me want to
work more. Treating patients and
glimpsing their happiness is the only
reason I became a doctor and
scientist," said Dr Vityala.
Sliding down his gratitude, he asserts,
"I had a vision of helping and
empowering many more students of
various ages and countries. I believe
that 'education does not change the
world but changes the people who are
going to change the world.' This
motivates me to conduct campaigns

sector."
Stop Being the Chess Piece; Become
the Player!
There is a famous saying, "Excuses
will always be there for you, but
opportunities won't." Since childhood,
we have all been listening that
opportunities won't come again and
again; they come only once, and we
have to grab them.
Similarly, when we were discussing the
opportunities which Dr Vityala came
across in the Indian education space, in
response, Dr Vityala postulated, "I
always tried to attempt to do new and
difficult things, such as completing 51
courses in nine days, authoring books,
conducting research, working
continuously in a lab, and running
campaigns."
While stating more about the
opportunities, he says, "Right from the
initial days of my work, I tried to grab
and tried to take opportunities instead
of waiting for them. During the
COVID-19 situation, I reached more
than 2800 students through conducting
184 webinars and meetings on various
platforms like Skype and Zoom in
different medical colleges in
Telangana, Andhra Pradesh (India)
and Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan); I also
cleared all queries of students in their
academic and medical research."
"Furthermore, I helped 324 peers and
48 PhD students with academic and
research methodology for free; I
further helped them conduct research

the Guinness World Record for the
'longest title of a book.' And in the
same year, I received six world
records for my research activities
as the world's youngest scientist in
medicine. I currently hold 12 world
records.
Ÿ As a researcher, I proved that
fluoxetine and doxycycline inhibit
SARS-CoV-2 replication in-vitro;
evaluated the safety and efficacy of
umifenovir, heparin, itolizumab,
and rivaroxaban on COVID-19
patients; and achieved positive
results.
Ÿ I also assisted in developing
remdesivir and constructed a VYTR

inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 in vitro.
Ÿ I was the first to discover, report,
and publish new and rare case
reports on diseases such as
frontal-lobe epilepsy,
neurofibromatosis, and ischemic
stroke.
Ÿ I represented India at 15
international conferences, delivered
presentations, and won eight
awards.
Ÿ I conducted 54 research studies and
published 42 articles in top peer-
reviewed journals."
Clenching Conviction and View
When we asked Dr Vityala about his
opinion and thoughts on the Indian
education system and its changing
landscape, he stated, "The Indian
education system is complex, where
every city/state has its own
independent state education
board/university governing body along
with other local authorities responsible
for regulating schools."
"Even though there are a lot of positive
changes performed policy-wise in the
existing education, but the ground
reality and application of change has
been considered long-term results and
sustainability, which includes concept-
based education model in science
subjects along with hands-on
experience. And provides higher scope
in research instead of emphasizing rote
learning. Indian educational system
provides students only theoretical
knowledge, but it is crucial to imply
theoretical knowledge into practice. As
said, theory without practice is blind,
just as practice without theory is
sterile," says Dr Vityala.
Words of Wisdom
While advising future medical
students, Dr Vityala asserts, "Begin to
think for yourself. Do not just rely on
advice from others but rely on your
rational analysis of observed realities
to draw your inferences. Even so, this
is merely a suggestion or input rather
than advice."
and acquire positive results in
universities. This helped me to gain
knowledge and motivate me to be a
student forever and learn more from
creative young minds during an
interaction," further constituted by
Dr Vityala.
Dr Vityala's Roaring Success
When we were discussing the thinking
and initiatives of Dr Vityala, he also
mentioned the award and overall
achievements of his life till now, and
he notes,
Ÿ "In 2018, I successfully passed 51
medical courses from top
universities around the world and
wrote 'Essentials of Hematology:

30. The thought of pursuing
education in foreign countries
excites not only the students
but also their parents.
However, more than this is needed to
get admission to foreign countries, one
should know about the country,
university and many other factors. In
the fast-pacing world, one has to face
massive competition in every field and
to stand out of the lane; one has to
cater skills and knowledge that assist
many career opportunities.
While probing the thought of getting
higher education in whichever country,
the parents and students require
someone experienced who can guide
them throughout the process and help
them to get their desired goal.
Moreover, an educational consultant
plays a vital role in assisting and
helping the aspirants to get a clear
vision of their desired future; along
with this, they make the whole
admission process hassle-free for
students and their parents.
Students who want to pursue their
education overseas are in dire need of
consultants as it is not easy to get
admission in foreign countries.
To ease the process, the consultants
evaluate the student's academic
performance, their interested fields,
country and budget; accordingly, they
suggest suitable courses; also, the
consultants help the students and
parents in the whole admission process

Emerging Need for International
Education
With the immense and rapid
technological development, the
companies are representing themselves
globally and raising their business
standards; the firms look for pupils
who have studied from abroad
universities.
As per QS Global Employer Survey
Report, six out of ten employers
around the world emphasize more on
international students' experience, and
more than 80 per cent of employers
said that they seek graduates with
foreign degrees because of their
enthusiasm towards exploring
innovative ways and the confidence to
resolve the challenges helps them to
achieve their desired goals.
While stating further, Kavitta says,
"Having studied abroad myself, I have
experienced the troubles that a student
faces in making these decisions. When
we are looking to study abroad or
make a career decision that will affect
our entire life, we want to be sure that
the person is reliable and trustworthy.
While going through the process, I
realized it was just a business model
for many counsellors without having
the student interest at heart. Having
faced this myself, I was determined to
help others and make sure they could
depend on making their choices in
amalgamation with my opinions. Many
people might believe that we are in the
business of exporting talent to other
countries, but in reality, I am working
to make our young people globally
competitive."

is to thrust the importance of education
into every individual mind and make

Studying abroad indeed doubles the

Indian students, however, it has always
been challenging to identify a
reputable education consultant due to
the oversaturation of small, medium,

Kavitta has won many hearts and made
many people's dreams come true by

Catalyzing Motivation
The best counselling involves more
than just aptitude tests, profiles, and

discussion of goals, talents, and
hobbies. Knowing this, Kavitta always
takes a mentoring approach, which has

Words of Wisdom
While advising the future generation,
Kavitta asserts, "The shift toward skill-
based hiring in the corporate sector
demonstrates that other factors will be
used to evaluate an individual's
aptitude besides diplomas. Our
educational system could use some
reform, but that does not mean we

attentive learning is crucial.

Envisaging the Future
While sharing her vision, Kavitta

YouTube channel, which will be
informative and rich in content,

Brand
Management Strategies
hoosing the right option for a
CK-12 school is one of the most
vital decisions a family can
make. The education, environment, and
experiences a child has during their
formative years can drastically
influence their overall happiness, their
outlook and philosophy on life, and the
opportunities they can enjoy as an
adult.
Therefore, brand management
strategies in the world of K-12
Education emphasize efficiency,
creativity, and maintaining the quality
of educational services.
Revamped technology has introduced
fresh opportunities in the education
industry. With competition soaring
high in the K12 education institutions,
many nonprofit institutions as well as
for-profit institutions are creating brand
management strategies to build
awareness for their institutions.
Brand management in the education
industry focuses on school community
engagement. How you engage with the
community, what you offer your
students, and the values that permeate
the academic environment you provide
are all part of brand experience and
brand positioning.
Brand Positioning:
One of the most significant things you
can do to ensure your educational
institution is successful is to have a
clear brand positioning. In higher
parents and students you are targeting.
Different personas for different sections
of the target demographic needs to be
created as an educational institution
does not cater to one specific kind of
parent. There are many defined
segments when it comes to a school. It
all boils down to surveying, reviewing,
and changing according to your brand's
needs.
Identifying Relevant Key
Performance Indicators (KPI):
The general goal of every institution is
to increase enrollment numbers. In order
to facilitate growth, KPIs like footfall or
walk-in enquiries generated, call to
action (CTA) conversion rates, the
contribution of traffic sources, and
social media engagement can be
considered. KPIs can track whether your
key objectives are on track, behind,
ahead, or complete and accordingly give
you a more actionable metric to put your
efforts into. Social media engagement
can be affected in many ways. However,
for K-12 marketing services, this may
not be practical, and social media
marketing may play a less significant
role in general.
Enhanced Brand Experience:
A parent can espy a brand if it is built on
a number of marketing factors such as
setting up a dialogue room and
displaying collaterals, brochure, videos
and brand playbook, digital and social
media management, public relations,
events, direct marketing and lead
generation campaigns.
education programs, students have a
voice, they prepare themselves for
high-paying careers through
partnerships and internship programs
that play an essential role.
Brand management strategies in K-12
educational institutions are more
parent-focused while keeping the
students at the center. A new era of
parents who are seeking to enroll their
children in K-12 programs are exposed
to the growing influence of technology.
In today's time, educational institutions
cater to national and international
curriculum and thus provide a variety
of learning options for students and
parents to choose from. The offerings
an institution includes are quality
education and upbeat infrastructure.
Therefore, while creating a marketing
plan, we need to keep in mind the
demographics and psychographic.
Even the technological influence
amongst the parents is impacting their
informed decisions.
To succeed in today's highly
competitive and evolving educational
marketplace, institutions must either
redefine how their current offerings can
meet those new needs or revise their
offerings to provide educational
institutions with solutions to meet their
problems.
Defining Appropriate Personas:
Through marketing segmentation you
will need to create personas for the

36. Brand Style Guide:
Keeping your target audience in mind,
you need to maintain a consistent
brand image to create a brand recall
and recognition value. Maintaining
uniformity is not only true for branding
on correspondence and letterheads but
is also true for the type of language
you use in any online social media
post. This includes your content, color
schemes such as those used
consistently by major social media
networks. These brand traits are what
we call the brand style guide.
Digital and Social Media Marketing:
Website is the most important aspect of
the brand experience. Your website
should include all the details pertaining
to the academic insights, initiatives,
awards, offerings and facilities. An
incomplete and a not mobile-friendly
website will have a negative impact on
your branding strategies. Social media
engagement is most prevalent among
the parent and students
community that can be
used to share learning experiences
relevant to them.
Public Relations:
With several institutions mushrooming
at a rapid pace these days, it has
become imperative for educational
institutes to differentiate their brand in
the market, keep competition at par
and establish themselves as a leader in
the sector. PR enables education
institutes to enhance their brand
visibility, making it easier for the target
audience to know more about the
institute on the web without having to
visit in person. A PR plan can be taken
into action such as arranging
community events, giving press
releases, and arranging for promotional
content to be produced. Best type of
influencers can be your current
students who can share their personal
experiences which can be recorded
online, published in student blogs, or
even used in school newsletters.
Similarly, alumni can share how the
institution prepared them for life skills
and shaped them into future ready
global citizens.
Events:
Events whether virtual or in-person
can also be a great way to
connect with prospective
families and
introduce them to your school and put
forward your brand experience. You
could host informative sessions that
allow both parents and students to
explore your programs, courses,
extracurricular activities, and much
more. Inter-school competitions and
events can highlight the capabilities of
your institution and can bring a lot of
public attention.
Digital and Traditional Marketing
Aspects:
A 360 degree campaign by running
digital and traditional marketing
strategies can be generated to engage
the audience directly and can include
various media vehicles such as social
media ads, search engine, etc., in
digital mediums and billboards, bus
shelters, newspaper, etc., in traditional
mediums.
In addition, you can put tactical
campaigns into effect to bolster any
weak areas in your marketing strategy
or to keep your marketing efforts going
in the right direction.
Generation of Reports:
Keeping a track of the efficacy of your
marketing campaigns is crucial while
executing marketing strategies. By
employing digital tools, you can track
your lead through impression,
conversion, and finally, enrollment. It
will also be highly valuable to
centralize your marketing reporting so
that resources can be allocated
where needed without the
institution becoming
complacent.

something that keeps on
moving in a circle, coming back again
to remind us about the almost forgotten
knowledge. And children are stuck on
the screens consuming and collecting
information and knowledge
uninterrupted and unfiltered for their
young and budding minds.
Traditionally, childhood was seen as a
phase where it was a joy being a child
and learning the way the world works
in an interesting and indulging manner.
However, despite the fact that the
popularity of the internet is immensely
increasing among children, the
learning arc of the children is observed
to be lost somewhere in the process.
Addressing this specific need of the

And in an indulging exchange of words
with The Knowledge Review, Lina

Learning's story and how it holistically
influences children's learning arc.
So, let's dive deep into the curious
story of Lina Ashar.
Please tell us about your professional
journey since the beginning of your
career.
Before moving to Australia, I did my
primary schooling in England, where I
acquired a Bachelor's degree in
Education from Melbourne's Victoria
College. In 1991, I came to India on a
year-long sabbatical from college.
While connecting with my roots, I
landed up taking a teaching stint at a
prestigious heritage school in suburban
Mumbai. This experience changed my
life and led to the burning question,
"How can I bring back the joy of
childhood for the children in India?"
Back then, the education system in
India was still grappling with a strait
jacketed approach to education. It was
robbing children of their childhood. I
was appalled by a lacklustre system of
education that upheld only the
highflyers. Crammed classrooms,
disinterested students, and over-
stressed parents inspired me to work on
a model of education that was
fulfilling, effective, and yet stress-free.
That's when I started Kangaroo Kids
preschool; after that, it has been an
upward journey and this year, I
launched Dreamtime Learning.
Tell us the vision, mission, and core
values of the organization.
The mission of Dreamtime Learning is
to provide greater access to quality
learning that will allow each learner in
the learning ecosystem to become the
best version of themselves at a
demonetized price. The learning design
is based on the science of learning. It
uses the basis of brain and behavioural
science and skills needed by learners
based on the shift the economy and
world will experience based on
technology.
The organization's core values are
'Purpose, Growth Mindset, Courage,
Transparency, and Sustainability.'
And the vision statement states, "To
create empowered thought leaders who
will lead the world to a more
conscious, connected and abundant
future."

learner-centric preschool focused on
learning while having fun and not just
for an interview to get admission to a
well-known school. When parents saw
the difference, they wanted a higher
education school, too, so we started
Billabong High. We have been the
pioneers in changing the education
scene. We created a learner-centric,
neuroscience-based experiential
curriculum and also worked on all-
around learning where children were
also introduced to Sports and
Performing Arts and many other
institutes that have followed our
model.
We look to disrupt the perception of
learning, schooling and education yet
again. Why is the transformation of the
education system urgent now? We
argue that the world is at an inflexion
point. Climate change, the changing
nature of work, increasing conflict and
authoritarianism, and the urgency of
COVID recovery have made the
transformation agenda more critical
than ever.
We will also be engaging with our
Australian family company, Simba
Global, which will donate 5 per cent of
its profits to educate children that
cannot afford our subsidized fees.
Simba Global will provide children
with the technology. Dreamtime
Learning will provide the learning
system at no cost to the end learner.
What challenges you came across in
your career, and how did you
overcome them?
When we started Kangaroo Kids,
education was all about rote learning
and scoring well. It was difficult to
convince parents initially. However,
once they experience the difference,
they become our advocates and brand
ambassadors. Also, running a business
comes with its issues, and despite all

make learning fun and experiential for
children. With a team that believed in
this vision, we crossed all the hurdles
that came our way.
I am going through the same process
with our online school, Dreamtime
Learning; however, I am sure once
parents and children experience the
learning difference, they will become
our brand ambassadors.
As an inspiring leader, what
difference you made in your
segment, and how did it help the
upcoming generation?
As mentioned earlier, we have been the
pioneers in the education space, and
the new education system one sees in
place today is my contribution to the
segment. The generation that was
educated in the last two decades has
experienced the difference; a lot of our
students are well-placed professionals,
artists and sports people. If you see, the
most sought-after jobs today are the
ones that did not exist a decade before,
and we made sure children were
introduced to them so that they could
choose what they wanted to do in life.
According to you, which activities
the Indian education should conduct
on the campuses to indulge the
necessary skills in students?
Education is all about wholesome
learning, and there are a lot of things
schools should be teaching children,
some of them are:
Ÿ How to manage and regulate your
emotions and reactions
Ÿ How to manage your finances and
how to save
Ÿ How to manage uncertainty
Ÿ How to work in teams and
collaborate with people
Ÿ How to focus on your life journey
rather than fall into a rat race of
wanting to go ahead of another
Ÿ How to enjoy nature and family
time
Ÿ How to balance work and personal
life
Ÿ How to prioritize one's mental well
being
Ÿ How to use digitization to our
advantage and beware of its
superficial nature.
We have created a learning system that
is the driven and
science of learning
intersects in these three areas.
Neuroscience of learning and
development, behavioural science of
learning and development and
the future context of
understanding what will
be needed to thrive
emotionally,
financially,
cognitively and
physically.
As an inspiring leader, what are the
things that keep motivating you to
make a difference in the country?
My vision is to take quality education
to every child across the country; this
desire keeps me going, and I work
towards my goal. Technology is a
medium that has helped me reach cities
I hadn't been able to in the past, and I
am now working towards reaching out
to more such cities.
How do you inspire the youth to
become fearless and inspirational
leaders to create innovative changes
in the country?
When children find their calling, or
Ikigai as they call it, they ask the
important why questions and look for
solutions and innovative ways to cross
hurdles that come their way. Children
are motivated to work towards getting
better at it on a daily basis. So, in my
school, they are encouraged to find
their calling.
What advice would you provide to
future generations to become
inspiring leaders?
The future is uncertain, and the one
thing the future generation will need to
do is become lifelong learners. They
will need to upgrade and upskill
themselves at all times to be ahead of
everyone else, as the rate at which
things change will be 10X faster than
today. The future generation will also
need to think creatively, become
problem solvers, and become team
players. So, they need to work on these
skills as of today so that they can thrive
in their lives.
How do you envision your future as
a successful and inspiring leader?
I am an educator at heart, and I will
keep exploring new ways to educate
children so that they can benefit from
the process.

Understanding Leadership
40 | April 2023
Leaders are all things at once,
especially in a small
organisation. Managers handle
general business operations, and
supervisors keep an eye on staff, but
leaders guide the staff and inspire them
to be the best version of themselves.
44. Additionally, leaders need to determine
which jobs might serve as training
assignments for their staff. Employees
must advance their skill sets in order
for the organisation to change.
Employees can obtain knowledge,
background, and experience through
developmental assignments by taking
on challenging jobs. While completing
the activity for the first time,
employees must be allowed the
flexibility to learn and make mistakes.
Employees must be empowered by
their managers and given some
discretion when making judgements.
Giving people the freedom to exercise
their independence promotes
innovation, dialogue, teamwork, and
increased output. Additionally, it
enables workers to make choices and
grow from their errors.
Having an Eye for Innovation
Some small firms are resistant to
technology. Larger businesses are
frequently the first to adopt new
business ideas. A somewhat recent
example is social networking, where
the majority of major corporations
have established profiles across several
online niches. Small businesses are
gradually embracing this trend to
broaden their customer base, but many
of these companies lack the resources
necessary to fully take advantage of
this new advertising channel or don't
perceive any direct advantages to
doing business online. Small business
owners who want to keep up with or
perhaps get ahead of the larger herd
should accept change.
Leaders cannot expect their staff to be
a creative machine when they are
resting on their laurels. A leader who is
successful must be innovative. It is
their responsibility to think creatively
and unconventionally and to encourage
the team to do the same. Great leaders
are able to assist their team
comprehend broader, longer-term goals
by seeing the bigger picture. Teams
want to know that their leaders are
aware of trends and ready for the
future, and leaders who innovate
demonstrate this to their teams by
being current and relevant. They thus
acquire knowledge of innovation and
technological trends and routinely
apply it to their business. This makes it
more likely that they won't go out of
style. Innovative and unconventional
leaders inspire their team members to
embrace the vision and tap into their
creativity.
Brushing Up Leadership Skills
Continuously
Good leaders are aware of the
importance to brush up the leadership
qualities and bring the necessary
changes in their leadership approaches.
Leaders must work hard and practise
being a good leader every day if they
want to continue to be one. Reading
books or articles, listening to podcasts,
attending workshops, or even returning
to school to earn a different degree are
all possible ways to do this. By
showing their employees that they are
committed to improving themselves,
leaders show their employees that they
are committed to learning about new
techniques and trends. This may
motivate workers to work on their own
personal development. A good leader is
constantly seeking for ways to
improve, build stronger relationships
with their team members, and become
the greatest leader they can be.
It is essential to stay current with the
new trends in businesses in order to
lead the business effectively. Leaders
can learn new things and get inspired
by other leaders.
Leaders are produced and sculpted by
the always shifting corporate
environment. For a small organisation
to successfully lead itself into long-
term solvency and prosperity, the
essential principles of leadership
properly integrate both logic and
feeling.
Employee awareness of organisational
goals and their individual contribution
to achieving them must be fostered by
managers. Setting direction for the
team and starting the daily tasks
required to successfully complete the
organization's overarching goals is
what it means to lead.
The amount of work required to lead
people varies on a variety of variables,
including the authority level of the
leader, the number of employees who
report directly to him or her, the
experience level of the direct reports
(and the leader), and any other
technical or practical duties the leader
is required to perform.
Being a Catalyst in Employees'
Growth
Being able to inspire the team and
assign tasks effectively are essential
leadership skills. Employees must be
given the knowledge and tools they
require to execute their work, and
leaders must be willing to have tough
talks when tasks are not successfully
accomplished.
A leader should regularly monitor
employee behaviour and be aware of
each team member's skills and
weaknesses before asking them to do
new assignments. Delegation will be
facilitated by having a thorough
understanding of each employee's
strengths, aptitudes, and capabilities.
When assigning tasks to staff members,
managers should be aware of their
professional aspirations and skills.
