Core Skills & Experience
From leaving school my desire was to join the army and serve for my country. I
joined the Queens Lancs Regiment and served 5 and a half years as a front line
soldier. Whilst in the army, I acquired many transferrable skills, such as discipline,
time keeping and team working. I was also the team medic in Northern Ireland. I also
won many events such as the best soldier of the year in 2001. I made the cross
country team and boxed for my regiment many times.
I left the army, with Exemplary Grade, to buy a home and settle down with my
partner.
Since leaving the army in 2004, I joined City Link. I started as a multi drop driver
achieving 95 drops per day. I was then offered a job working in the office at City
Link as part of the control team. In 2012 my skills were recognised and I was
temporarily seconded to the Early Shift Supervisor role. During this time I won
Employee of the Month for the Preston depot and also Employee of the Month for the
whole North region. In December 2012, I secured the role of Early Shift Manager on
a substantive basis in December 2013. I am now over seeing over 50 drivers and have
responsibility for compliance and finance control. I have managed to develop many
skills on the way and complete a number of courses such as, FLT, presentations skills
