3. Research
What I did for my research. I made questionnaires and gave people interviews about my
project. I got information about the interests of my audiences. This helps me a lot as I have
knowledge of what my audience would want for my project which would help me attract
those audiences. I then went on to research many other comics which would be relatable to
the audiences results. I found many different features, styles, story and layouts of other
products such as lord of the rings which gave me ideas for mythical beasts and fantasy
weapons and armoury. I also looked at comics which gave me knowledge of how different
scenes are worked. This then allowed me to explore my skills and knowledge of how comics
work.
however the audience research did take a lot of time to do and I haven’t researched on
many people which means I only researched on a certain group which would create a
biased view. Also this type of research may not work as many people have different
interests which would create a random result in the end. Also researching existing products
may have been useless as I already have knowledge of comics and I have already planned a
story.
Overall my final comic supported the research I did as many features of the comics related
to the results of my audience research. This shows from the research I have done supported
my final project.
4. Planning
To plan my final project I had to first plan a story. This was easy as I use to make story's when I
was younger as wanted to create a comic since I was I child. I then edited the story to suite my
audience which was very useful as it made the story way more intriguing and tense. Which also
helped with the story I gathered inspiration from popular comics and movies such as lord of the
rings, game of thrones and berserk. This helped me think of fantasy ideas and story based ideas. I
then written down what would happen on each page of the story so that I have an idea of what
to draw on each page. This helped a lot as I only have a limited amount of pages to draw on
because of the audiences preferred amount of pages. I then had to plan my boxes on each page
so I roughly sketched the drawing to see if it worked and then I added the boxes after. Finally I a
neatly drew the story neatly as possible.
my planning took a very long time which gave me a lot of stress as I had no time to making all my
comic. Some of my research to plan the story could be pointless as already had a plan to begin
with and some of the research gave me little amount of inspiration.
Overall my planning mostly helped me as for my final project which turned out to be very
professional looking however I haven't finished all my pages as the planning took massive
amounts of my time.
5. Time Management
I think my time management was unsuccessful so I didn't’t finish my comic in time.
firstly I had no idea how to start as I didn't’t know what project I wanted to do. When I
finally thought of a project i started with planning which also took the majority of my
time as I had many power points to do. I then had to research while planning which
took a long time because I had to find people to fill my questionnaire and to interview.
Then I had to wait for my results taking more time. Finally i started my comic but I did
not have any time finish it and each page took hours to make.
Overall I ended up making 3 pages and a comic cover which is disappointing as I
didn't’t finish my story which also means I didn’t accept my audiences research
results.
6. Technical Qualities
My comic and berserk
are both black and
white games with a
fantasy genre.
My comic is different from this comic
as my comic has a lighter tones style
with simple textures where as
berserk has many dark shaded tones
with a lot of gritty detail.
My comics protagonist differs a lot
form the berserks protagonist as
my character is a child with positive
attitude however berserks
character is very sinister and dark.
Berserks character has a lot of armour in his design is
more mature and gritty however my character a very
young with a no armour at all. The similarities with the
characters design is that they both wear caped and
where belts and boots. They both also have swords.
Both comics have sound effect titles to
make the scene feel more alive. This is
used a lot in comics as there is no
sound to so that the titles replace it
making the illusion of sound.
The setting and genre
is very similar as it set
in a fantasy world
which includes
creatures such as
goblins, werewolf's
and orcs. The
characters fight the
evil and saves the
good. Both comics
include graphic and
violent scenes.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think my final product is really
creative and different to other
comics. I have stuck with a fantasy
style story with dark gritty scenes
which relates to my audience
research. I did want to make my
story longer with all sorts of
dramatic scenes however I had a
little amount of time as my planning
took a long time. I could have also
added way more detail to all my
pages to make it look more artistic
and stylised. My cover I think is way
to bright however it gives a nice
fantasy look. The detail in shading of
the tree is makes it life like. The title
is very fancy but not but enough. I
think the best part of my comic is
the layout as it is cleverly executed. I
wish I had more time to finish the
story as it was going to be epic.
8. Audience Appeal
My target audience are for both male and female that are the age of 16 and above. I was trying to attract a
social group who are into complicated a story lore similar to lord of the rings, game of thrones, marvel and dc
comics. The age range is very appropriate as my comic will have dark humor and sensitive language which
might brake the ASA codes. It will also include graphic scenes. I think my comic would appeal to dc and marvel
as they are one of the most popular comic company’s. many people would not be interested in my comic as it
is a fantasy genre and many people would rather have realistic genre. The art style is very cartoony which
would also be unappealing to many audiences.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– “I like the classic comic design”
– “I am very fascinated by the story and I am
interested to see where it is going”
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- “Add colour to the comic”
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– “I like the cover page as its very well coloured and
stylized”
– “ drawings a very well done and very professional”
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– “ I think the pacing very fast which can be a good
thing however it doesn't’t work with the story so
you should slow it down”
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– “I think your product has a nice smooth art style
which suits the story”
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– “I think some scenes do not look clear enough and
is hard to understand. I think you should draw
more detailed and understandable scenes”
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
- I agree that I should have paced my comic as it was rushed which means I had to
make spare time to make each page.
- I also agree some of my scenes do not make sense and hard to understand which
ill have to draw in more detail and add more scenes.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
- I disagree that I have to add colour as ink is very expensive. Ide also need a better
colouring software and a graphics tablet as its very difficult making something
looking pro with a mouth
14. Peer Feedback Summary
– I think in summary most of the feedback I got was to improve my story and
pace which I highly understand as I rushed most of it. My peers was most
impressed with my art style and skill. They think that my comic looks more
professional with my drawings. To improve my story I will have to take
inspiration form existing products and research into how comics are created. I
will have to sort my timings so that I can plan in time as well as finishing my
comic in a well timed manner.
– My peers think it might be a good idea to include colour as it will be more
immersive and realistic which would be a good idea however ink is expensive
and adding colour needs slot of skill. Photoshop will be hard to edit in colour
and may look unprofessional. To make it easier ill need a graphics tablet.
