1. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
Throughout the process of constructing this product I have
learnt how to effectively use a professional and high
quality camera (Nikon D3200) in order to provide the
photographs for my magazine. Whilst using this camera I
have learnt how to use proxemics and take mid-shots and
close ups. The lighting within the studio at school was
ideal for my photoshoot as it created a bright atmosphere
to provide the background of my photos. Also whilst doing
this I have learnt how to use Photoshop in order to edit
my photographs- allowing me to brighten the photos and
even change the colour of a shirt. Another thing I learned
to use was the tripod to the camera, this was a very
useful tool in terms of taking my photographs as it
allowed me to be able to focus the camera so that my
photographs would be clear. I have also learnt that
technology is highly relied on in order to be able to
create a magazine.
2. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
I also discovered how important it was to provide good lighting to
take the photographs for my magazine. I discovered during the
process of taking my photographs, as the first photographs I took
were very dark when I looked back on them. I soon realised that this
would definitely have an impact on my magazine and the way that it
is represented. For example if your magazine evolves around bright
colours and the images are dark they may look out of place and the
magazine wouldn’t flow. Where as if the magazine was based around
light colours and the images matched the rest of the magazine, the
magazine would appear more sophisticated and smart. Another thing I
discovered was the fact that you can get different formats of
lighting and this can change the way in which your photograph or
artist in this case is presented. I also learnt that whilst using
the lighting you can create different shadows by adjusting the
lights themselves- this can in fact add a sinister effect on your
photograph which is perfect if your music magazine is about
alternative rock etc.
3. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
Photoshop has helped me experiment how to position the layout on my
magazine as well as how to edit and position my photographs. I have
learnt that Photoshop is heavily relied upon during the process of
constructing a magazine- due to the way in which you can edit and
position the layout, photographs and text as well as manage the
sizes of text and images. Through using Photoshop I have learnt that
it gives you the opportunities to experiment and edit photographs in
ways which you would not have access to using other software.
I believe that if I hadn’t had the chance to use Photoshop my
magazine would have looked entirely different- this gives an idea of
how useful Photoshop actually is because of the amount of tools
(that I had no knowledge of before) it allows you access too.
Photoshop allowed me access to the colour replacement tool-which
helped me keep a running colour scheme throughout my magazine.
Photoshop also allowed me to use the spot treatment tool, to give my
photographs the desired ‘flawless’ skin effect that many magazines
use.
4. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
I used Blogger to document all of my work. This
has been useful as it has allowed me to view all
of my work at once and learn how to upload
documents, PowerPoints and Prezi's onto a
website (such as Blogger). Blogger has helped me
learn how to display my blog posts in a
sophisticated way- enabling my blog to look
sophisticated.
Microsoft Office has also helped me learn how to
display information in a formal and efficient
manor.
Through the process of constructing this product
I also used google throughout. Google allowed me
access to my research for my planning of my
alternative magazine enabling me to provide
detailed research into the background of other
alternative magazines such as Clash Magazine.
5. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
From using Prezi within the process of my
alternative magazine I have learnt how to
present information, display images related to
topics and create a fluent presentation on a
subject.
I have learnt that when creating a Prezi it is
important to only include important and relevant
facts and figures, and to keep the same font
throughout in order for the Prezi to look
sophisticated. Prezi in relation to learning
about technologies has really widened my view on
presenting as I will most definitely use this
again in the future. Prezi could also be used in
the future if my magazine were to sell, as it
could be used as an advertising technique at
meetings etc.
