1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
Question 6
2. Technology
During the production of my magazine I used a range of technologies to reach my final product,
throughout the entire process I have learnt how to use them in order to improve my magazine whilst
learning about them. I used the following technologies:
- Canon 600D
- Lighting
- Adobe PhotoshopCC 2015
- Mozilla Firefox (Google, blogger etc.)
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Mobile Phone
3. Canon 600D
I used this Canon SLR camera to take the images for my magazine of which is a crucial part of my final
product since my magazine was very image heavy in order to suit my user group. In order to improve
the quality of the photos taken the SLR camera meant I could instantly see photos after they had been
taken. This helped me as it showed my if I needed to adapt anything such as lighting in order to make
my image’s better. The memory of the camera was also large enabling me to take multiple photos and
then decide on which to use at a later date. This allowed me to confer with my focus group and to see
what photos they’d prefer to see.
I learnt many features about the camera throughout the production such as ISO, aperture and iris and
how these affected the images and which would give me the best outcome.
4. Lighting
I used lighting in order to get better lit photographs as artificial light would be the
best for the majority of my shots.
The lighting was simple however it required a lot of moving around and
information from the internet to get the lights in the correct position to achieve
the look I was aiming to get.
I decided to use high key lighting and so used the layout to the right for my
studio photographs in the magazine. Using this lighting gave the images more
of a professional look to my images and it makes it look more of a real
magazine due to it being a common convention for images in the country
genre (for studio photos)
5. Adobe Photoshop CC 2015
I used Adobe Photoshop as the main program top produce my magazine and to
manipulate the images. By using Photoshop and their tutorials I learnt how to adjust
the brightness and contrast of the images as well as applying filters to change
certain aspects. I posted the tutorials used on my blog so that I could go back to
them if I needed to.The Photoshop software also allowed me to add text as well as
create the foundation of my production.
6. Mozilla Firefox
I primarily used Mozilla Firefox to conduct my research into codes and Conventions before
the production of my magazine in order to help me during the production process.
I also used it in order to research tutorials during the magazine production to aid me with
the construction learning features on Photoshop as well as optimal lighting, ISO, aperture
etc. for my images.
Plus, I used Mozilla to constantly update my progress on Blogger, which turned out to be
very useful in recording my research, and the layout meant that I could refer to it with ease.
I would have been much more difficult if I had to record it in another form.
7. Mobile Phone
I used my iPhone 5 to use the internet to aid with ,y research during the research stage. The
phone had multiple uses such as contacting my focus group and sending them saved
images to get their opinions on certain photos and styles. In some circumstances the Phone
was more convenient to use than a camera shown on my contents page. The uses of
convergence in this piece of technology meant that I could email, take photographs and
other communications in one device meant that the production process was quicker and
easier.
8. Microsoft PowerPoint
I used Microsoft PowerPoint during my research to co-ordinate the common codes and conventions
of music magazines, I put it in a PowerPoint as it was a clear and organised way of presenting my
research in a concise format which means that it was easy to refer to at a later date.
