2. Psychogeography
Psychogeography is the analysis of how a place looks and not just your first thoughts or instincts, and it is an emotional
reaction to an environment. You should look into the layout of the area, such as where signs are places, etc, and not just
the environment but everything there, like people, shops, etc. It can make you remember places by not just by sight but
also by your other senses, for instance in York I remember where the shop Lush is because it has a very strong smell. We
should also look at the impact of things, such as with a skateboard look at all the scars that it caused people.
One way to do psychogeography is to just walk around and focus on just your environment, so you can leave your phone
off or not take a map, and go by instinct. However we should record what we see and remember, by writing it down,
photographing, or drawing what we see.
This would be useful for me because it can show UX, and how it can be used to make an experience, such as in Disney
land, they use a certain smell or layout so that people will remember the experience. Also it can show me how stores are
laid out, for instance Urban Outfitters has a rough and edgy style and layout in the shops. I could use psychogeography
for my app brief, as I would be going around Manchester, and I could look for coffee shops that intrigue me that I
wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
