The group's initial idea was to focus on promoting social issues like sexism and racism in a future utopian city, showing differences between past and present.
Their final idea was to create a promotional video and posters. The video would parody an infomercial, showing discrimination faced by characters in the past that does not exist in their futopian city, which promotes equality.
The group discussed roles. Nikki would write the script and casebook. Pawel would draw characters and a cityscape. Others would storyboard, film, edit, and make posters. Some roles changed during production.
The group discussed naming the city, settling on "Futopia" to represent the future utopian vision.
2. Initial idea
Our initial idea is to focus on the people in the city, rather than the city itself. We thought
about what we would want in a future city, and came to the idea that there would be no
sexism or racism. We also had the idea of showing the differences between the past and
present, and show the passing of time.
Our final idea was to create a promotional video and posters to show the past, present and
future. The video would focus on the social issues that people face, such as sexism and
racism.
We went into more details about how the video is going to be set up and what it’s going to
contain. So the video is going to be a parody of a cheesy infomercial for our utopian city. We
wanted to show a bigger difference, so we decided to skip the present time and just focus
on the past and future. There is going to be an actor that is talking about some people in the
past that were discriminated against due to their race or gender, so a black working man,
and a stay at home wife. While the actor is talking about these two people, images of the
characters is going to be shown to the side of him. Then the actor is going to switch to the
topic of the utopian city, where these people can do whatever they want and are equal, this
should show a big difference from the part where he says how the characters from before
are living. To highlight the differences there are going to be images of the same characters
but looking more futuristic, this will help to show the differences. Then an image of the
utopian city will be shown in the center of the screen. We were also going to have two
posters that feature the city, this is because we want them to advertise the city, as the video
focuses on the people and social issues more than the city.
3. Team roles

4. The name
We looked at lots of different types of names that we could
have for the city. We started by looking into words
translated into different languages, we looked at the words
for free world:
Korean- Jayu Segye
Danish- Fri Verden
German- Freie Welt
French- Mondre Libre
Then we looked at the world Liberty:
French- Liberte
German- Freiheit
Danish- Frihed
Korean- Jayu
I came up with the word Futopia, as it was a mixture
of Future and Utopia, which sums up our city. We
ended up using this as the name for our city.
6. Video inspirations- Apple conference
I looked into apple conference videos, these are similar
to the style to how we have planned the video to look. It
would be good to parody this style of video and have the
actor dressed as Steve Jobs and have them talk about
the city in the same way that he talked about apple
products.

7. Video inspiration- News broadcasts (American)
I looked into news broadcasts from America, because
they can show the cheesiness that we want in the video.
Also it shows some interesting ways that we could lay
out the video and shoot it.
