2. Finding my Client
When first finding my client I did come across a issue. As I had chosen around 3 clients that I was going to choose from which was Carlton Towers, Fired up and Wetheralls overall I then decided
upon using the client Carlton Towers as I knew I would be able to create some good work for this client. As I had decided on taking photographs of the building and ground which is something I
feel myself is strong on. Which I then ended up contacting them through email which lead to a phone call so that I could fully explain to them what it is I planned to do and why it is I am needing
to find a client and do some free work for my course. Which they where fine with and I had found my client I had even emailed them to set up a day that I could come to take my photographs
and start the production of my work. But when the day arrived and I turned up to the building I was turned down as they had double booked me with a music video so I had to leave. But I then
found out that on Carlton Towers land was a little brewery that my parents where friends with. So I was able to find another client straight away as I thought it would be best to change client as I
needed to get work done and I didn't want to have to wait around for my client. This meant that I did have to catch up with work and was a little bit behind to everyone else but it was something
I knew I needed to do. So I was able to get on with my work and hopefully not come to any more problems with my work. But since I was already their the client allowed me to take photographs
that day in case I needed them. I then went on to send them an email with the brief and they replied with a lengthy email explaining what they would like me to do and also any details that I may
need to help when it comes to making what they had asked me too. As with this new client they had wanted me to make a poster for a new opening they had going on. Which compared to my
original idea was a lot more challenging and not something I am really used too.
Here are all the emails that I had sent to my original client which we had a phone call as well so that I was able to explain to them
more about what it is I had planned to do. But as you can see we had emailed up until the point we arranged to meet. Which when I
arrived to the building I could see that it was busy with a lot of people rushing around. So while in the parking lot I decided that I
would call my client so that I was able to figure out what was happening to which I was told that I had been double booked and they
were filming a music video. They then suggested that I could re book to which I didn't think would be an option on my side as this was
something that I needed to get done as soon as. But with work and college I didn't have much free time to be able to rebook and still
manage to do all my production. So due to this I decided to change my client that day which I knew would mean I would have to
catch up and have a little bit more work to do in a shorter time but I thought it was the best thing to do. As my mum knew someone
that I was able to do work for which thankfully for me their business is also located on the area that my first client was. So straight
away I was able to get some photographs that day for in case I needed them for what work I was going to plan to do for them. Which
helped as it meant I wasnât too far behind as I knew this way I was bale to start production as soon as all that was left to do and
meant I was a little behind was to do all the written work and research about my new client.
Here is the main phone call that I had with my client as
well when talking about what it is that I needed to do.
What it was that I was offering them. To which after this
phone call I had sent them my brief that they could fill
out so that I was able to get started with the work I
would do for them. But even this took 3 emails till they
responded which when they did fill it out there wasnât
much that I was able to work with. As they replied with
one word answers and didn't give me any idea of what
they would like to see or ay detail of any kind.
3. Finding my Client
With my new client that I had found I didn't get a chance to email them first to see if they were interested instead I had gone round to their business and asked them in person as I wanted to
make sure that I was able to find a new one straight away and not waste anymore time that I didn'tâhave. As this was my biggest issue at this point as I didn't have the time to try and find a new
client and go through emailing them again. Which thankfully when I turned up to this client they were looking for someone to do some work for them as they were opening up a building to
expand their business more. So thankfully I was very lucky in this aspect as this was something I was then able to take on. Which seeing them in person it was a lot easier to explain everything
and also get an idea of what it was they wanted. But also that day I was able to go around the brewery and take photographs for incase I did need them. After this I was then able to start and
email them and I got a better and more detailed brief so that I knew what it was they wanted from me. But they also helped me a lot with sending other things that I may wasnât to include and
use. Whether this was labels, logos and even writing that about them.
Here are all the emails that me and my client ended up sending which you can
see she gave me a lot more help and guidance to what it was they were looking
for. Which really helped as this was a new thing for me as I wouldn't poster was a
strong point of mine so being able to get all the help I could from them helped
massively. But the first email they sent me was a massive help as it gave me a lot
of access to the things they have that some things I was able to use more then
others. But they also gave me things like writing messages I may have been able
to add that explained more about their business and who they are. Which for
some poster designs I was able to use. The second kind of email I had sent them
was the first poster that I ended up making as this way by sending it to them I was
able to see which direction I should take my others and see what it was they liked
or didn't as their opinion was very important to me. To which their email really
helped me go in the right direction and to fix the things they weren't too keen of
but also keep the things they did like about the poster. After this the other kind of
email I had sent them was about the newest poster I had made which to this one
they didn't seem to have any complaints. This client was very easy to contact and
get information from to really help me and them to achieve the look they were
wanting. As this poster is something they are hoping to use.
4. Brief When I received the brief back I could see that it was full of detail. They gave me a lot of detail who
they were which I think helps especially with the fact they are a small family run business as I think it
makes their business a lot more personal and they are able to build a better relationship with their
audience. As they are able to show humor easily on their social medias and get people laughing. But
seeing them work together can really make you trust the company a lot easier. They also explain all
that they are offering when opening their Beer CafĂŠ which straight away this is something that could
come in handy when in production as already their telling me things that I may be able to add. Which
I think is really helpful and its really helps me get an idea of the business and the things they like.
Then when telling me what they would like me to do they are clear on what it is they would like. The
fact that they are wanting something to help with the opening of their new venue. They also tell me
what it is they would like which is a poster to be printed out, then a flyer and also for these things to
be at sizes where they would be bale to post them on to social media as well. Which is fine as all this
means is that first I can make a poster design and then change it so that its able to be shared on to
social media as well. Which is fine and doesn't mean its too much work. I think even the flyer I will be
able to use my poster deigns and then on the back add more detail to what it is that they are hoping
to do and all that they hope to bring with the new venue. They then managed to give me even more
detail when asked about what they would specifically like to see. Which is where they told me what
fonts they would like to see which from these there was one that I wasnât able to find. They then told
me what size they would like the poster which was very helpful and stated that they would like for
their logo to be included which I knew already would be as with the logo for their venue it already
includes their logo on it twice and I didn't think adding the logo in a third time somewhere else would
work as I think as that stage it would look a little bit too much. They also told me what times the
venue would be open which I think is something that I did want to include into my poster but after a
while it was something that I didn't think fitted in with the design so this something that I may be
able to add into more of the flyer with all the other information. They also explained to me a little bit
more of what it is they are wanting the venue to be to really get the atmosphere of what they believe
the venue would be like. But all this really helped me in figuring out what it is they would like to see
but it also gave me a little freedom to design the poster to how I wanted I just had to made sure I
added what they liked and also email them new designs so they can still change what they would like
to.
5. Work Here is my finished pieces of work to a extent as I had sent my client all 4 posters and she had some
things that she wanted to change for example they have pushed the opening of the venue to a later
date of summer. So this is something that I will need to change on my posters but other then that
there isn't anything I really need to change apart from the opening day. But apart from this all I need
to do is get more feedback from my client of what it is they like so much about my posters.
From the email so far my client expressed that their favorite poster is the first one that I have shown.
Apart from the fact that she had wanted me to change the colour of the font as to begin with I had
used the brown colour from their logo. Which I think I do agree since changing it to white it does work
a lot better as it seems to stand out more against the dark background that I have used for this poster.
I then also think that the poster looks better when getting rid of the label on the beer as I think the
label just doesn't really work for the colour that it is.
I've then included what the Instagram poster would look like. Which does look a little bit squished but
when putting it on to Instagram this isn't something that you are able to tell and it does look like a
normal picture on the social media. But I am yet to hear feedback from my client on what it is they
think of this one as it is very much the same as my final posters but I have had to change the design a
little. So that it was able to fit everything on since the canvas
for Instagram is a lot smaller then my poster I have made.
But i did want to make sure that I still added the beer
bottle as I feel like this is a signature look I have created
for my designs so I think if I had it on my posters but not
on my social media I donât think they would go also I
would have a big empty space. Which with my social
media poster I already seemed to have this empty space
which is why I added the âPerfect place toâŚâ As i think this
is something that will draw people in.
6. Time management
When I first started this project I think my time management was fine and I was doing a lot of work and getting on with it all. But then when I had to change my client
a week into this project it did set me back a little as it meant all the work I had done no longer mattered and I had to do it all again for my new client. Which has taken
its time as I wanted to get it done but also be as good as when I did it for the other client. But this meant straight away I was a week behind with my written work. But
I feel like when it came to production I have been more on time as when I got my new client I made sure to take photographs straight away so that this wasnât
something I needed to worry about and it meant that I was bale to get a little bit more on track with my work and that I didn't need to worry as much. As since my
client was also quick to email and do my brief I was able to get on with production as soon as possible so I wasnât behind anymore then I already was. When it came to
actually doing my production I do think I was on track but at the same time it as taken me a little longer then I would have liked it too. My method of production was I
was going to make a range of different posters and send them to my client so that I was able to get constant feed back of what they liked and what it is they would like
me to change. As this way I was able to progress with my designs and finally at the end come up with one that both me and client like. Which did take time as before
my final design I did end up making around 10 posters. Which I then came across my final design by the end of the 2 weeks of production so I decided that I would
make a few more but in different colours so that I was still making sure to give my client a choice of what it is they would like out of the 5 final designs I did end up
making. This then left me a week to finish my evaluation as during the time of making my posters I was able to do my pre production writing and finish that up around
the same time as my production. But I still had written work from the first few weeks of this project to do so I was glad I was able to get my pre production out of the
way. While I was starting my evaluation I went a head and read my brief again which I never realized but I had missed some production off. Which was that my client
wanted to make sure that they were able to put my posters on to their social media as well. Which meant that I was now a little behind with my evaluation as well.
But not by much as it took me around two lessons to put my poster into the sizes to fit social media. Which also meant that I did need to change my posters around a
little so that they fit the new canvas sizes but also so that they still looked ok. After this I then went back to my evaluation I then still had my original power point to
do which was all research and planning and then I had the brief power point to complete which wasnât too much. But I still was a weekend behind. So it was mainly
written work that I was behind on by a week. So my time management was a little off and I was behind overall by a week. So even my evaluation took me a week
passed the original deadline to finish due to what happened with my original client as it had put me back a little.
7. Legal Copyright
With all the work that I have produced with all the many posters that I have created I've either used my work or I have used the little things that they have sent me.
Which is also things that they have made themselves as well. So none of this is copy right the only thing that may be is the font that they had asked me to use as the
font Bebas Neue which is free to download and you have the choice to even donate to the maker of the font. So it is technically not copy right which would make all of
the work I have made copy right free. Here I've tried to show where it is that everything has come from. So when looking at the poster I
first started to make I've tried to show where I have got everything from. So looking at the posters
Iâve shown that I got the emoji banner from their website which is something they said would be ok
to do if it helped. Next Iâve shown where it downloaded the font from on Dafont.com. Then next I
showed that that they had given me the logo for the business so this something they have made
themselves with their logo. Then lastly I even showed where I had gotten the social media logos
which I had gotten from one of the beer labels that they had sent me as this way it was easier to use
all their important information as well which I got from this as well.
I next wanted to show how it was that I did the beer bottle that I have on my final posters as well as
I wanted to show that this wasnât copy right either. As I first found one of the photographs that I had
taken myself of one of the beer bottles. But what I decided I was then going to do was rotoscope it.
As this way I was able to make sure I got the shape of the bottle then
after that to get some depth into it and make sure it wasnât just this
one solid colour I decided to use a gradient overlay on top of it so
that I could create some kind of shadows into the bottle to make it
look a tiny bit more realistic. So it goes from dark to light back to
dark.
8. Client Feedback For my client I tired to get feedback through out the production so that I was bale to make sure I was doing a good job and that at the end they would like the
posters I made. So the first poster that I made and sent to them was this one as this was really my first idea that I came up with that I could do . Looking at it now I
can see improvements I could do straight away but I do think it was still a good starting point as I did have a clear idea. So I then sent them it across through email
to see what they thought.
To which they did have some feedback to say about it which I was glad for as I was able to then take what they said and apply it to the next idea that I came up
with. They did like it for the first poster I made but they had a different idea and wanted it keep it more monochrome which I was fine with as I thought they
would have liked the colour better to go with their logo but I was glad that they told me what they did prefer. They also weren't too fond of the emoji banner
which looking at now it wasnât the best idea but like I said this was just a starting point to get a feel off them of what it is they did want. But I was able to take
what they said into my next idea and move forward from this one.
I then showed them the next poster that I had made which ended up being close to my final to see what they thought and if they did have anything else they
would like me to add. Which with this one the only feedback I had gotten back was that they loved it. Which I was glad for as out of all the designs I had made
this was my favorite so I was glad that it was able to be the final idea.
I then showed them this final poster but in a different colour schemes so that I was able to see what they thought and if there was any that they liked more.
Which there was one poster they did like but they wanted me to just change the colour of the text which was something that I was happy to do. They also
wanted to see the posters without the beer label as this was something that I myself didn't think was working too much as I felt like it looked out of place and
clashed with the poster. So I ended up getting rid of the label and changing and making some other little tweaks as they ended up changing the venue opening
date as well. So I then sent them all the posters again to see what they thought.
Which they ended up loving the final designs that I made for them. They even told
me which one it was that they liked the most as well. So I was glad that I was able
to make a poster they liked in the end and hopefully will be able to use. So I think
from the feedback I had gotten through out I think I really did this task justice and
was able to deliver what I had promised. But you are able to see that from my
ideas and a little bit of guidance from my client how drastically my poster changed
from my starting idea to the very last finishing idea that I had.
9. Overall Look
Overall here is the final look of all the posters that I have made for my client and including the Instagram post as well. This
way you are able to see how they are all very similar and only a few things are different which I mainly just the colour
schemes that I have used. Unless you look at the second one where you are able to tell that I have changed where things
have been placed and you are able to tell easily that it is different from the others.
How I made these was pretty easy all that was really a challenge when making these posters was figuring out where to
place everything on to the page. As I like the colour schemes that I have used I think they all do go really well. But Iâve
made sure to keep them all similar with the colours that I have chosen as this way my client is able to either choose one
they want to use or they are able to use them all since they all go together.
But all depends on what my client would like to use but I thought it was better to give them an option as then I know for
sure that I will be appealing to them with at least one of these. One thing that I may do as well is make some more of the
Instagram posts as well so that they have an option for them too but I will just do the same as I did with the posters where
I make them with different colour schemes but keep the overall designs very much the same.
