2. Music Video
To create our music video we thoroughly looked at our editing techniques, mise en scene used,
camera angels and most importantly sounds. We began researching and looking at other videos
on Youtube for some inspiration and ideas, we looked at music videos by Grimes, Little Mix, the
original video of Icona Pop’s I love it and videos from previous years made by students.
Below there are some screenshots from our music video against those of our inspirational videos,
as you can see we have produced a similar shot in order to create our own music video. We took
into account our editing techniques and camera angels so that we could invent a new and
uniquely produced music video. Similar to these ones which are all individual.
Through out our music video, shots including close ups and jump cuts show the girls featured
looking at the camera; engaging with the audience which is what gives the video itself a more fun
vibe, it allows the audience to interact with the video. The song used is also upbeat and fast pace,
this instantly making the audience feel enlightened and upbeat themselves.
3. Production Logo
To construct our logo we thought of ideas of a name and what conventional things we could relate to in order to create a
piece that is catchy and unique. Our initial idea was to create a production logo named “Fresh Records” it sound fairly
young and hip, as we started to create the logo drafts and doing research we discovered that this was already a music
production company, due to copyright reasons we decided to alter our idea and we came up with “Feline Records” which
fitted into our ideas of our music videos as feline represents a female, as we intend to incorporate a positive female
empowered music video. We began the process of the production company by using the software photoshop, this
allowing us to use and build on our basic knowledge and come up with a inventive production logo. As the background we
used the Venus symbol which equates to the identifying as a female, we used google and searched for a basic image
which we could colour and manipulate to use as the background, using repeat pattern and pastel colours to create the
background to our logo, then placing “Feline Records” in front of the background in a bold pink colour to make it stand out
and look dominant.
In addition to this, we then are able to create our own brand identity by using our production logo upon our products such
as our digipack, on our blogs and our final advertisement. This links our pieces of work together as it shows that they all
belong together in one final product, including our music video.
4. Advert
To produce our Final Advert, we used photoshop. We took a
particular image from the photoshoot that we took of the girls
featured within our music video. In order to start creating our advert
we added the photo as the background layer, then adding layers
ontop to produce the overall outcome, these including the titles,
production logo, pictures of the album cover within the digipak, bar
code, and links towards the website and twitter page.
We didn't want to overload or make the advert too packed with lots
of things going on, we wanted a more simple approach however we
still wanted to have a unique edge. To gather ideas as to how we
would create the advert and what we present the advert we looked at
the colours of our production logo, the colouring within our music
video and at our digipak, we didn’t want to be too vibrant and
multicoloured we wanted the colours to be more toned down whilst
still being bold and lively. So in conclusion, we thought we’d used a
pastel pallet with hints of animated tones, like bright purples and
pinks. This reflects our overall idea of the girls being the ones in
power/control, not sticking with the pop convention of the male gaze
as it sexually objectifying to women. The girls featured within in our
product, have fun and bubbly personalities we wanted this to be
brought out within our advert shown. They are both staring straight
towards the camera which re-enforces female dominance and not
being objectified. The colours represent both girls, this working well
as it provides each product with a running similar theme, this
enabling us as producers and creators to come up different ideas for
each section without moving too far away from our overall theme.
5. Digipack
To construct our digipack we started with a sketch to construct initial
ideas of how we wanted the digipack to look and how we could
incorporate our brand identity. We produced our the start of our
digipack on photoshop, however as we followed through the
process our ideas changed and developed towards a better
produced outcome. We looked at tutorials on how we could editing
photos so that we could manipulate them appropriately, we decided
to take a range of pictures from the photoshoot we did so we could
find the ones that worked the best within the digipack, we didn’t
want a photo too posed or over edited. We thought we would go
with some basic but with an edge. Each photo placed upon the
digipack has been edited and changed to fit the same theme within
our products, using light pastels colours and more bold pinks and
purples. To produce the cd image, I took an image of hologram
tones from google, added this to photoshop added effects changing
brightness and contrasts until I reached the certain outcome I
wanted.
We looked at other digipacks on ideas of how we could create a
digipack similar to our advert and music video so that they all fit
within the same identification. We thought if we use the same colour
scheme and fonts then this will work well. We used screen caps
from the music video itself to include within our digipack (Back
Cover). Moreover, we included our production logo which was
important in order to identify the production team and who owns the
rights to the music video, this is often done within the music
industry. Overall, our digipack fits in exactly the way we intended it
too, incorporating the girls featured within the music video, the
product not being over edited or too busy on the page.
