2. Research
This time research was different and we different have to research recent products as it was a
client project for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. I got given a word document with different
audience profiles on it. I picked one out which was 25+ and the researched the age, gender,
socioeconomic status, geodemographic and psychographics. I used the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
website to see what they are all about. I also looked at their work they have done. I feel like
researching this way was a good strength as I got straight into researching about my client
and it gives you a chance to see what they are like so I could use this was bonus.
After this, I thought about ideas what I could so it would appeal to my audience. One weakness
was I couldn't use the YouGov website to search because it didn’t work but it wasn’t a major
setback. To improve on my research, I think I needed to just do more work on it and just to get
more of an understanding. To do this, I needed to look at different aspects such as search for
more psychographic.
3. Planning
I started off by creating three mind maps of each idea I had come up with. I talked about what
the idea was and what would be as well. After, I gave an explanation on why I was taking my
idea forward. One of the strengths of planning was thinking deeply about why I was going to
take this idea on. Another strength was when I started creating the mood boards and thinking
about which fonts and colour schemes to use. This was because it brings your project together
more. One weakness so far was thinking about the fonts as this took me a bit longer. I wasn’t
too sure on what kind of font I wanted but I needed to be professional as one of my products
was a newspaper cover. I went on to talk about my final idea and if my audience was going to
engage with it.
I created a schedule with all the little tasks that need to be done each week and a slide about
my deadlines which so far I have kept with.
I think this planning helped my product as I kept looking back to see what fonts or what colour
schemes I had chosen. I could have explained and expanded myself a bit more when I’m talking
about my idea. The effect this would have had on my product would be really thinking further
into my products and thinking more about the audience.
4. Time Management
I believe I have used my time wisely, I made sure I had
done all my power points done before I started
production. However, there were some parts I was missing
in my power points so after I had finished my production, I
went back and made sure that everything was filled out.
Just before my production I came up with a schedule just
so I could look back on it if I needed to. In the four weeks
I’ve had to do my production work, I’ve talked about the
particular tasks I’ve got to do. This time round, I didn’t
really use it as much as other projects. I don’t feel like it
made much of a difference this time. Another part of time
management I added into my ideas and planning was the
deadlines. For the deadlines, I’ve talked about what we’re
doing each week.
If I had additional time, I don’t think I would use it wisely
as I would mostly think I’ve got longer and not do the
work.
6. I have picked an animal guide to compare to my work. The first difference you can see is the background
colour. The background on my work is beige where as the lizard guide has stuck to a white background. On my
background, it has a shadow of grass which doesn't take it away from the different birds and the white
background makes the images of the lizards stand out more. Another different is there is no mast head to the
guide. The mast head I have chosen is for my audience to be able to see clearly what it is. I have also added the
logo of The Wildlife Trust in the corner to show the support.
One thing I like about the lizards guide is how they have aligned the text to the shape of the lizard. The main
difference is the amount of text on each guide. The lizard one has loads of information about the background,
their habitat.
I think the guide looks appealing and is very informative. It helps for little children for when
they are at the any wildlife trusts and it is good for adults too who are interested in this kind of
thing.

8. Poster
The poster has a squirrel on it which links in with nature. When comparing it to the other
poster, mine is very plain and simple whereas the other poster has a lot of information on it
and is more informative. I have created a simple poster as all it was for is getting the audience
to look at the website and get them to go to their local wildlife trust and help out nature and
the bogs.
I have not used many tools for this poster, just the shapes tool and the text tool. Some
improvements I could have done was add more information so people would actually look at it.
Another thing is maybe use a different image as this one of the squirrel doesn’t have much
space to surround with information.
9. Audience Appeal
I am going to the second idea forward which is the newspaper, poster and guide. I have picked
this idea as it goes well with my audience and their profile.
I believe a newspaper would be in my audience’s everyday life style or maybe at work. As they
both take their careers very seriously, it is going to be hard to peel them away from work.
As my audience are not sure what to do in their free time except from go for long walks, his
could be a good chance for them to be able to see a nature reserve close to them. This way they
can see what is happening and might be able to help out or see what they can do.
10. Week 1
This was the first which means its research. I started looking at which
profile I was going to choose and relate my work too and what I could do
for it. I chose Samira and Adem because they didn’t know who YWT are
but would recognise a logo. i chose these guys as I wanted them to know
who YWT are and get them to go any local YWT and see what they think
as they like going on walks.
I think this powerpoint went alright, I could have added a few more
research things that would have probably helped.
11. Week 2
I started exploring ideas and developing them further to see what I could
come up with. I read the brief a few times and I decided that im going to
create a poster, magazine, double page spread and newletters cover.
I made mood boards with images of cute animals and news papers and
then started looking at different fonts and what would be suitable for a
newspaper and for Samira and Adems age range.
Next was colours and assessment of final ideas. I thought as it was a
nature project to use natural colours such as green and beige.
A schedule and deadlines were also added so then I knew when to hand
all my work in.
12. Week 3
I carried on with my planning making sure it was finished on time for
production on Monday. I decided to start messaging people on Flickr
asking if I could use their images for my work.
I got some responses back saying yes and some people didn’t want me to
so I left them. I was going to use these photos for the bird guide.
13. Week 4
First week of production, I started by making the poster as it was the
easiest one to make. I found an image of a squirrel from Flickr and added
some text to it. I feel like I could have done a lot more to this piece of
work.
14. Week 5
In this week I started making the front cover for the mini magazine. I used
one of the images that was accepted from Flickr. I wanted to keep it
simple as I was going to go all out on the guide. But I also did a back
cover too which has a map of places where there were local YWT areas. I
also added the names of the places that are more local.
15. Week 6
Last thing was the actual guide. I found four images of birds from Flickr
and edited them so took the backgrounds off but with some I left the
branch they were on because it looked cool. The background look plain so
I added in big grass by finding it in the brush tool section. I had to think
about the alignment more because the text was smaller.
16. Week 7
Last week of production and start of evaluation. The last thing I had to
create was the newspaper article. This was the hardest bit as I haven’t
made a newspaper cover before. I tried my hardest but in the end I don’t
really think it looked like what I wanted it to. However it was too late to
change it so I had to leave it.
