2. Week 1- Research
This week I conducted research on a profile for my client which is the
Yorkshire wildlife trust. To start with I looked at the brief that I was given and
linked my research to this. I did this by doing the geographic of the hull
area. This is because I was sent a profile of the audience from the company
on who they are wanting me to target.
From the profile it suggested that ‘Karen’ enjoyed change and likes having
an impact on important matters. For example: she has strong opinions on
the NHS and Brexit. This helps link with the brief that the client sent me, due
to them wanting to encourage people to contact their local MPS. Through
out the research i also conducted finding facts which would be useful for
putting on my infographics that i am wanting to create. This is because i feel
like infographics are easy to put on social media, as well as it sends clear
message which will help encourage individuals to take action.
I also researched into the Geographics of ‘Karen’ it shows she is from a
unprivileged area which shows she wants to make change. Also, from
researching into the house holds, the area consists of families or single
parents. This shows they want to get there children involved in different
activities. This is because every parents wants the best for their children
and this can happen by getting them involved with the local community.
3. Week 2/3 Planning
In week 2 and 3 of this project, i began to plan and conduct experiments
which would be useful when it came to production. To start with i
planned three ideas onto mind maps, which lead me to finalise my idea.
I decided to go with making infographics on local MPs as well as
animals. I feel like this will engage with my audience more due to them
wanting to make a difference. It also allows me to create a fun fanzine
which children can get involved in. This will both inspire adults and
children. I have also looked into colour choice and font choice. This is
because i wanted to make the font choice bold but playful. This is
because i am wanting to create a infographic that inspires but that is
also informative. The colour choice i went with was neutral nature
colours. This is because it allows the designs to be basic but effective. It
also links into the nature theme that the yorkshire wildlife trust is all
about. I then began to experiment with different styles for the animals i
was creating. The first design (The sloth) it a more mature style which
looks hand drawn. However, it complicated in the sense of the features it
includes. The second style i designed of the penguin was more childish
and simple. From doing these designs i have needed to find a style in-
between which triggered my inspiration for geometrics styles.
4. Week 4 Production
In week 4 i started my first week into production. To start with i
constructed the graphics of the people. I did this by finding an image
on google of a MP and used the outline to help create the basic
shapes. This worked effectively because you can clearly see what the
graphics is trying to demonstrate. What i found difficult about this was
what colours to use. This is because i needed to make sure the neck
and face were different colours so that they didn’t look like they
connected in the same shape. This worked effectively but i feel like i
could of planned better for this part. I then gathered my information
for the infographic. I found this hard because i had so many important
facts to include. I then selected different fonts so that they would
stand out differently. I made the MP statement more bold due to that
being the whole concept of the infographic. I then created little
graphics which link into the writing included. I tried to stay with global
warming issues cause i feel like this is a major issue which a lot of
people relate to.
To add to the bubbles of font, i included a blue background and made
it gradient. This is because it helps give the effect about the planet
and how contacting your MP about the act can help change the world
for the better.
5. Week 5 Production
In the fifth week i carried on with my production work. I decided to create
animals using shapes rather than creating a style like i worked with in the
experiments. This is because it appeals to my audience more. This is
because the animals look innocent enough for children to connect to them
and complex enough for it to appeal to adults.
The shapes used are there to create different level of depths which allows
the designs to be detailed and skilled. I did come across a few obstacles
whilst creating these animals. What i struggled with was where to start. This
is because it is new for me to try and create depth with shapes. Even
though i struggled to achieve this, i believe the outcome has been positive. I
feel like i could of spent more time experimenting with this style because it
would of made my time more effective.
My next struggle this week was finding the right facts for these animals.
Unfortunately, i didn’t do enough planning before hand which led for me to
abandon the fox animal. However, i found worth for this, by including it in my
infographic about local MP’s.
6. Week 6 Production
With in the 6th week of production i concentrated on correcting the
fonts so that they reflect my target audience and my message
clearly.
I found it hard to find fonts that went with my messages, this is
because i am wanting to appeal to single mums who want to make
a difference. However, i want to appeal to children. This means i
had to have soft but powerful fonts incorporated with each other.
This is so it shows a clear message but does it in a soft but
powerful way.
This week i have also began research on what to include on the
infographics. I began by researching the Yorkshire wildlife trusts
website and gathered information from there. This is so when
people read this information on website it will clearly link into the
infographic being related. I also gathered sources outside of the
Yorkshire wildlife group. This was more facts on facts and figures.
Overall, i have stuck to schedule which has allowed me to finish my
infographics on time. This has allowed me to make changes and
correct the other infographics more effective.
