Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
FILM SCRIPT: Bohemian Rhapsody
Type of script: (Choose from: UK, European, World Cinema)
Language The language in the script shows detailed descriptions of Freddie’s
mansion, well-spoken/written.
The writers want to entertain and educate the audience about how tragic it
was when Freddie died and to educate that even though he was famous,
rich and loved by many fans, he was mistreated, ill and lonely for a great
deal of his life as well as entertaining them with one of the most well-
known bands that have ever walked the Earth. The genre of the movie is:
music, musical and drama and we see that a great deal throughout the
movie script however the intended audience reflects the genre. The target
audience are people who grew up listening to the band Queen in the 70s –
90s so ages vary from 30 – 50. The script of Bohemian Rhapsody is
supposed to make that target audience feel nostalgic, while also educating
all the audience about the Band’s and the Singer’s time as before Queen,
during Queen and even slightly after Queen.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
You can easily tell that the Bohemian Rhapsody script is designed for a
Movie and there is quite a lot in the script that can tell you this. For
example, every time someone has dialogue in the script their name and
what the character says is written in the middle of the page. Another
example is that each character’s name is fully written in capital letters so
that its easier for everyone working on the movie knows who is supposed
to talk and when. This is like a TV series script and a video game script
where the character’s name is in capital letters
Three-act script It’s very hard to tell whether this script is a three-act script or not. There
isn’t anywhere on the script that says “ACT:” however on a broader scale
of the entire script and story is could class as a three-act script because
there is a beginning middle and end but the beginning/ act 1 is normally a
buildup of what’s happening however the script starts at the lowest point.
In the middle normally it’s the climax but there’s not much of one it just tells
us that at that point Freddie’s life was getting worse. At the end normally is
a solution/ resolution to fix what had happened in the climax but there isn’t
much of one here it just is about the aftermath with the media (back to
some of the stuff that happens in the beginning of the script. So overall I
believe that this script isn’t a three-act script.
Angle of article I believe that the scripts focus on how Freddie’s life was and what the
media was first saying about him was 100% wrong and that his life was
quite hard even though Freddie was rich and famous. It also makes
audience that grew up listening to Queen nostalgic.
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
nonlinear
I believe that overall, the scrip is single- stranded. Because the script is
about Freddie’s life, and it has other people in it/involves them (like the
other band members) however it doesn’t go into depth about only Freddie
Mercury. I believe that the Movie script is nonlinear the plot is not in
chronological order because the script starts once Freddie dies rather than
at the start of his career.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
Type
i.e.
fiction
nonfiction
The script for Bohemian Rhapsody is fictional however is based on the
non-fiction that has happened because the script and movie are based off
of the real life of Freddie Mercury’s life before and during Queen. For
example, it shows event that have happened to the singer. For example,
performing at Band Aid, being diagnosed with AIDS and coming out as gay
during the 1980s where more people started to come out as gay, but most
of the society would treat Homosexuals differently and comparing them as
to someone who has a disease (since in that time a lot of the patients
diagnosed with AIDS were gay.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
TV SCRIPT: Eastenders
Type of script: (Choose from: news broadcasting, documentary, soap, drama)
Language The language used in this script is to help the audience relate to what’s
happening and the characters in the Eastenders. I also believe that the
genre can affect how the language of the script. For example, the genre is
Soap Opera and Drama. I believe that the genre can influence the
language because of how close some of the storylines are in some of the
audiences lives which can further intrigue them about the show. For
example, when Stacy says, “You are coming later, ain’t ya?” the use of the
words ain’t ya is quite a lower-class slang thing to say, which shows you
the type of people the characters in this script are. Normal people, the
masses, working class people.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
For this script you can tell that it was made for a TV show because on the
left-hand side of the pages in the script there are timing so that the show is
able to fit into the designated slot that it needs to be shown in. There is
also page numbers and a title of the name of the show with the episode
number which is only shown on the TV script. These are featured on the
script because its then easier for the people working on the episode to
read/perform.
Three-act script I believe that this script isn’t a three-act script because the script is so
multi-stranded that it’s hard to fit-in so much information in half an hour.
So, the story line of each character gets stretched over a few weeks or
months instead.
Angle of article I believe that the script is aimed at lower to middle class people it relates to
them the most about lifestyle and the troubles that some of these
characters in the script have. I don’t believe that there is a bias of any kind
because the character in the script is all different with different background
etc.
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
nonlinear
I believe that this script is multi-stranded because there is a large cast in
the soap opera and each episode focusses on more than one characters
story. Sometimes the stories don’t even link up together. I also believe that
the script is linear because with each individual character it goes
chronological order of what’s happened to them that episode.
Type
i.e.
fiction
nonfiction
I believe that script for Eastenders is Fictional because none of the
characters are real people and isn’t Documenting their lives, it’s just a
Soap Opera that shows how people might live in East London and what
problems and good will occur.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
RADIO SCRIPT: Radio drama – Damned, Damned, Damned
Type of script: (Choose from: drama, current affairs, news)
Language The language used in this script is so that it can help people who are
listening paint a picture with their minds of what’s happening. The genre of
the script is Drama which can be shown to influence the listeners making
them engaged to the story of the script and make them open to other
Radio script stories. For example, when Mick says, “I AM NOT ANGRY!”
there is an exclamation mark and the sentence is in capital letters
indicating that the person playing Mick would need to raise his voice/
shout. Therefore, how the language is used can get people to show that
the script is a Drama because a Drama involves extreme emotions, which
are being shown here.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
One thing that I noticed about the script layout was that each time there is
dialogue before the name of the character that is supposed to speak there
is numbers labeling on the order of each character speaking for each
page. This is used so that each page is easier to read/ understand the
order of everyone speaking. It’s also like a TV script for when a character
is about to speak their name is in full capital letters. This is used for the
same reason there are numbers. It’s easier for the people working on the
script and Radio show to understand when certain characters are
speaking.
Three-act script I believe that this script is not a three-act script because there is no
beginning, middle and end, there is just the beginning and end, and
nothing really changes in what they are saying that indicate a climax that is
supposed to be in the middle act (2) just like there isn’t much of an
introduction and no specific ending they just end with actions of what’s
happening.
Angle of article I believe that the script is aimed at old democratic of all genders because
they struggle to use a TV and are most of the population who uses Radio.
So that they can enjoy a Drama like someone using the TV but don’t need
to worry or stress about trying to learn how to use a TV. I believe that the
only bias is that the Radio company who owns this script is using people
who can’t use a TV. The script is also not intended for children as the
script is about a group of people struggling in prison and also initiates
swearing.
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
nonlinear
I believe that this script is single – stranded but has multiple people linking
it back to the same main story. For example, the story is mainly about Lee
but involves simple, tiny part of the other friends in the group however it
always links back to Lee and why Lee is so angry. I also believe that the
script is nonlinear because the story as a whole isn’t done in chronological
order and no actual beginning, middle and end. Just the start and the
finish.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
Type
i.e.
fiction
nonfiction
I believe that this script is fictional because it’s not based on true events
it’s a drama that is talking about appreciation if one does something right
and why people (LEE) is angry it’s not based of real live events like a radio
news show would.
VIDEO GAME SCRIPT: Red Dead Redemption
Language There are many genres in the Red Dead Redemption script. The main
ones are: Western, Open world, Action but there are many more. I believe
that these genres can influence the target audience (males between the
ages of 14-35) because it can influence what they think it was like back
when this game is set in, I believe it can also make them feel nostalgic
about there childhood when 9 times out of 10 they would have some
obsession with that time to a certain extent. I believe that the script also
talks the person playing the game and make them feel part of the script
because you get to play as one of the characters your introduced to
(story/lore wise). For example, the when the Man says “Mr. Marston! Over
here! You must be John Marston.” That character is talking to the playable
character/ the main character. This can make the person playing the game
hooked onto the story and feel connected to the character and part of that
Western society, which is one of the genres.
Format & Layout
Conventions specific to this
type of script
There script is layout perfectly as a video game script. For example, every
action that happens in the scrip has square brackets around it and is on a
separate line to everything else (action on a separate line is like a TV and
Movie script), also when a character is about to speak, they have their
name and then a colon to separate the dialogue and to make it easier to
understand which character is talking at this time. There is also the title of
the video game in a design like the one for the branding of the game (only
slightly relatable to a Movie script), and at the beginning before the lore
starts there is a list of each part of the story on the script, which only a
video game script does.
Three-act script I don’t believe that this script is a three-act script (maybe if the script was
longer, it might have been depending on how the story goes) to me the
script just steadily builds up unlike the stereotypical structure of a three-act
script (beginning – build up, middle – climax, end – resolution/ build up
goes decreases).
Angle of article I believe that the script is aimed at males from the ages of 14-35. There
are being targeted because of a few things: the main character is a male
(John Marston), the script is based in the cowboy era (1800) that most
men like the idea of especially if or when they were a child up to a
teenager or young adult. The writers of the screen aren’t necessarily
aiming towards males as a hole however the script just appeals to them
more.
Unit 22: Task One
Understand scripted elements for a range of media products
Style
i.e.
single-stranded
multi-stranded
linear
nonlinear
Overall, I believe that this script is single stranded because is all based on
what happens to John Marson, who is our main character of the story so
far. Even though it makes brief diversions to other people’s conversations
(like Jenny and the preacher and Ms. Bush and the other woman.) its only
does that because its what John Marston is listening to because he is in
the same room at that time in the script. I also believe that this script is
linear because the script has some form of chronological order (beginning,
middle and end).
Type
i.e.
fiction
nonfiction
I believe that this script is fictional because its not based on a true story.
For example, the characters have never been heard before in history of
that time. The only thing that is true history wise of the script is that the
time the script is set in (1800s) things that are happening like what Jenny
talks about what is being created and what they use for transport and the
history of events around this time (Mexican War etc.) it nonfictional.

  • 1. Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products FILM SCRIPT: Bohemian Rhapsody Type of script: (Choose from: UK, European, World Cinema) Language The language in the script shows detailed descriptions of Freddie’s mansion, well-spoken/written. The writers want to entertain and educate the audience about how tragic it was when Freddie died and to educate that even though he was famous, rich and loved by many fans, he was mistreated, ill and lonely for a great deal of his life as well as entertaining them with one of the most well- known bands that have ever walked the Earth. This is like a TV series script and a video game script where the character’s name is in capital letters Three-act script It’s very hard to tell whether this script is a three-act script or not. Angle of article I believe that the scripts focus on how Freddie’s life was and what the media was first saying about him was 100% wrong and that his life was quite hard even though Freddie was rich and famous. It also makes audience that grew up listening to Queen nostalgic. Style i.e. single-stranded multi-stranded linear nonlinear I believe that overall, the scrip is single- stranded. Because the script is about Freddie’s life, and it has other people in it/involves them (like the other band members) however it doesn’t go into depth about only Freddie Mercury. I believe that the Movie script is nonlinear the plot is not in chronological order because the script starts once Freddie dies rather than at the start of his career.
  • 2. Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products Type i.e. fiction nonfiction The script for Bohemian Rhapsody is fictional however is based on the non-fiction that has happened because the script and movie are based off of the real life of Freddie Mercury’s life before and during Queen. For example, it shows event that have happened to the singer. For example, performing at Band Aid, being diagnosed with AIDS and coming out as gay during the 1980s where more people started to come out as gay, but most of the society would treat Homosexuals differently and comparing them as to someone who has a disease (since in that time a lot of the patients diagnosed with AIDS were gay.
  • 3. Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products TV SCRIPT: Eastenders Type of script: (Choose from: news broadcasting, documentary, soap, drama) Language The language used in this script is to help the audience relate to what’s happening and the characters in the Eastenders. I also believe that the genre can affect how the language of the script. For example, the genre is Soap Opera and Drama. I believe that the genre can influence the language because of how close some of the storylines are in some of the audiences lives which can further intrigue them about the show. For example, when Stacy says, “You are coming later, ain’t ya?” the use of the words ain’t ya is quite a lower-class slang thing to say, which shows you the type of people the characters in this script are. Normal people, the masses, working class people. Format & Layout Conventions specific to this type of script For this script you can tell that it was made for a TV show because on the left-hand side of the pages in the script there are timing so that the show is able to fit into the designated slot that it needs to be shown in. There is also page numbers and a title of the name of the show with the episode number which is only shown on the TV script. These are featured on the script because its then easier for the people working on the episode to read/perform. Three-act script I believe that this script isn’t a three-act script because the script is so multi-stranded that it’s hard to fit-in so much information in half an hour. So, the story line of each character gets stretched over a few weeks or months instead. Angle of article I believe that the script is aimed at lower to middle class people it relates to them the most about lifestyle and the troubles that some of these characters in the script have. I don’t believe that there is a bias of any kind because the character in the script is all different with different background etc. Style i.e. single-stranded multi-stranded linear nonlinear I believe that this script is multi-stranded because there is a large cast in the soap opera and each episode focusses on more than one characters story. Sometimes the stories don’t even link up together. I also believe that the script is linear because with each individual character it goes chronological order of what’s happened to them that episode. Type i.e. fiction nonfiction I believe that script for Eastenders is Fictional because none of the characters are real people and isn’t Documenting their lives, it’s just a Soap Opera that shows how people might live in East London and what problems and good will occur.
  • 4. Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products RADIO SCRIPT: Radio drama – Damned, Damned, Damned Type of script: (Choose from: drama, current affairs, news) Language The language used in this script is so that it can help people who are listening paint a picture with their minds of what’s happening. The genre of the script is Drama which can be shown to influence the listeners making them engaged to the story of the script and make them open to other Radio script stories. For example, when Mick says, “I AM NOT ANGRY!” there is an exclamation mark and the sentence is in capital letters indicating that the person playing Mick would need to raise his voice/ shout. Therefore, how the language is used can get people to show that the script is a Drama because a Drama involves extreme emotions, which are being shown here. Format & Layout Conventions specific to this type of script One thing that I noticed about the script layout was that each time there is dialogue before the name of the character that is supposed to speak there is numbers labeling on the order of each character speaking for each page. This is used so that each page is easier to read/ understand the order of everyone speaking. It’s also like a TV script for when a character is about to speak their name is in full capital letters. This is used for the same reason there are numbers. It’s easier for the people working on the script and Radio show to understand when certain characters are speaking. Three-act script I believe that this script is not a three-act script because there is no beginning, middle and end, there is just the beginning and end, and nothing really changes in what they are saying that indicate a climax that is supposed to be in the middle act (2) just like there isn’t much of an introduction and no specific ending they just end with actions of what’s happening. Angle of article I believe that the script is aimed at old democratic of all genders because they struggle to use a TV and are most of the population who uses Radio. So that they can enjoy a Drama like someone using the TV but don’t need to worry or stress about trying to learn how to use a TV. I believe that the only bias is that the Radio company who owns this script is using people who can’t use a TV. The script is also not intended for children as the script is about a group of people struggling in prison and also initiates swearing. Style i.e. single-stranded multi-stranded linear nonlinear I believe that this script is single – stranded but has multiple people linking it back to the same main story. For example, the story is mainly about Lee but involves simple, tiny part of the other friends in the group however it always links back to Lee and why Lee is so angry. I also believe that the script is nonlinear because the story as a whole isn’t done in chronological order and no actual beginning, middle and end. Just the start and the finish.
  • 5. Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products Type i.e. fiction nonfiction I believe that this script is fictional because it’s not based on true events it’s a drama that is talking about appreciation if one does something right and why people (LEE) is angry it’s not based of real live events like a radio news show would. VIDEO GAME SCRIPT: Red Dead Redemption Language There are many genres in the Red Dead Redemption script. The main ones are: Western, Open world, Action but there are many more. I believe that these genres can influence the target audience (males between the ages of 14-35) because it can influence what they think it was like back when this game is set in, I believe it can also make them feel nostalgic about there childhood when 9 times out of 10 they would have some obsession with that time to a certain extent. I believe that the script also talks the person playing the game and make them feel part of the script because you get to play as one of the characters your introduced to (story/lore wise). For example, the when the Man says “Mr. Marston! Over here! You must be John Marston.” That character is talking to the playable character/ the main character. This can make the person playing the game hooked onto the story and feel connected to the character and part of that Western society, which is one of the genres. Format & Layout Conventions specific to this type of script There script is layout perfectly as a video game script. For example, every action that happens in the scrip has square brackets around it and is on a separate line to everything else (action on a separate line is like a TV and Movie script), also when a character is about to speak, they have their name and then a colon to separate the dialogue and to make it easier to understand which character is talking at this time. There is also the title of the video game in a design like the one for the branding of the game (only slightly relatable to a Movie script), and at the beginning before the lore starts there is a list of each part of the story on the script, which only a video game script does. Three-act script I don’t believe that this script is a three-act script (maybe if the script was longer, it might have been depending on how the story goes) to me the script just steadily builds up unlike the stereotypical structure of a three-act script (beginning – build up, middle – climax, end – resolution/ build up goes decreases). Angle of article I believe that the script is aimed at males from the ages of 14-35. There are being targeted because of a few things: the main character is a male (John Marston), the script is based in the cowboy era (1800) that most men like the idea of especially if or when they were a child up to a teenager or young adult. The writers of the screen aren’t necessarily aiming towards males as a hole however the script just appeals to them more.
  • 6. Unit 22: Task One Understand scripted elements for a range of media products Style i.e. single-stranded multi-stranded linear nonlinear Overall, I believe that this script is single stranded because is all based on what happens to John Marson, who is our main character of the story so far. Even though it makes brief diversions to other people’s conversations (like Jenny and the preacher and Ms. Bush and the other woman.) its only does that because its what John Marston is listening to because he is in the same room at that time in the script. I also believe that this script is linear because the script has some form of chronological order (beginning, middle and end). Type i.e. fiction nonfiction I believe that this script is fictional because its not based on a true story. For example, the characters have never been heard before in history of that time. The only thing that is true history wise of the script is that the time the script is set in (1800s) things that are happening like what Jenny talks about what is being created and what they use for transport and the history of events around this time (Mexican War etc.) it nonfictional.
