The document outlines plans for three movie posters promoting the film "Signing Off". The first poster will show the main characters sitting in a circle around an Ouija board. The second poster will feature shadows on a wallpaper, and the third will show an Ouija board and the antagonist's feet. All posters will use dark colors and fonts to match horror genre conventions. Key settings and objects will be featured to hint at the plot without revealing too much.

DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT (ELEMENTS FEATURED)
The plot elements that I will feature in the first poster will be the group of six sitting in a circle in a
circle around the Ouija Board which you will not be able to see because the group will be in the
way. I will feature this element in one of my posters because it slightly gives away a key thing the
group must do (which is to sign off the Ouija Board and they need to do what they do in the poster
to do that.)
Another plot element that I will feature in my first poster will be the dated living room of Jenny’s
Grandmas house. I will do this because the living room is one of the main sets for the scenes of the
movie. For example, they are in the living room when the first use the Ouija Board and thy are in
their when the survivors Sign Off of the Ouija Board therefore showing its significances for the
plot.
A plot element that I will feature for my second poster is wallpaper of the Jenny’s Grandmas living
room. This like the past reason for showing the room is so that it shows the significance of that
room and that key scenes take place in that room like when the group of 6 first use the Ouija Board
and when the survivors use it to sign off the Board and the send away the spirits who are trying to
kill them.
Another plot element that will be featured in my second poster will be the shadows of the spirits.
This will be featured to show what the group are facing and to give away that the Movie is to do
with the supernatural.
One plot element that I will feature for my final poster will be an image of a Ouija Board. This is
because the Ouija Board is the most significant object in the whole story because it is the thing that
release the spirits are what the group use to send them away making it have a lot of value throughout
the story.
Finally, another plot element that I will feature on my final poster will be the feet and bottom legs
of the main spirits Bill. I will do this because it again shows who the group are up against and to
show that he is the main spirits since he is the only non-shadow spirit after them without showing
to much of him meaning not too much is given away.
OUTLINE OF STYLE
For my first poster it shall be a POV shot which is looking through a spy hole on a door (front
door to Jenny’s Grandmas house) onto the living room where the main character will be sat in a
circle around the Ouija Board. In the background of this you will be able to see key features like
the dated patterned wallpaper and the old-fashioned yellow sofas, the oak coffee table, and the
windows where you will be able to see that its late at night during the movie. I am showing the
lounge while pointing out what specifically will be in there so that the audience can recognize the
room at a later time. This will also show that the living room is a key place where important
scenes happen. For example, when the group of six first and last use the Ouija Board. The colour
scheme for this poster shall be dark blues to light-ish blues, black white and the shades between
them and dark browns to quite light brown to a faded green and red to a tiny bit of yellow. I have
chosen this colour scheme because the different shades of blue fit into the Paranormal Horror look
2. with the use of black white and the shade in between to enhance the genre as Horror. Finally, the
yellow green and red is so that the audience recognize the key feature into room that they will use
to tell where the characters are. For example, yellow for the sofas, green browns and red for the
wallpaper and oak coffee table. The billing block shall be at the bottom of the poster with the
release date just above it. The title shall be at the top of the poster.
For my second poster it shall be a middle shot which has a 45-degree tilt to the right of the
wallpaper which will have two shadows on the wall. The colour scheme for this poster shall be o
mainly reds to brownish black. I have done this so that the wallpaper matches the one in the first
poster to show the significance of where main things in the plot happen and to also show the
problem that the group of six face without giving to much away about the plot. This is also so that
the audience recognizes the wallpaper and so is familiar with the environment and that it’s the
main setting. The billing block shall be at the bottom of the poster. The shadows help the
Theatrical poster fit into the codes and conventions of a Paranormal Horror poster because it adds
a layer of mystery and caution about the shadow figures that are on the poster this also shows that
whatever they are they are not normal or as least not human. The title will be just above the
billing block and the release date will be at the top of the poster.
For my third and final poster it shall be a shot taken from the wooden floorboards looking forward
to see the Ouija Board at a 45-degree angle facing upwards and to also see a pair of feet which
will be the feet of the main spirits/ antagonist Bill. I have decided to have these images because it
shall add to fitting into the codes and conventions of the brief because the lighting for those shots
is going to have the effect of being in candlelight which adds tension and eeriness, which are
features of the Paranormal Horror movie genre. The title shall be on the face of the Ouija Board,
the billing block shall be at the bottom and the release date shall be just above the billing block.
All the text shall be in white apart from the title for the third poster so that the key information is
easy to see for the possible audience. The title for the third poster will be in black because it will
be on the face of the Ouija Board to match the normal writing on a Ouija Board. All the titles
shall be in the font IFC Los Banditos to match the writing on a normal Ouija Board. All the
release dates shall be in the font Daytona to make it the thing seen before the billing block and
after the title which will make it the second most important piece of information on the poster.
Finally, all the billing blocks will be in the font Agency FB so that it matches the standards and
guidelines of normal billing blocks.
IMAGE LIST & BRIEF DESCRIPTION
For my first poster I am using a POV shot looking through the spy hole (which is one the front
door of Jenny’s grandma’s house) onto the living room where you will see the group of six will be
sat around the Ouija Board. I have chosen this shot because I feel like it makes the audience able
to view the plot story while creating the effect that links to the end of the movie when no one
outside the group knows about the Ouija Board and that if they told anyone about, they would not
be believed. Making the audience feel like they are not ruining the story while looking through
the spy hole. It also can keep that area of mystery about what the group are up to until they see the
movie.
For my second poster I will have a middle shot that is tilted 45 degrees to the right viewing the
wallpaper and the shadow spirits on the wall. I decided to have a tilt which is 45 degrees to the
right because it adds a layer of tension because the shot isn’t centralised or symmetrical, which
can further add tension build up when viewing this poster which makes the poster therefore fit the
codes and conventions of the brief. I will do this because it makes us focus on two things. The
shadow spirits which show what the group ae facing and shows it is a Paranormal Horror movie,
and the wallpaper which is the same wallpaper in the living room which shows is significance as
3. the main room in jenny grandma’s house that is used for important scene and that the audience
should be familiar with it.
Finally for my final poster shall be a shot from the floor like a foot shot. Which will have the
Ouija Board in the shot with the main spirits (bill) feet. I have chosen the to have the image of
Bills lower body because it signifies Bill and a key part of the plot since he is the main antagonist,
this will help the audience to remember Bills lower body making him more recognisable when the
audience watch the movie. I have also chosen this shot because it shows the significance of the
Ouija Board and who the main antagonist is without giving to much away which makes the
audience feel like it’s a teaser for them.
FONT LIST & BRIEF DESCRIPTION
All the writing in all the posters (except for the title in the third poster) shall be in white. This is
so that the important information like the name of the movie, the release date and people who will
be acting in the movie (which will be in the billing block) are easily visible. The Title for the third
poster shall be in black because it will go onto the front of the Ouija Board, so the writing
matches the writing on a normal Ouija Board as much as possible. All Titles shall be in the IFC
Los Banditos font. This is again so that the title matches the writing found on a normal Ouija
Board which will further link into the Paranormal Horror sub-genre. The release date will be in
the font Daytona so that it stands out more than the billing block but less than the title so that is
the second most important piece of information on the poster. Finally, the billing block shall be in
the font Agency FB so that it fits into the standard of billing blocks and so you will easily be able
to recognize the section as the area where the actors are listed.
HOW THE POSTERS WILL APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE
There are quite a few features in my movie that will attract the target audience which is late teens
to early 30s. For example, all of the main character (in the group of 6) are between the ages of 16-
17., this will attract the younger years of the target audience because they are close in age with
them so that they will relate to them more with similar things that are involved in the story. For
example, when Stacy talks about using the Ouija Board to get Halloween pictures for social
media. However, the group also resemble the stereotypical group in a horror movie. For example,
Jenny is our protagonist and main individual character, Stacy is the popular bimbo who is also
coupled up with Gavin, Gavin is also the best friend and sidekick of Brad who agrees with
everything Brad says, Brad is the dumb jock, Kate is the nerd who is also the twin sister of Chris
who is the horrible one who hates everyone. This stereotypical group resemblance shall attract the
older years of the target audience because they are used so that format of characters because they
are use to that when growing up on horror movies from the 80s and 90s. I also believe that
paranormal horror movies are normally targeted at early 20s to early 30s which makes my way of
attracting the ages to be more successful as a whole. For the poster that shows the group of 6 in
(Teaser) I have also decided to make each character have therefore own costume making them
more recognisable and clearly showing what stereotype each character is. For example, the model
who will be Brad shall wear the same or a very similar costume to what the character is wearing
in the script, like a white t-shirt, red and white base ball jacket, light blue skinny jeans and white
trainers. This is similar to the poster that I researched which is for the movie The Exorcist where
the main character wears a suit/trench coat to fit into that stereotype of a mysterious man.
For my Theatrical poster the theme of the poster as a whole will appear to the target audience. For
example, the feeling of this poster and the tension from the tilted shot with the effect of
candlelight with the striking white font for each piece of text will not appeal to audiences that are
older than early 30s because people are too mature then to be scared by a Paranormal Horror
movie. This will appeal to the target audience of late teens to early 30s because they are also
4. growing up more with this genre and being at this level of horror. For example, the effect of a
tilted shot and the tension that will come with that wouldn’t be felt with audiences that are more
mature or older than the target audience.
There is a few things that will feature on my Landscape poster that will help appeal to the
audience. For example, the effect that shall be on the main antagonist Bill will not only show the
different viewers that Bill is not a normal human being, but it will also attract the target audience
because a Paranormal Horror is more there generation. For example, people who are older than
early 30s grew up on Horror movies that aren’t part of the Paranormal sub-genre therefore not
attracting them as much because its completely out of there comfort zone.
MARKETING - HOW & WHERE THE POSTERS WILL BE ADVERTISED
All my posters will be shown on social media website like Instagram, this is because all ages of
the target audience use Instagram since it’s the most popular social media app today. It will also
be shown in locations like outside a cinema, on a billboard and even around town to attract the
adults that are part of the target audience since they are more likely to drive and encounter these
places unlike the younger ages of the target audience which are more likely to see it via social
media and the internet because they don’t go outside as much anymore. Film magazines will also
show the posters so that adults of the target audience and even people who are older than the
target audience (older than early 30s) to view the posters and to possibly feel inclined to go and
see the movie when its released. I will also use another social media app like Tik Tok because that
will attract and get more of the younger ages of the target audience (late teens – 23 years old ) to
see the posters and be attracted to the movie to then go and watch it when it comes out.
POSITION IN THE MARKETPLACE
One poster I researched was for the Horror movie The exorcist. This movie and my script are both
Paranormal Horrors and both have a similar layout to the first poster idea. They are done with a similar
layout. For example, the Titles are both at the top of the poster. They both have a main image that are
similar colours to my poster idea. They main colours that are used in the title are different. The Exorcist
poster is purple which can symbolise mystery and supernatural. Whereas mine is to resemble a significant
thing in the story (writing on a Ouija Board)
Another poster that I researched was the horror movie Arachnophobia. Both movies are again part of the
same genre however Signing off is a Paranormal sub-genre and Arachnophobia is part of the natural
horror sub-genre. However, a key similarity between the two posters is that the main image contains a key
place or where the place of action mainly is. For example, in the Arachnophobia poster that place is a
Rural village and a house in the Rural area. The poster for Signing Off has a main image inside Jenny’s
Grandmas house which is where most of the story happens. A key difference between the two is that the
layout of the poster for Arachnophobia is slightly different for example with my poster the title is at the top
of the poster making it one of the first things (after of even slightly before the main image) however for the
Arachnophobia the Title is lower down making the reviews the first thing you see showing that it supposed
to be a good movie.
The final poster that I researched was for the Horror movie Friday the 13th. Again, both posters are for
Horror movies. However, Friday the 13th is part of the slasher sub-genre and signing off is part of the
Paranormal Horror. However, the design of one of the original posters is extremely like the idea of mine.
For example, the main image in the Friday the 13th poster the image of the forest and the victims are
inside a shape. The shape is Jason the killer. For mine, the image will be inside a circle t resemble or
5. because it will be from the view of looking through a spy whole. Only difference is the shape and that mine
(if the camera actually looking through the whole does not work) will have a slight fade around it.
Overall, I believe that my poster for Signing Off will fit into the genre posters because they all have the
same idea of using darker colours with the image standing out to be one of the first things you see.
